I’m 34 and have gone my whole life without knowing what heartburn feels like... until I fell pregnant! Don’t get me wrong, I feel mightily blessed to be pregnant but oh my god the heartburn! Please tell me it goes 😂😭

Yes it does! In the meantime milkshakes are an instant relief and omeprazole a complete life changer! You can buy it over the counter but Shoild be able to get a prescription for it!

fannyanney · 09/08/2020 21:17

Yes! It goes straight away from what I can remember

Babs709 · 09/08/2020 21:17

It sure does. Double action gaviscon tablets.

ireallyamthewalrus · 09/08/2020 21:25

Yup, instant relief. If you’re not taking anything for it yet, do.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 09/08/2020 21:41

Yes and no.
The crippling, horrible there every night heartburn definitely goes as soon as your stomach isn't being pushed up high. But i'm still a little prone to it if I lie on my right side and eat too late at night.

BingerGiscuit · 09/08/2020 21:42

Thank GOD for that! There is light at the end of the tunnel 😂
Gaviscon liquid does seem to do the trick but doesn’t last long! The tablets just get all stuck in my teeth 😂

@DrMadelineMaxwell did you have it before you were pregnant?
Suppose I should be grateful I went 34 years without it 😂

GP can prescribe omeprazole which will make it go away completely.

strawbmilk · 09/08/2020 21:49

Yep was evening having Gaviscon in labour with dd. Never had heartburn again until I was pregnant with ds but gaviscon didn't cut it this time and got omeparzole from the dr. One tablet a day and I never had heartburn again until I missed a tablet. Never made that mistake again 😂

Bumfuzzled · 09/08/2020 21:52

It instantly goes, such a relief Smile

Robs20 · 09/08/2020 21:54

Seriously, get your GP to prescribe you omeprazole. I thought it wouldn't make a difference but it really helped me when pregnant. I had horrendous heartburn because twin 2 was lying under my ribs and this helped so much. Oh and it went literally as soon as my babies were born.

AriettyHomily · 09/08/2020 21:55

Mine went instantly after my c section. It was such a relief!

RandomUsernameHere · 09/08/2020 21:55

Yes don't worry! Never had it before pregnancy and never had it again after giving birth.

PolloDePrimavera · 09/08/2020 21:57

Every side effect (sickness etc) stops as soon as you have the baby.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 09/08/2020 21:57

Another vote for omeprazole, it’s amazing.

tinkerbellvspredator · 09/08/2020 21:58

Yep, first pregnancy not too bad had lots of the chewable tablets. Second pregnancy worse, "gave in" and got prescribed omeprazole which was amazing. Should have done it sooner.

FenellaMaxwell · 09/08/2020 22:00

Maybe it’s a Maxwell thing but like @DrMadelineMaxwell, I had never had it before but since I have been more prone to it if I eat spicy or tomato based food too late at night.

Babs709 · 09/08/2020 22:13

Every time I get a little bit of heartburn now I immediate panic that I’m pregnant 😂 But don’t fear OP, it’s got nothing on pregnancy heartburn!

Littlejacksmummy · 09/08/2020 22:14

Good god, the pregnancy heartburn was horrendous! I ended up sleeping sitting up most of the time 😂 the money I spent on rennes was ridiculous.

It goes instantly.

I feel like I'm getting heartburn right now just remembering it 😂 it was AWFUL. 🤣

Oly4 · 09/08/2020 22:15

Yes it goes instantly

SpringFan · 09/08/2020 22:19

Yep.
I didn't need to do a pregnancy test with DS2. I got heartburn and constipation before I could do one, and both stopped immediately after he was born.

AudTheDeepMinded · 09/08/2020 22:21

Yes! But be prepared for hot sweats at night with hormone surges, especially if you are breast feeding. The fun never ends now you know!

emptyplinth · 09/08/2020 22:21

Yes it goes straight away. Hang on on there, you'll be ok.
Gaviscon did nothing at all for me, I found Rennies much more effective

Mummyofmay2020 · 09/08/2020 22:51

Gaviscon did nothing for me . Loved omeprazole only had to take it once. It defo goes!! It seems like a faded distant memory now

BingerGiscuit · 09/08/2020 22:53

Thank you everyone! ❤️

@AudTheDeepMinded yeah I had a feeling the fun never stops 🤣
