Hi everyone,

Just looking for ideas!
Since the world is in such a strange place...I want to do something special to make our families smile!

Obviously our gender reveal cant be done in person, so I'm looking for some ideas of how to announce the gender?

I was thinking of something with pumpkins with Halloween coming but any ideas would be fab!!

Thank you xx

Thank you to everyone...I was expecting the negative comments but to be honest, its everyone's personal choice!

It wont be on social media as I dont use instagram etc...simply to share with my family as I live 400miles away from them and havent seen them since the beginning of lockdown!

Thank you for all your ideas - they are fab! And for the people who feel the need to leave negative comments, please refrain from it..dont you think 2020 has been negative enough?😅

X

Sorry, the sex.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 03/10/2020 17:15

Is this something you want to do when you can see the reactions?
I would possible start a group whatsapp chat if you don't have one and play with them a bit.
Do a bit of Derren Brown. Little messages like
Boy I am tired today.

Or have every letter at the start of the sentence spell out the sex. E.g Good news everyone. I am going go let you know sex of the baby. Really excited for you all to find out. Love you all.

Keep doing random things for a couple of days. And then when you do the reveal in some way, you can screen shot all the clues you have sent them.

I am so rubbish with ideas haha

mummy2myJJ · 03/10/2020 17:51

Wow people are so boring and rude... I love GENDER reveals! The pumpkin idea is so cute I've seen a few people do that the last few years... maybe do it over a zoom party or Skype people individually whichever works better for you and spin the pumpkins round revealing boy or girl to see their reactions! Im still deciding how to do my GENDER reveal... hope it goes well xx

Strawberries4days · 03/10/2020 18:08

You could get a large pumpkin and a small pumpkin that would fit inside the large one. Carve the large pumpkin into a design if your choice, like a smiley jack-o'-lantern or the words "BOY OR GIRL". Paint the small pumpkin blue or pink with white writing/designs, make it fancy if you want! So when you do the video call to your family, show them the large pumpkin, place their bets and then lift the lid and reveal the small painted pumpkin then celebrate!

Understand everyone saying that they don't care about reveals, love them what ever sex the baby is or prefer surprise but this post was about ideas on how to reveal which would cheer up family members who they haven't seen in half a year. I love the pumpkin idea, it's unusual!

Congratulations OP💐💐

Isn't it funny that we all perceive 'boring' so differently. I'd personally find a sex reveal party utterly mindnumbing...
LynetteScavo · 03/10/2020 18:22

I don't really mind if people want to scatter a bit of glitter and pop balloons and squeal with excitement if that's what makes them happy. But I do strongly object to blue for a boy and pink for a girl.

I've never really cared what kind of baby anyone else is having. I'm just happy if they're having a baby.

Maybe look on Instagram #genderreveal

iloveyoubutilovememore · 03/10/2020 18:22

Once again SO many opinions and generally unwanted comments. How can people get so annoyed by a gender reveal? Far worse things to do.

I saw a smoke one recently which was lovely! What about tying it in with fireworks night?!

iloveyoubutilovememore · 03/10/2020 18:23

Sorry sex reveal. Quick, lock me up and throw away the key!

RiaOverTheRainbow · 03/10/2020 18:31

A smoke or firework reveal would be very poor taste given how recently that exact thing has caused devastating wildfires in California.

Whatthedoodle · 03/10/2020 19:00

Sorry OP, I haven’t read all of the other comments due to the negative ones so I don’t know if I’ll be repeating anyone.

If you’re planning on a Halloween theme could you fill a pumpkin with blue/pink confetti and film you or your partner emptying (or do it live on a zoom call)

Or write “it’s a” on one side of a pumkin, and calve girl/boy in the other side with a candle in the pumpkin and film yourself turning it round (or just write it rather than calving it)

It’s a nice idea to do a little reveal. I personally opted against them during my pregnancies purely because I hate a fuss but I do love seeing other people’s. We find out what we’re having next week and we’re getting a cannon for our 4yo told pop. I’m not very creative with things like this but I’m sure whatever you do will feel special.

annlee3817 · 03/10/2020 19:28

You carve boy or girl, leave the lights off and then pop a candle in it or a little light to reveal the sex

Pogmella · 03/10/2020 20:53

Send them all a card with £1 in for a boy or 75p for a girl to reflect the gender pay gap- awww!

FourPlasticRings · 03/10/2020 21:03

That is genius. Do that.
silverstorm101 · 04/10/2020 02:32

A friend of ours did something with a coloured led light. It was in a lantern type thing and it was a great idea!

Maybe you could do one inside a pumpkin.

Oh and you rock your reveal! I think they are great and love seeing them!

opendoors · 04/10/2020 05:34

Ergh all I can say is I’m glad I don’t know some of the people on here in real life 🤮 So boring, rude and judgmental.

I love gender reveals. It’s a special time so enjoy it however you choose to OP 💙💖

CarolVordermansBum · 04/10/2020 10:03

I second this idea

Highheels87 · 04/10/2020 13:23

Could you do a pumpkin and put one of those smoke things in there so one of you could take the top off and the smoke comes out of the holes you made.

I personally love these reveals. It’s such an exciting part of the pregnancy. People who don’t care for it that’s upto them but leave the rest of us to do it however big or simple as we choose to.

I popped a balloon in the garden with the sex everyone was expecting and then brought out a cake with the actual sex saying they have been tricked. I wanted to do something that would make everyone smile in such horrible times. My family loved it, it will always be remembered and it’s all recorded for baby later on 🙂

Amelia49 · 04/10/2020 13:37

Ignore the negative, unhelpful replies here. They should get a life.

I think the idea of doing something to cheer people up sounds good and I'm doing the same. We'll be doing it via Zoom with some family and friends, and then just sending a video via WhatsApp to the rest. We'll probably do the canons/balloon idea outside and setting up the camera to capture the moment. Hope you enjoy your special moment! xx

MimiDaisy11 · 04/10/2020 22:35

What did you choose to do?

I think there are some fun ideas here. I don't get the negative comments here, even if I didn't care particularly about whether it was a boy or girl I'd find it fun to get some cupcakes or something like that.

Pogmella · 05/10/2020 09:07

Do you have to google ‘sex balloon’ to get the ones with confetti in? I’d be worried it would bring back some odd results...

FourPlasticRings · 05/10/2020 11:03

@Pogmella, you'd need to Google 'gender reveal balloon' I daresay. Tends to be the preferred term among those who host such events.

Luce89 · 05/10/2020 21:22

@022828MAN

I like watching gender reveals on YouTube of people I don't even know

Dear God, really?!

@022828MAN really. Almost as much as you clearly like trying to make people feel bad about themselves and their life choices on the internet.
