FTM here, trying to sort hospital bag - really not sure what people wear during labour?

Actually giving birth...a night dress.

NatalieH2220 · 09/08/2020 21:18

Mine was a bit last minute so I just had on the top I went in with and nothing on bottom half. I packed a nightdress for after I'd given birth.

Boringnamechanging · 09/08/2020 21:18

First time a nightdress
Second time the t-shirt I arrived in within minutes of arriving at hospital

DS1 - nothing at all - was in the birthing pool and was genuinely surprised to discover subsequently that some people wear bikini tops etc. Hadn't occurred to me to not be naked!
DS2 - shirt and cardigan. Just about got my trousers off and pants down in time!
It really doesn't matter and nobody (least of all you) will care! Just choose something you will be comfortable in.

Teacaketotty · 09/08/2020 21:21

Started with pjs, took the bottoms off at one point then ended up in a hospital gown for epidural - don’t remember much after that!

gg321 · 09/08/2020 21:22

Handy to have a nightdress that buttons open down the front if your doing instant skin to skin and feeding, and a spare one for after as the first one probably won’t stay clean!

greytminds · 09/08/2020 21:23

Gap black maternity nightie - very soft and lightweight and dark so didn’t show up all the gore. I still like to wear it on hot nights.

Dollywilde · 09/08/2020 21:24

Not given birth yet but with any hope will do this week... I’m hoping for the birth pool so have packed a tankini top (though I’m totally embracing the fact that I may choose to go naked in there!)

I’ve also packed two ginormous men’s T-shirts to throw over me if I can’t do the pool for whatever reason.

Orchidflower1 · 09/08/2020 21:24

Hospital gown first time.
Vest top I went in wearing second time.

BeMorePacific · 09/08/2020 21:24

Hospital gown! I’m thinking just a bra/bikini top this time x

TwigTheWonderKid · 09/08/2020 21:30

Nothing and certainly not the kaftan in the perfect shade of turquiose that I had convinced myself I had to buy to give birth in and which I had spent the two weeks before DS1 was born hunting for in every shop in London...

EarringsandLipstick · 09/08/2020 21:31

Nothing with DD! I'd packed cheapie nightdresses but couldn't face anything near me when it came to it.

Just at end they put something over me as I got a bit cold.

Like PPs, DS1 arrived & I'd only managed to take off my skirt. I remembering looking at this big chunky necklace I had in as I was giving birth!

DS2 fastest birth but the only one I actually changed into a loose-fitting nightdress for.

Hospital gown

Xyzzzzz · 09/08/2020 21:34

A cheap nightdress from primark that I then threw away. I changed into another one primark (I bought a few - that I’ve since kept and wear now)

42daystogo · 09/08/2020 21:37

Nothing, started with a nightie and sports bra which all came off when in the water

Bluebelltulip · 09/08/2020 21:39

1st: t-shirt I was wearing beforehand
2nd: nightie
3rd: t-shirt I was wearing beforehand

All changing into my nightie did in my 2nd was add an extra piece of clothing to wash.

Gerdticker · 09/08/2020 21:41

Nothing - I was in the pool and really couldn’t have cared less who could see me!

But I’d choose to have a comfy crop top and loose short-ish dress to have on at the start next time and go from there!

Megan2018 · 09/08/2020 21:43

One of my husbands old tshirts that had shrunk so I adopted it. It is incredibly soft and I found it somewhat comforting

sausagepastapot · 09/08/2020 21:45

Naked, loved being totally natural in the moment

Bingobongo1 · 09/08/2020 21:45

Both times button fronted nightie.
Don't wear anything you wouldn't want ruining my first one ended up stained in blood and cut off me.
I bought mine in primark as big as I could get. Great for skin to skin contact after and breastfeeding.

TokenGinger · 09/08/2020 21:48

The t-shirt to my pyjamas which I changed into when I got there as the clothes I was wearing were soaked from my waters.

When packing my case, I only took one night dress and one pair of pyjamas. I have no idea why. The pyjamas were written off from labour and my night dress was bled on after a few hours. My dad has to stop off at get my some extra night dresses and big knickers (because I went through the four I packed in just as many hours).

I packed more than enough for DS but hadn't really given enough thought to how heavily I would bleed afterwards. I was constantly changing!

SantaMonicaPier · 09/08/2020 21:48

Nightdress, v quickly removed when I laboured in a pool for both births

tinyradish · 09/08/2020 21:54

Just a strap top (water birth.) Think I'd packed a tankini top or bikini top of some kind but was so desperate to just get un that I wipped my trousers & underwear off & that was that ;D

SlB09 · 09/08/2020 21:54

Nightie from Asda, it was cross over at the front for easy boobage/skin access and obviously open at the bottom for the business to happen without flashing everything! Worked well!

apric0t · 09/08/2020 21:55

It was in the middle of a heatwave, I started off in a nursing bra and knickers and in the end was totally naked, I didn't make it into the pool like I wanted, gave birth naked on a birthing stool and remained that way for the next few hours having lovely skin to skin
