Did you tell your OH before you took a pregnancy test?

Just the above really!

Did you tell your OH before you took a pregnancy test? So he was there with you as the result appeared?

...or did you do the test alone, and reveal to him in a nice way after?

I did it alone but it was morning before work so showed him the result a few mins after I found out.

unmarkedbythat · 06/11/2020 10:44

Ds1, yes, ds2, no, ds3, yes. Ds3 was very unplanned and I didn't tell him the result was positive for hours afterwards as I knew he would be very unhappy about it. Ds2 we had been TTC for a year and I was sick of telling him I was going to test and then having to say it was a BFN so just did it without announcing I was going to.

nettytree · 06/11/2020 10:49

No. I was away in Cornwall for the weekend. Told her first. Didn't tell hubby til I got back 2 days later.

helloxhristmas · 06/11/2020 10:52

No

PriceEmUp · 06/11/2020 10:56

For the first 6 months yes, every time. When it was way to early to way to late 🤣

Then one day I was about to get in the bath, 9 days before my period was due and we hadn’t really DTD much that month as I came down with bad case of tonsillitis and a hospital stay. - I decided to wee on the last test I had in the cupboard and promise myself not to take another until my period didn’t show up.

Well a line showed up, 9 days before period was due. I was in the bath when I read the results and just couldn’t believe it 🙈 OH is a dick though and said he couldn’t see anything when it was blatantly there 🤣 DD is now 10 months

BabyMoonPie · 06/11/2020 10:59

I told DH a couple of times when I thought i was late due to irregular cycles and got negative tests. The month I got my positive I had given up hope (trying for 8 months) and got my dates mixed up. Realised I was quite a few days late but didn't want to test and be disappointed. DH was out for the evening and I couldn't get it out of my head I might be pregnant so I tested and got the strongest positive immediately on a test where you get a result of - or +. Didn't believe it so went to the supermarket and bought a test that had words which confirmed it. Put both tests in a sandwich bag and gave them to DH when he got in!

waterthedog · 06/11/2020 11:18

No for both of mine. DC1 was a surprise, I had been feeling sick and pregnancy was last thing on my mind until a friend suggested it. I thought it was sooo unlikely but took a test anyway, I couldn't believe it. DC2 we had only just decided to try for number 2, so took one assuming would be -ve.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 06/11/2020 11:21

I took one on my own because I was pretty sure it was negative (it was).
But then when I was more sure I might actually be pregnant he was there when I did it so we saw the result together.

SockQueen · 06/11/2020 11:44

A couple of times, but we were TTC 18 months-ish before getting a positive, so I stopped fairly soon.

Summerstorms · 06/11/2020 11:46

No, because I didn't want to get his hopes up

bubblesforlife · 06/11/2020 11:47

We were trying to conceive. So we planned a specific date to test together and stuck to it.
It was lovely to find out together.

RainbowCookie · 06/11/2020 11:48

No as I honestly think he wouldn’t have been interested beforehand, he was a bit non committal afterwards as well, but is a brilliant Dad. I think sometimes guys need something tangible to get excited about.

SpeckledyHen · 06/11/2020 11:48

We did it together on both occasions.

DisgruntledPelican · 06/11/2020 11:52

I did one alone because I was panicking. I then composed myself for a couple of hours before telling DP I thought I might be pregnant and we then did one together.

I’ve never told him I’d already done one. And in a way I was so flabbergasted by the first one that it was just as surprising that the second one was also positive.

annlee3817 · 06/11/2020 11:53

No, I took the test and emailed him the result at work 🙈 he didn't know I was taking one, but knew it was a possibility we might be

PurBal · 06/11/2020 12:04

No, I didn't. But I wish I had. AF was due and I was convinced I'd missed the fertile window as the ovulation date according to the app was 6 days after DTD. I thought I had wanted to do a nice "reveal" but I totally freaked out and it was a horrible experience for DH.

Piccalily19 · 06/11/2020 12:14

We had started TTC but it was only month 1 so I didn’t say anything and showed him the test! It was really nice to show him but I get the appeal of doing it together too!
I just thought that if we ever get married he’ll know about the proposal before I do so I wanted to know about a baby before he did 🤣

Skyla01 · 06/11/2020 12:16

We were trying for 13 months before BFP. I took the test on my own. I was several days late but too scared to test and I didn't want to tell OH and gets his hopes up too. Told OH a few minutes after taking the test. No special announcement- after over a year of trying just having a bfp was enough!

firesong · 06/11/2020 12:17

No. I did it alone with all of my pregnancies. It's the sort of thing I like to do by myself.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 06/11/2020 12:19

For my 1st yes.
2nd no, my friend made me take one as I suddenly wanted to eat balloons whilst out shopping with her. She bought me a test. No missed period so I only took it to humour her. I was quite drunk too sooo suddenly felt guilty.
3rd yes. But I was sure it was negative as Drs said I couldn't have anymore and was 4 days off going through a clinical menopause.

sarahc336 · 06/11/2020 12:31

Dd1 yes as I was 5 days late and we weren't ttc so we did it together as he knew I was late and I was convinced I wouldn't be pregnant but when we were ttc I did them without telling him as I knew he'd think I was mad 😂😂 x

SunnySideUp2020 · 06/11/2020 12:47

We had agreed to do it with FMU so took it in the bathroom alone very early morning he was in the bed next door and was waiting for me to tell him the result after a few minutes. It was the day of our anniversary.
We had been trying for 7 months...
He went on to propose right after and it was the most emotional day for both of us 😊

Wishing56 · 06/11/2020 13:10

Nope. I got in from work and randomly decided to take one. It wasn't until a line started showing that I shouted for him to get up the stairs. So no nice reveal either. I then took 3 more tests to make sure which he was there for the results (another cheapie, a FRER and a CB digital)

AegonT · 06/11/2020 13:20

No.

Dyra · 06/11/2020 13:34

Alone both times.

First time DH was at work, while it was my day off. We'd been trying for around 2 years by then. I had zero regular periods, and had sore boobs. Quick Google said it could be. A quick test said it was. I couldn't wait to tell him, so phoned him up.

Second time, we both had the day off. I'd been given Clomid, had a scan that showed two ripe follicles, and DTD as much as we could. I had the same sore boob feeling again, though wasn't late yet. Took a test just to check, and lo and behold a second line. I excitedly called DH in to look, but he was pretty gormless, and couldn't work out why I was excited about two lines. Had to spell it out in the end.
