Hi,
I only found out I was pregnant on Sunday, and as of today, Thursday, I believe I’m 6 weeks and 6 days. Since Sunday I have also had bad diarrhoea. 5 days on and it still doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
Has anyone else experienced this?

I appreciate it may not be pregnancy related but thought I’d ask if anyone else had experience similar in case it is. And if so should I be worried.
Thanks x

Hey! I'm 8 weeks tomorrow and from finding out at 4 weeks until about 6 weeks I suffered from diarrhoea. It seems to have eased now but still occasionally. I think surging hormones etc have a big impact on things! Try and make sure you're getting enough fluids xx

mynameiscalypso · 01/10/2020 19:03

Yup, this was how morning sickness manifested itself for me.

BEJ9102 · 01/10/2020 19:11

Thanks both. Damn it, I was hoping thIs pregnancy would be symptom free like my first. No such luck it seems.
I actually have an early scan tomorrow morning because I only found out on Sunday and basing my due date on the first day of the period before last as my most recent period can’t possibly have been a period as it was only two weeks before I found out I was pregnant. Confusing! And also slightly worrying that I had some bleeding (which I thought was a period) and now diarrhoea. So far this pregnancy is the total opposite of my first! ConfusedSad

Yes, it can be. I didn't get that, but I got awful trapped wind! Blush

BEJ9102 · 01/10/2020 19:23

Presumably Dioralyte is ok to take when you’re pregnant?

OnSilverStars · 01/10/2020 19:33

I had it with my first (a boy!) and not with my second (a girl!). It only lasted a week but I was on holiday and it was explosive! Confused

snapple21 · 01/10/2020 19:36

I'm really struggling with this at the moment too, 6 weeks tomorrow.

Probably best to ask GP. They could also advise on if/when the diarrhoea might be a problem or not eg you’ll need to keep hydrated
BEJ9102 · 01/10/2020 19:39

So glad to hear it’s not just me but sorry to those who have suffered/are suffering also!

My first was a girl (now 20 months old) and I had no symptoms at all. I wonder if this is an early sign it’s a boy!? We found out the gender with DD at 20 weeks but have decided to leave this one as a surprise!

I am seeming to have it on and off 2 days at a time, but I have IBS (gluten intolerance) but unfortunately bread has been then only thing I can eat and enjoy first thing without being sick. So I think it's that but aggravated by the hormones as I didn't use to suffer this much. Had an early scan a week ago and everything was fine.Youre probably best off speaking to a midwife?

RosettaR · 01/10/2020 19:44

Hi, I had this too. My advice would be to speak to the GP and see if they will do a stool test. They can check that way whether it's caused by an infection. If not they may just put it down to hormones (they did with me), depending how bad it is. If it's bad enough to dehydrate you I would think they should do something to help.

BEJ9102 · 01/10/2020 19:53

Ok, I’ll see how the scan goes tomorrow morning then speak to my GP. Today it’s been particularly bad, three times so far, but Tuesday and Wednesday I only needed to ‘go’ once in the morning which was all very lose but then that was it. Monday was fine But Sunday was pretty bad. I’ve been feeling pretty run down and shivery this afternoon and evening which I’ve attributed to the diarrhoea. Maybe dehydration? But I have been drinking plenty.

@BEJ9102 i suffered with diarrhea until 9 weeks. It was pretty bad... coupled with nausea.
I used rehydration sachet when needed.
It went away completely though now.
Just make sure you avoid dairy, spicy good and anything that can trigger.

Cafeaulait27 · 01/10/2020 21:26

I’ve had both diarrhoea and constipation! But not really any sickness.

I wouldn’t be able to ‘go’ for sometimes up to 5 days, and then would have diarrhoea for a few days! It seems to have calmed down a bit now.

reimah · 02/10/2020 12:12

Hi OP

I had diarrhoea from weeks 5-7, and it was horrible Blush
I am nearing 13 weeks now, and it seems to have started again!

KatyCherry23 · 02/10/2020 12:47

Hi, I had diarrhoea since conception until 14 weeks and now it's back at 15 weeks. It's hormonal but can worsen any conditions you have such as IBS, food intollerances, bowel diseases like crohns and colitis. I have a mild intollerance to apples and avoiding them seems to make me a bit better but still suffering a bit, so perhaps it would be worthwhile doing an exclusion of anything you know might trigger you.

A pharmist told me you cannot take diarolyte when pregnant because it contains alcohol 😳😳 she refused to sell it to me.

BEJ9102 · 02/10/2020 12:54

Thanks @KatyCherry23. Yes I have IBS so that doesn't help. It's still going strong today and making me feel quite sick too. I guess I dodged a bullet during my pregnancy with DD. Not so lucky this time!

I have a really busy 5 weeks of work starting on Monday too so the timing couldn't be worse!!

KatyCherry23 · 02/10/2020 13:17

@BEJ9102 I didn't have it with my first baby either, but this one is really putting me through it!
I hope you get some relief soon or can stay near a toliet at least!
Porridge in the morning seems to be helping me as it is very good for binding water. X

whatsthecraic91 · 02/10/2020 16:54

I had this from my positive test until my first early scan at 8 weeks. Then it completely disappeared! It was obviously pure anxiety 😅

jazzibelle · 02/10/2020 18:30

Yep, me too! Last time I was so constipated, so I bought figs to help move me along. I haven't really had to have them at all, definitely fast and loose this time around

theresaplaceforus · 02/10/2020 18:44

I had this right at the start and it was horrific, I was really struggling and had to leave work. I think I was 5-6 weeks at the time. I went to the GP for help because it was so bad, felt never ending but it actually only lasted about a week or so I think!

Waitingforbabypage · 02/10/2020 20:48

Jumping in on this as I'm super happy I'm not the only one experiencing this.
Only actually found out I was pregnant today, it's a little bit of a shock as I had a few bfn's and was actually waiting to see if I even ovulated- I'd convinced myself I was perimenopausal....but aaaaanyhoo, yes, for a few days now I've had an unsettled tummy.

BEJ9102 · 02/10/2020 21:32

@theresaplaceforus When you went to your GP what did they say? Did they give you anything for it or advise to do anything?

Manth84 · 02/10/2020 21:57

I found out a week ago that I was 5 weeks and I've had it every morning since. Lasts between about 6.30 until about 9.30am, maybe go 3 times or so. I have but it down to hormonal changes?

MollySxx · 06/09/2021 11:36

I know this thread is nearly a year old, but I need help😭 I've started suffering this today! I was constipated (I'm on progesterone due to recurrent miscarriages. that I insert the back door way) and this morning I've been on the sofa minding my own business, gagging thinking omg I'm gonna throw up. Then I got tight cramps in my stomach and slight backache and then to put it classy, I was sat on the toilet for about 10 minutes! Is this normal? Shall I keep an eye on it before going to the doctors? I've never had this in my other pregnancies (all pregnancies have ended in miscarriages)
