Only 9.6 weeks and wearing maternity clothes already

Is this early? Maybe I’m expecting twins? 🤣 It’s just my trousers really that are not comfortable any more and so I’ve switched to maternity leggings and jeans which are so comfortable. It does however make my pregnancy more obvious and so I’m only really wearing these comfortable things when I’m home and not going anywhere.
At what stage did people start wearing maternity clothes?

Er yeah this happened to me with my twins. Sorry 🤣

Bubbletrouble43 · 20/10/2020 12:55

For comparison didn't show till about 15 weeks for my singleton!

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 12:57

😂 I’m hopeful actually... at my age twins would be wonderful! A whole family in one hit! My husband might keel over though... scan in a couple of weeks.

I just ballooned in the first few weeks of pregnancy.. felt like it was all hormonal bloating/weight gain. With me, it wast “bump” (i.e. uterus) it was just general big tummy... felt squishy, not firm like a bump.

But because I expanded early on, I’ve not really changed much since. I’m now 16 weeks and I probably look the same now that I did at 9 weeks.

I’m not having twins btw.

aToadOnTheWhole · 20/10/2020 13:00

About the same. But I looked and felt more pregnant at 8-11 weeks than I do now at 18. The bloating at the beginning does for me completely. Do what keeps you comfy! Both singleton pregnancies btw Grin

JemimaTiggywinkle · 20/10/2020 13:00

*wasn’t bump

steppemum · 20/10/2020 13:01

I think it depends on your usual clothes.

For example, if your normal jeans/trousers are quite snug, then as soon as you are pregnant it is like being just pre period, with bloating etc, some clothes are really uncomfortable.
If you don't want to look pregnant, then go up a size, so you don;t have a bump focus.

I didn't really show at all in first 12 weeks with any of mine.

Bubbletrouble43 · 20/10/2020 13:02

What age are you op? Twins do become more likely the farther you get past 35 but you probably know that. I was in my 20s when I had my singleton and 41 when I got pregnant with my twins.

SpaceOP · 20/10/2020 13:06

I didn't wear most maternity clothes until 20 weeks.... but jeans and low waisted trousers had to go very early. I think it's where the first bit appears. I had some high waisted work trousers that were just fine for weeks and weeks.

With DC2, I didn't realise I was pregnant. And when I couldn't do up my jeans and was a bit surprised about weight gain, DH kindly assured me it was just a bit of post-holiday weight, that I looked great, and it would fall off in a week or two! haha.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 20/10/2020 13:12

I had to start wearing maternity trousers for work by 9 weeks. But I was a bit underweight when I got pregnant & the bump was uncomfortable against my waistband very early on, I had to keep hoiking it up every time I sat down at my desk. I wasn't visibly pregnant until about 15 weeks.

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 13:15

I am in my 40s and twins do run in the family. I am very gassy (sorry tmi!) so I know some of the bump is that. However it is a firm round bump, not squishy at all.

Your in the dreaded bloated phase, it's not actual bump or baby but bloating but it can make you feel massive can't it!
To be honest if maternity clothes feel more comfy just shove them on, what's the harm it'll cause Smile

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 13:19

I can still wear plenty of clothes, but they are all much tighter that’s for sure. My new maternity leggings are so comfortable that I think I’m going to have to just embrace it and get them in a couple more colours! My boobs are bigger and firmer but so far tops aren’t so much of an issue so long as they’re a bit baggy and not fitted.

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 13:23

Yes @sarahc336 I am def in the bloated phase! But I can see that if the uterus is currently the size of a grapefruit with one then if there were twins then that could def show by now!
@Bubbletrouble43 your story of twins in your 40s is encouraging! We shall see! It’s been a long wait and I’m excited just to be on this journey.
I’m going with comfort anyway... bring on the maternity leggings!

Me too - I was in maternity wear from 9 weeks and I'm having twins 🤣

Poppyismyfavourite · 20/10/2020 13:40

My jeans wouldn't button at about 10 weeks! But at 18 weeks I wasn't much bigger so I think it was bloat at first, then as the bloat went down the baby grew!

Poppyismyfavourite · 20/10/2020 13:40

^ only 1 baby by the way!

PlanBea · 20/10/2020 13:44

I'm only having one (according to my early scan, my 12 week scan might say differently!) But have been so bloated most days I've swapped to maternity legging at 11 weeks.

I've been WFH since march and was living in leggings anyway but my non-maternity leggings had a tight waistband on them. I think what you're typically wearing makes a difference too. Comfort is king so I'm just embracing it now!

AntiHop · 20/10/2020 13:45

I'm also in my 40s and pregnant with dc2. Around 10 weeks I was really bloated and was really panicking about looking pregnant already, especially as I was due to start a new job. I found most of my wardrobe didn't fit. Instead of going straight to mat clothes, I bought a couple of outfits one size up. I'm now 16 weeks and those clothes are still fitting, and people haven't noticed I'm pregnant. I'm not having twins!

AntiHop · 20/10/2020 13:45

Ps my one size up clothes trousers are all elasticated waists Grin

Muddypuddlesinthewoods · 20/10/2020 13:47

With dt at 9 weeks I was no longer able to fasten my trousers in comparison with dc1 I was about 18 weeks when I gave in and bought the maternity wear.

JessicaPeach · 20/10/2020 13:47

Twins for me when this happened too. I had a good sized bump by 9 weeks and I've just rapidly expanded ever since. I'm 25 weeks now and bigger than I was at 38 weeks with my previous pregnancy (born weighing nearly 10lbs at just past 38w!) My twins look big too, one one the 98th and one off the line

JessicaPeach · 20/10/2020 13:50

Meant to add I'm 39 and twins also run in my family.

LittleTiger007 · 20/10/2020 13:53

Oh my @JessicaPeach! Big babies! That must be hard work to carry around... and so long to go!

Yes, 2lb each at 24 week growth scan! Still can't decide what size clothes to buy for my hospital bag, I'm torn between being well aware that they are big and also thinking if they are that big they will probably come early and be 'small' in relative terms!
