Hi all!
So I’ve caved and booked an early scan for tomorrow evening as I just can’t face waiting for a letter for my 12 week scan any longer! 🙈

I think I will be just over 7 weeks (earliest) could be further along as my cycles are irregular but I’m pretty sure it’s 7 based on my OPKs for that month.

Am I likely to need a transvaginal scan in order to see the heartbeat? Or will they be able to perform the scan abdominally?

I’m so excited but also nervous about the whole thing!! I just need some confirmation that it really is happening!

I would love to know your early scan stories to put my mind at rest! Xx

Hi @MabelBunny4 congratations on your pregnancy! I had an early scan at 7 weeks for the same reason! Couldn't wait until 12 weeks! And yes it was an internal one, they started scanning first and then when they located the heartbeat they put the tv screens on for us to see. So don't panic if they take a little bit of time first :) its amazing seeing that little flicker knowing that there's a little thing living inside you!
Also don't panic if they says you are measuring behind than you think you are, that happened to me, they said I was 6w+3 or something but I knew I was 7w+1, sometimes it can be because baby is so tiny for them to be able to measure accurately. By my 12 weeks scan it was all spot on with my dates :)
Good luck!!

I had an internal scan at 5+6 and then they did an abdominal one at 7+6 week so I'm not sure what they would have done at bang on 7 weeks.

I was amazed at how much the baby had changed from 5+6 to 7+6 weeks though, it really was amazing.

Good luck for your scan :)

NickMarlow · 07/09/2020 18:44

I had an abdominal one at 7+6, was expecting to need a transvaginal one but it was fine abdominaly.

Oneandabean · 07/09/2020 18:48

I had one at 7 and half weeks, and managed to get a brilliant abdominal One. Was expecting to need a transvaginal one as carry a bit of tummy fat too but not needed

Livingmagicallyagain · 07/09/2020 18:52

Scan at 5+5, heartbeat not seen but all measuring correctly.
6+5, heartbeat seen but measured super small as gas in my intestine prevented clear view and so measurements were inaccurate.
7+5, measuring perfectly. Heartbeat. Brain forming!

All TV, which really is not a big deal! I was scanned due to a bleed, which can be normal.

Good luck!

I had a scan at exactly 7 weeks and it was internal. I have a tipped uterus so get better images from internals anyway so actually prefer them.

alessandra27 · 07/09/2020 19:08

I had one at 8+5 so a little later than you, but it was internal - window to the womb do that automatically before 12 weeks. I got an amazing image from it, a proper little baby like thing! It wasn't uncomfortable at all, and the sonography was lovely and explained everything, right down to how the size of my ovary showed which side the egg came from! I felt so much better and at ease afterward. I'm almost at 12 weeks now and am unfortunately back at the stage of not believing the baby is in there and am desperate for my next scan to put my mind at rest again! Not sure the slight worry and doubt will ever fully go haha!

Best of luck with your scan :)

I’ve just booked an early pregnancy scan for when I’ll be 7+1 for the same reason! I’m so worried that I won’t be pregnant anymore and want peace of mind before my 12 week scan which feels like ages away. My parents are visiting that weekend too and I want a bit more peace of mind before I tell them!

It says it provides an early pregnancy report, does anyone know what that looks like?

I’m going to window to the womb! I’ve read good reviews so hope it’s ok.

Chanel05 · 07/09/2020 19:25

7 weeks will most likely be internal.

Amelia49 · 07/09/2020 20:50

I had an early scan at 7 weeks 5 days, didn't need an internal scan as she managed to get a good picture of the baby and was happy to see everything was growing in the right places. It did take a little bit longer than a later scan, and she did ask if I was happy to get an internal scan if they were unable to get a clear image but in the end I didn't need it. There wasn't too much to see tbh, it's like a little cute outline of a peanut shaped baby! I didn't hear a heartbeat, but I could see my baby almost vibrating away and that is the confirmed heartbeat. It's still an amazing experience, and makes it feel really real! x

MabelBunny4 · 07/09/2020 21:03

Oh thank you all so much for your replies, it has made me feel a lot better! I just know I won’t sleep tonight thinking about it and will be wishing the hours away at work tomorrow!

Xx

I had a vaginal scan at 6 & 8 weeks, (saw both heartbeats at 6 weeks, then had another at 8 weeks to make sure they were both still there) then an abdominal one at 9 weeks where I heard their heartbeats. I burst into tears!

Congratulations, and good luck for tomorrow!

Yas1993 · 08/09/2020 09:06

Hi ladies!!
Lovely reading through all your comments, I've just found out that I'm pregnant and it's so early on that I don't know if I can wait until 12 weeks!! I think I'm 3 weeks 3 days. What would you do? Xxx

Another123 · 08/09/2020 09:06

Hi, I had an abdominal scan at 6+5 and could see it clearly (looks like a peanut as a PP said) with a pulsing heartbeat.

@cafeaulait27 My report was confirming there was one fetal pole with a heart rate, the size, the expected due date and the condition of my uterus and ovaries.

Chanel05 · 08/09/2020 09:34

@Yas1993 congratulations! I had scans at 7+2 and 10+5. I'm now 39 weeks.

MabelBunny4 · 08/09/2020 18:40

Hi all!

Just thought I’d update you! Have just got home from the scan and so so happy that everything looked perfect! It was abdominal and was able to see everything clearly! Confirmed the dates which I thought based on ovulation which was 7w2d (over 2 weeks later than midwives have down - plus side is that 12 week scan will be sooner and maybe even get to go back again a couple of weeks later as I’ll only actually be 10weeks!? Who knows? and we could even see where the little arms and legs are starting to sprout!!

Thanks all so much for your positive stories! I’m really relieved and so glad I did it after much umming and ahhing!

X

So glad you had a lovely experience @MabelBunny4! We've got one booked for Thurs night at 8+3. Not sure whether it'll be abdominal or vaginal yet.

MabelBunny4 · 08/09/2020 19:45

@Catwoman1985 good luck! My bladder was really full which helps and I’m quite slim which she said makes abdominal easier! X

@MabelBunny4 that’s so exciting!! Would you like to share a picture of the scan? No pressure but I’d love to see!

So glad you had a good experience.

Cafeaulait27 · 08/09/2020 20:42

@Another123 ah thank you for explaining!

I’m so excited for my scan... I’m so paranoid that I did another test today which of course was positive.

I haven’t bled and I am having milky white discharge.

I just hope everything will be ok and normal!

Lazydaisydaydream · 08/09/2020 20:46

@MabelBunny4 congratulations! Flowers

MabelBunny4 · 09/09/2020 07:18

@Cafeaulait27 of course! To be honest I scoured the internet fir other people’s scan pictures before mine do happy to share one for others to see!

This one is my fav because it’s from the back, shows the spine and the little arm and leg stumps just sprouting!!! 😍💓

Also I was doing tests right up until last friday just to keep reassuring me! (I think I’ve done 9 in total now but I’ve run out so that’s it, no more!!!)

I’m also having milky white discharge, from what I’ve read it’s totally normal 😊 xx

@MabelBunny4 wow that scan is amazing! Thanks for sharing! It must have been such an amazing and beautiful moment for you!

Twinkletoes85 · 10/09/2020 13:01

Thank you so much for this thread! I've got an early scan booked with window to the womb on the 27th (when I should be 7+1).

I'm 4+5 now and terrified beans going to go away. I feel better about the early scan being positive after reading this

Dyinginsideatthecringe · 10/09/2020 13:03

Scan at what I thought was 7 weeks but I was 5 weeks and 5 days - tiny heartbeat detected.
