I've never went into labour naturally so don't know "the signs" but know not everyone gets them.

I've heard things like increased stringy discharge, bump dropping, extra or less energy, increased appetite, crazy nesting etc in the 24-48 hours before

Both times back ache in waves for hours on end. Then my waters went on the toilet both times with a clearing out, so to speak.

Lib3rtine · 14/01/2021 09:28

following this eagerly! I'm 39+1 today and desperate for something to happen!!

BiddyPop · 14/01/2021 09:39

A need to walk - even though I had to give up the waffle halfway down the pier and rest before we returned.

A need to stay standing - getting very frustrated when lots of DAunts were trying to
Make me sit and chat in the sitting room
Rather than make gravy stirring at the stove... I couldn't say why even to
Myself but I needed to be up.

An ability to eat second helpings!! After a few weeks of no room
For much food. (Although that later proved a hindrance as I spent a couple of hours on the ward throwing up Christmas dinner in the middle of the night).

A number of visits to the loo in the course of a couple
Of hours, clearing out.

Pains started (gently at first) as dinner finished, plug only went in shower in hospital and waters when in labour room.

@Lib3rtine you are a few weeks ahead of me! I've had backache on and off for days, really deep ache, plus today my discharge has went mucus string like. So while I'm not getting my hopes up I am getting my fingers crossed that these are signs baby is atleast getting in position for due date lol

BiddyPop · 14/01/2021 09:40

That was meant to be waddle down the pier - on phone...

Shmithecat2 · 14/01/2021 09:40

None, other than waters breaking at 1am. DS was born 13 hours later.

Lib3rtine · 14/01/2021 11:59

@OnNaturesCourse I've been getting increased Braxton Hicks but thats about it! had a sweep yesterday and got a Bishops score of 4 so don't think anything is imminent but I'm not sure how quick things can change. She said my body is gearing up for it and if I've not had it by next week, my next sweep should be successful. I'm so impatient!!

OnNaturesCourse · 14/01/2021 12:05

Yes, you do get to that stage of just wanting it done with!

With my first I was induced at 37 weeks due to reduced movements but when I went in I was already starting to dilate and have contractions but wasn't feeling them, and hadn't noticed any other signs. They induced me anyway just to hurry things along.

A less common one that I always seem to have- this being my 5th- is really really emotional/teary either the day before or same day lol!!

Lib3rtine · 14/01/2021 12:10

@OnNaturesCourse I just can't imagine anything starting to happen, it just seems like I will be pregnant forever! I'm working my way through all the old wives tales Grin

peachypetite · 14/01/2021 16:19

I didn’t get any! My waters broke all of a sudden with a massive gush.

thenorthernluce · 14/01/2021 16:24

From memory, it was different discharge, a bloody show, cramps like period pains for 24hrs, then my waters broke as I was getting into bed at 11pm. Went to hospital, baby born 21hrs later!

RuthW · 14/01/2021 16:30

My waters broke

OnNaturesCourse · 14/01/2021 16:49

I had cramps earlier which have cleared up thankfully. But I've got the most awful backache now and the discharge is still horrible, I can actually feel when it comes away.

I’ve heard lots but not had anything so far, only 38+1 so still time but baby’s head isn’t even engaged yet. Second baby so I know it can take a while, induced with first after waters breaking and no contractions. I was sure with this one I was going to go before due date but I don’t seem anywhere near anything yet

MsSquiz · 14/01/2021 17:07

For me, I woke up with contractions at 6am! No waters breaking (they were broken for me in hospital) & no show. Just contractions starting off like period cramp and by 11am were unbearable!
I was in hospital at 12 noon and gave birth at 2am!

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 14/01/2021 17:33

Contractions.

In the run up i would get cramps when i went for a walk that would stop soon after - not sure if that was labour related or me nit picking because you watch out for every twinge!

I went into labour that night and during the day id had a sweep and had zero cramps (the first sweep made me cramp and i was sure i was going into labour) and all i did was nap all day (and cry that i was still only 1cm Grin)

OnNaturesCourse · 14/01/2021 18:20

Well after a eventful day of "I wonder" baby boy seems to have moved out my pelvis again and is back pushing my ribs out lol

Still loads of back ache tho so bath and early night I think

Following! I'm 39 weeks today, had some period type cramps, back ache and shooting pains in my cervix, plus pressure in my bum.. Really hoping it means something, fed up and I'm not even overdue yet!

sparklesloth · 14/01/2021 18:58

Nothing but contractions both times. The first time I had painful contractions for 3 days before finally being in active labour, it was torture. The second time I had braxton hicks for WEEKS, never painful though. I was 11 days late, fed up and mentally preparing for induction. Couldn't sleep so thought I'd time my contractions just for the hell of it. I was shocked as they were 2 mins apart and eventually started getting painful. 3 hours later went into hospital.

I lost my plug both times a couple of days before too.

RosaBaby2 · 14/01/2021 19:02

Nothing at all until light contractions started early morning when I woke up.

OnNaturesCourse · 14/01/2021 20:44

It's pretty awesome seeing how different everyone's signs are ❤️

Following as 39 weeks tomorrow with DC2 and I’ve never gone into labour naturally. Feeling even more irritable and emotional the past couple of days along with some mild period cramps and back ach but not sure if that means anything at all. Can’t wait to meet this little one now ❤️

SassyPants87 · 14/01/2021 23:22

I had on and off period type pains for about 2 weeks. My mucus plug also started to come away 2 weeks prior. And then my waters broke (it gushed out) and then contractions started a few hours later

BuffaloCauliflower · 14/01/2021 23:27

Had backache on the Sunday evening. That was it pretty much. Monday I felt like staying in bed and doing nothing. Evening my waters broke, a trickle down the leg, and then my contractions just went for it and I was up to three 90 second contractions every 10 minutes within two hours. No run up at all. He still wasn’t born for 30 hours though! But it was a very positive labour and it hurt less than I’d expected being so sudden and he was back to back (TENS machine was an absolute godsend)
