Covid 19 whilst pregnant

I'm currently feeling unwell and have booked a covid test for tomorrow morning. I just wondered what other pregnant ladies who tested positive for covid during their pregnancies, what there symptoms were? I have a fever but normal temp, achey all over especially my arms, nausea, headache and extremely tired. 36 weeks.

My daughter had a sore throat and headaches for about four days and then lost her sense of smell/taste. She booked a test the following day and was positive. She gradually got more aches and pains the following week and had a couple of days in bed. She developed a cough and felt a little breathless.

She attended triage the day before she gave birth as she thought she was in labour. She was monitored for half an hour and had four contractions recorded in that time. She was sent home and told that it was unlikely that she'd give birth in the next two weeks.

Her local midwife sent her back to hospital the next day - midwives administered drugs to stop the contractions but baby was born at midday - 10 days after testing positive (about two weeks from her sore throat starting).

Midwives said it was due to the virus and would she take part in research on corona virus in the third trimester.

My daughter tested negative on the day she gave birth and the baby tested negative also.

Baby was given drugs for a sepsis protocol as was 'grunting' shortly after birth. Baby is now just over 8 weeks old (was due 5th Jan). Both mum and baby doing well.

Pity the midwives/consultant didn't take her seriously the day before - perhaps they could've allowed baby to 'cook' a little more.

Hi Op,
I posted on a few threads here about two weeks ago. I’m pregnant 20+ weeks. Tested positive prior to Christmas (routine test health care worker). No other underlying risk factors. Remained asymptomatic and well. Baba doing ok. Hope you’re journey isn’t too scary xx

I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant with covid. My first symptoms were a sore throat and cough, I don't think I had a fever at any point though. I am now at the tail end of things and I am tired and very breathless. My resting heart rate has dropped from 84bpm to 66bpm so I am not very hopeful for my pregnancy now sadly

AR52 · 07/01/2021 14:42

I'm 19 weeks pregnant and tested positive on Monday. My symptoms started on Saturday with a banging headache which I put down to pregnancy and then I started to get a sore throat and lost my taste.

Indigo89 · 07/01/2021 20:35

32 weeks and tested positive 4 days ago.
Chesty cough and tiredness but no other symptoms- no temp, no loss of taste or smell.

Wherethereshope · 07/01/2021 21:07

@fairyannie this is really interesting, Thank you. Could I ask how far pregnant your daughter was.

The main risk I can see is that from 28 weeks we are more at risk of preterm labour if we have covid, which would fit with your daughters experience. Glad they're doing well.

fairyannie · 07/01/2021 21:56

Yes - the risk is blood clots as well, which can impact mum and baby. She was given a 10 day course of blood thinning injections when she tested positive. She had to have another 42 days of injections after the birth.

She was 31wks and 6 days - she had him two weeks after her first symptoms.

He (baby) was weighed today by the neonatal outreach nurse - he's just doubled his birth weight (EBF).

Oh and she was told to keep breastfeeding for at least 6 months in order for baby to get full benefit of antibodies.

Out of interest do any of you wear a heart rate fitness monitor like a fitbit? Pre-covid my pregnant resting heart rate was around 76-78bpm. It spiked to 84bpm when I was first ill and in the 10 days since has dropped dramatically to 64bpm. I am only 7 weeks so a bit worried I've suffered a missed miscarriage

star1459 · 08/01/2021 07:54

Hi, I'm 25 weeks and tested positive just before Xmas (partner is a teacher and got it a few days before me so I think got from school)
We were both extremely lucky in that the worst parts for us only lasted 2-3 days and I would. Impart it to the flu. But not the worst flu I've ever had.
Achy, chills and fatigue. I was concerned over my temperature but it never actually went over 39. Maybe as I was so concerned and taking paracetamol every 4-6 hours though.
After 2-3 days we both felt quickly very fine but our sense of smell disappeared for around 10 days.

The testing site by us (south Birmingham) was a walk through one and I couldn't fault, very quick and efficient.

star1459 · 08/01/2021 07:55

That's meant to say *compare it to the flu. Not impart

novastar7603 · 08/01/2021 10:19

Had my test yesterday morning so hoping to find out today. Day 4 of feeling unwell, I mainly get a fever, fatigue, nausea, achey arms - paracetamol makes me feel so much better. Today I'm getting a pain behind my eyes and my legs really ache. Chest is feeling tight too. My partner who I live with has 0 symptoms except sneezing a bit but don't think that is one?

I'm getting my test today. I've been coughing non stop. Husband just had sore throat. He thinks we might be victims of colds but it's worth getting check right :S

Mimiwish · 08/01/2021 10:33

@novastar7603 - the other day a midwife at the hospital I am giving birth at told me she had no other symptoms when she had it except for sneezing, so your partner may be displaying in this way.

Good luck - wishing you a really swift recovery. I'm nearly 38 wks and scared of Covid, but heartened to hear the majority of experiences with it during pregnancy turn out okay.

@SS123456 - wishing you and baby well... I don't have any experience with this personally, but the other day I was told that your heart rate rises prior to an infection (I'm keeping an eye on mine for another reason)... not sure about dropping? Have you got any pregnancy test strips left? Hope all is well for you.

SS123456 · 08/01/2021 10:59

Thank you @Mimiwish. I took a frer and IC this morning and they both look strong but I just don't know. I am on progesterone following a previous miscarriage so I think that would maybe prolong the pregnancy and symptoms that come with it 🤷🏻‍♀️. I have booked a scan for Tuesday when I am out of isolation so I at least have answers either way but I'm petrified already

@SS123456 wishing you all the luck. I've never heard of a slower heart rate meaning anything more than being healthy so fingers crossed you're reading into this too much and all is well. When I had a chemical pregnancy, the lines faded pretty fast, so hopefully this is all good... Good luck!

Teakind · 08/01/2021 13:00

@SS123456 hi OP, because you gave Covid are you sitting down and resting more? If so, that will reduce your resting heart rate. When I was pregnant with my DD I'd get terrified every time it went down but realised it went down when I had my feet up. I took it off in the end!

Sitchervice · 08/01/2021 14:00

@SS123456
My normal resting heart rate is 63 - 62 beats and I'm 17 weeks pregnant. I wouldn't go off of your heartbeats to tell if your still pregnant or not.

SS123456 · 08/01/2021 14:27

Thank you @Mimiwish 😊

@Teakind I am definitely resting more as I am very short of breath. We are still in isolation so can't leave the house either so there isn't all that much moving going on

@Sitchervice thank you that is reassuring to know! My resting rate has dropped 20bpm in 10 days which feels like a lot but hopefully it's just my body adjusting to pregnancy. Did yours rise initially and then drop back down?

Sitchervice · 09/01/2021 11:49

@SS123456 so I fell pregnant in September. Back then it was between 60-63 I was probably fitter back then as well. Highest it got at resting was 66 on 4th 6th and 9th of December but otherwise it was between 63 and 64. (I have a fit bit) December was a stressful time for me as I was told my baby might have chromosome changes.

So I wouldn't say it rose mutch. Your resting heartbeat can be changed by loads and loads of external factors including diet.

bleachblondemom · 09/01/2021 12:10

I had it at 38 weeks and just felt like a bad cold. Bit of a headache, felt tired, similar to what you said. My chest did feel really tight for a couple of days though. I had none of the main 3 symptoms though. I was still testing positive when I gave birth at 42 weeks even though I’d felt 100% fine for weeks. Baby was born negative. No idea whether it means baby has antibodies (I’m not breast feeding).

Snackz · 09/01/2021 14:39

I've not had Covid but I hope everything is okay x

Hardcoresoftie · 10/01/2021 01:20

Resting heart rate varies. Mine was within that range at 7 weeks with breathing difficulties. Pulse oxygen is more important. Can you get it measured or buy a fingertip pulse ox counter yourself? You could be supplemented with oxygen.

Sorry the above was a response to SS123456
Onestep2021 · 10/01/2021 01:28

Hi OP.
I hope you are feeling better.
Do you know what it will mean if you test positive when you go into hospital?
Do they have to isolate you and baby?

PFin · 10/01/2021 07:00

I have has covid twice during this pregnancy. I am a key worker and work with high volume of people. First time round I was around 8 weeks and i currently have it now and im 24 weeks. My symptoms both times have been mainly a cold like feeling, chills, bodyaches, headaches and tiredness. It didnt happen first time round but this time i cant smell or taste a thing. Overall hasnt been too bad tho, ive felt worse with bad colds and infected sinus. How was your test results?
