What the title says basically lol!

How many weeks were you when you started picking up stuff for baby?

I’m still early (7weeks on Tuesday) but did people buy after early scans , or wait until the 12/20 week scan? When did you start thinking of big stuff??

Xxx

We bought an outfit after 6 week scan. Will probably slowly start getting more after 12 weeks.

Was tempted by a car this week (dog plus baby isnt going to work in the current one) but decided that's way too big a purchase until we're sure!

On DC1 the nursery was done by 30 weeks but only because it was summer and I am a teacher so we had time. I didn't buy a single item until week 30. I am now pregnant on DC2, 35 weeks, I have bought one outfit, a moses basket, nappies and some formula, and I bought those last week. After that its hand my downs from her sister and gifts from people when she is born. I think I am actually done haha.

I had major problems buying things with DC1. I couldn't face the idea that things may not go right and I would be stuck with baby items. 30 weeks felt safe to me.

Nothing until after 20 week scan. And most things not till much nearer the end. It’s silly superstition but I didn’t have an easy time getting pregnant so didn’t feel confident having baby stuff in my house until then.

@Mrsi2020 the last one was a bit stressful as I’d had a bleed the night before, but thankfully all looks well!

I’m a FTM so need to buy all the kit!

With DC1, after 12 weeks, just an item a week.
I only found out later that our older relatives got busy knitting and crocheting as soon as word got round.

After my 20 week scan. I looked at loads of stuff after the 12 week scan, and was tempted to buy, but couldn’t quite bring myself to.

I got little bits but mainly bought stuff at 28 weeks. I personally wanted to wait 28 weeks as if baby was premature it would have a good survival rate at that point. But everyone has their own thoughts and there is no right or wrong x

I'm 24 weeks and apart from a set of baby grows I bought to reveal the gender, I haven't bought anything else yet. I do have a bouncer chair my sister gave me and a set of bottles my nan bought me too but that's it right now.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 29/09/2020 20:38

All I got before was the car seat, nappies, basic clothing and a Moses basket

So you did buy before the baby arrived? How soon? That's what the OP is asking.

34 weeks here and have hardly bought anything aside from a car seat and some nappies! But that’s probably because it’s DC2 and I know I’ve got a bundle of clothes in the loft, I just haven’t sorted them yet. With my first I think I bought one celebratory outfit after the 12 week scan and then started buying properly after the 20 week scan.

Mrsi2020 · 29/09/2020 20:53

I have most things, because I have everything of mine to my sister and her dd is 20 months so she is ready to hand all back!

I think I’d like to start picking stuff up as I go along after the 12 weeks scan. It’s really interesting everyone’s when’s and why’s! Thanks all! Xx
