we mentioned we didn't not want to find baby's sex but when i looked on the health report they sent me afterwords, on screen it says gender: female.
Have they ruined our surprise? If it's not a girl i cant see why else would say sex: female 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️.

It wouldn’t be a typical thing to write down on reports- it might just be referring to you? Normally the patient details (ie you) are at the top of the screen - usually that type of screen would have your name and not “baby of” as well as your ID numbers/DOB etc, not the baby’s.
If they are writing the baby’s sex on those reports and giving you copies then that’s kind of bad and probably needs a complaint/feedback. Hard to do that though without finding out for sure!

Tavannach · 27/08/2020 02:50

I dont know if that refers to the baby - I would guess that it does since the mother is obviously going to be female.
I get why you might be disappointed if you didn't want to know but although a scan is a chance to find out the sex of the baby that's not its primary purpose. It's to check the baby's growth.

I think that's referring to you. The machine doesn't know that it's only being used for obstetric scans. That part of the screen is all about the scan itself, the sonographer, the referring physician, etc., and probably appears on all the standard reporting templates the machine runs. If they also used it for abdominal scans, for instance, there would be fields for the measurement of the liver, gall bladder, and things.

I expect gender should be sex is a field the machine won't allow them to leave blank, because it affects the normal measurement ranges, unlike the date of birth one in the same section, which they've not bothered to fill in.

Mummyspider27 · 27/08/2020 03:10

Looking at that, I think it’s definitely referring to your sex, not the babies. That top section is about you. Although Window to the Womb is only for pregnancy scans, the equipment they use will be standard and used medically for both men and women. I had a gender scan with them and they didn’t write it on the report, they physically typed it onto a photo. I am certain that they haven’t given anything away, call them tomorrow to ask if you are unsure. If I remember tomorrow I’ll dig out my report and look, because I had a boy xx

Footlooseandfancy · 27/08/2020 06:50

That's your sex. The top bit is about you but they've not filled in the rest with the bottom section about baby. In my NHS scans they've typed in the baby's sex along with their notes because we asked to know.

DJBebe · 27/08/2020 07:26

Thank you ladies. I'll give window to the womb a call today because i will be very disappointed if they made that note in error when we mentioned we don't want to know baby's gender. 😳

GreyishDays · 27/08/2020 07:28

That’s your info, not the baby’s. Smile

NavyBerry · 27/08/2020 07:31

It is about you not the baby. The equipment can be used for different scans not only pregnancy scans. The software allows to populate extra details about the patient. No problem at all.

DJBebe · 27/08/2020 07:34

What puzzles me is why would they write down my gender when it's a pregnancy scan? 🤷‍♀️

cherrybakewellll · 27/08/2020 07:37

I've used window the womb with all 3 kids, 3 boys and 1 girl. The female bit is defiantely you because I had that with all 3. If you want to know the sex they give it to you on a depressed piece of paper being a gender presentation note.

peonyrose87 · 27/08/2020 07:37

@DJBebe the machine doesn't know it's a pregnancy scan, they're used for many different types of ultrasound. It's your sex, not the babies

cherrybakewellll · 27/08/2020 07:41

Window to the womb do offer other types of private scans.

mummyh2016 · 27/08/2020 07:41

I can't see the point in calling them, even if they tell you it applies to you will you believe them?

PotteringAlong · 27/08/2020 07:41

What puzzles me is why would they write down my gender when it's a pregnancy scan?

Because you don’t just get an ultrasound if you’re pregnant. It’s used for all sorts of things. And it’s a standard machine, so the imaging comes out on a standard printout. Therefore it has a part to write in the sex of the patient.

You are female. It’s referring to you.

Flamingo999 · 27/08/2020 07:43

Fairly certain it is referring to you. This is a similar page from one of my scans. Hope this helps

DJBebe · 27/08/2020 07:48

Thank you all.
@mummyh2016 why would I not believe them? I am a FTM and i don't know what to expect and what is normal to be captured on a fetal scan report so I don't believe i deserve the sarcasm.

WFHWFH2020 · 27/08/2020 07:55

I just looked at my scan info and it’s exactly the same layout and for sex it says other! 😁 they wrote boy on the scan on his bits so - no they haven’t told you the sex of the baby.

AnnaSW1 · 27/08/2020 08:03

It's definitely you. Not all ultrasounds are for pregnancy hence that box to fill in

mummyh2016 · 27/08/2020 08:10

OP I wasn't being sarcastic Hmm I think you will have a doubt at the back of your mind until your baby arrives. One of my friends didn't want to find out the sex at her scan however the sonographer referred to her baby as he. Despite her apologising and staring she refers to all scans as he my friend didn't believe her. Baby arrived and it was a boy. My friend is adamant that the sonographer spoilt the surprise, despite knowing full well there was a 50/50 chance of it being a boy. If your baby does turn out to be a girl there is a chance you will feel the same.

MrMeSeeks · 27/08/2020 08:12

Its your sex . All the info st the top is yours.
What puzzles me is why would they write down my gender when it's a pregnancy scan?
Because it’s your Identifying information Of course it will record this.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 27/08/2020 08:17

It's sex not gender.

Even if you call them, there's still a 50% chance the baby is a girl. The odds of either are 1 in 2 so it's not like they've narrowed it down from 20 options.

You don't want to know - you still don't know. Move on.

ImaSababa · 27/08/2020 08:22

@Butterer

I don't know if it definitely refers to the baby and not to you - a pregnant woman's gender isn't always going to be female (although their sex will be).- see Freddy McConnell.
😖

Don't tell me you've fallen for this... Please have some respect for the female sex and wise up.

emma911030 · 27/08/2020 08:57

As others have suggested I think that's likely your details than the baby 😊

MoreCookiesPlease · 27/08/2020 09:05

Refers to you, not the baby.
