When did you start buying for baby?

What the title says basically lol!

How many weeks were you when you started picking up stuff for baby?

I’m still early (7weeks on Tuesday) but did people buy after early scans , or wait until the 12/20 week scan? When did you start thinking of big stuff??

After the baby was born so that I knew what I wanted. All I got before was the car seat, nappies, basic clothing and a Moses basket.

I started buying after a private gender scan around 16/17 weeks. DS was due in April so I made use of the Christmas/new year sales to get big bits

After my 20 week scan

After 20/25 wks

After 3 months x

27 weeks. Now I'm just getting the last few bits and bobs as little one is due in 4 weeks.

Thanks everyone! That’s a really good point about the sales after Xmas! I hadn’t even considered that!

I defo couldn’t wait until baby is here, I have 3 other dc in the house and need to be organised physically and financially . This will also be a csec so would need all in beforehand ideally.

I treated myself to something little after my BFP 😂 just a teddy.

We started clearing out the spare room after the first scan bit didn’t really buy that much until after DCs were here, babies don’t need much.

26 weeks and haven't started buying a thing. I am worrier. Waiting for 28 week scan.

20 weeks

I started knitting for him after 12w, bits and bobs after 20w, bigger items after 30w. Once I announced at 20w I got lots of lovely handed down things as well. Some family members asked what we needed at the very end of pregnancy when we already had what we needed.

About 30 weeks but we’d had a scare at 20 week scan and I struggled to let myself stop worrying enough to buy things.
32 weeks tomorrow with number 2 and I’ve done nothing.

Interesting to see how differently people think about this.
I started buying at around 14 weeks. I'd had a mc the previous year and then mc one of the twins I was pregnant with at that time. In my head, I told myself that somehow the remaining baby would know how loved and wanted they were if I began to buy the things they would need once born. Give them a reason to come, if you like. So I would buy something most weeks, often something small, but also the bigger things like the cot, pram etc. Of course now, many years later, I know it was daft, but at the time I really thought it would help.

Defo at least 20 weeks, just in case.

However I had my research done and had picked a pram/car seat (or at least a shortlist for both) by about 10/12 weeks, so I had a full 6 months to keep an eye out for sales, discounts and bargains. I think this is a good strategy on the expensive things :)

I’m interested in the responses here as I’m around the same stage as you @Mrsi2020.

I think I’ll hold off until after 20 weeks, maybe even later to buy anything new, but a lot of that is because we are in an apartment and don’t have a huge amount of storage space.

I did tell a couple of colleagues this week because the fatigue and nausea is starting to impact work, and one has already offered to give us a load of baby things that he and his wife no longer need. I’ve asked him if he can hold on to it all until I get to 12 weeks. Even though we’ve had a couple of scans already (IVF pregnancy so regular early monitoring), to me it feels far too soon at the moment to have baby things around even if we keep them stored away

I bought one or two little clothing items at 17 weeks but then waiting until after 24 weeks for anything else

@BlueJayTO it is interesting! I’m loving reading people’s reasons too! Aww congrats, how were your scans, ive one on Tuesday and dreading them not seeing a heartbeat 😱🙈

I’m hopeful, that if all goes well I should remain hopeful. I don’t think anything is certain in life but I couldn’t wait until after baby is here to buy anything lol. It would stress me out too much and with having a csec and 3 other kids I think it would spoil my time with new baby. I have all the big things mostly , just need small things like new Muslins and unisex clothes and blankets and nappies etc... I will prob start stocking up on those in my weekly shop just one thing a week xxx

I have 2 girls already and expecting my 3rd girl in January. I have tonnes of things packed away in the storage cupboards. All I need to do is buy a double buggy, a mother chest of drawers to store it all and a couple of snow suits for my angel.

I was holding off until third trimester. I only had a few baby vests beforehand. This was not a wise decision as then lockdown happened and I was forced to shop online for everything when I would rather have seen things in person!

We stuck with only basics before baby was born and got the rest after.

I prefer shopping in store too. Youcwantnto be able to see the fit and the material as different shops do different things. I like sainsburys however so can shop online with them and Asda george isn't too bad either.

I had a high risk pregnancy, and didn't dare buy anything at all until a month before my scheduled section at 36 weeks. I made a huge list much earlier than that though, with links to what I was going to buy. That way if things happened earlier DH or a family member could have bought pretty much everything online in half an hour (and we wouldn't have been home for a few weeks anyway if that were the case). Everything we bought was stored at my mum's house until we were actually home as well. A bit extreme I know!

20 weeks. I like to have the nursery decorated before bubs arrives even though they won't sleep there for about a year because I know it is very hard to get anything done when there's a new baby.

I bought a few bits after the 12 week scan, then have been buying steadily since 20 weeks. It’s worth remembering there can be a long waiting list for prams (we had to order ours 4 months in advance) so it’s worth factoring that in!

After 20 week scan. I’m 31 weeks now and waiting until I finish on annual leave before maternity to do the nursery.
