Okay...am 39+3, going for a VBAC so saw consultant for sweep this morning.
He said I was 60-70% effaced and 3cm dilated and did sweep which was very favourable.

Have been having strong niggly pains very low down on front of bump since then, not enough to time or anythign but definately soemthing along with constant low down backache.

here's my dilemma - DD is asleep on sofa, she is 20 months.
Her carer while I am in labour is MIL, who lives 3 hours drive away. I have no-one else nearby apart frpom friends /neighbours who could take her for a few hours in an emergency, but would cause untold hassle if I have to use them rather than letting DD stay at home.

Do I ring MIL now? Or do I wait?

Can't ask DH just for opinion as he is in very important meeting and if I do call everyone will freak out and send him home!

OKay, have had some food and a bath and am off to bed now...contractions were coming a lot stronger every 6-7 minutes before bath and have tailed off to eveyr 10, but still a lot stronger than they have been.

fingers crossed I will not last the night....

hoping for no update, as that means it is all underway !

if not, you have me permission to take to your bed and eat cakes all day !

RGPargy · 05/10/2007 12:07

Yeah, what's happening Chirpy?!!!

DoctorFrankenSquonk · 05/10/2007 12:09

I think we would have had an update by now if she was in a position to give us one.

I suspect she's off having a baaaaaybeeeeee

RGPargy · 05/10/2007 12:10

Well i never!!

Chirpyghoul · 05/10/2007 12:13

Well, I am very disheartened.

Woke up at 2 with strong sharp pains at teh base of my bump coming irregularly every 4-8 minutes that meant I couldn't sleep or get comfy so I came downstairs to potter. Was too uncomfortable to sit on pc chair (am on ball at mo!) so attempted to doze in front of tv for a few hours. took some paracetemol at half 3, did nothing.

Called labour ward at 6 and they said to go in at half 7ish and be monitored cos of CS scar.

So off I toddle, shouting at DH the whole way as the pains are right under teh seatbelt and his driving was not helping, to be monitored for 30 minutes and be told that
They are not contractions, they are 'only' tightenings
They can't be hurting that bad (wanna fucking bet?)
I am still only 3 fecking cm dilated
To go back in for monitoring if things change but to go home and rest (how? I'm in pain ffs)

At which I burst into tears. And got no sympathy from bitch midwife.

So here I am, still having these really sharp pains that aren't anything every 5 or 6 minutes, can't drive as would have ot pull over so can't go anywhere. Am going to go to park later but am exhausted from having not slept.
Had some lunch and am putting telly on for rest of day to keep DD quiet while I pootle around house doing nothing.

PLease, any advice/support for me would be most gratefully received, I am very very demoralised and keep crying [pathetic]!

Squonk - PPPPPPP

Chirpy - you poor thing!! Try not to worry about bitch mw. Just give her a kick in the crutch next time she's horrid to you!

No advice i'm afraid but you have my sympathies!

RGPargy · 05/10/2007 12:17

Squonk - that was mean to be :-P x 10

Chirpyghoul · 05/10/2007 12:20

thanks RG, I just felt like she thought I was being so pathetic, but they are the ones that keep telling me to go in and be checked cos I want a VBAC, and then they make me feel silly cos I have done what I was told!

I wondered why all the Ps

chirpy - don't get too disheartened, things are definitely happening, and if not today, tomorrow or the day after. One thing's for sure, you won't have to wait another nine months to meet this little one.

Pains that are nothing are such a pita and you have my sympathy

PregnantGrrrl · 05/10/2007 12:24

aw! only just seen your thread. best of luck, hope it all kicks off 10cm-stylee soon!

LoveMyGirls · 05/10/2007 12:25

It's very fustrating but you will get there, very soon!

LoveMyGirls · 05/10/2007 12:29

Oh btw i had a bitch midwife too who refused me anything not even gas and air from 11am to 4pm and then refused me an epidural grrrrr also told me at 8am when i went home after monitoring that i would see a mw nxt week (i was already 1 wk over and was def in labour) later i predicted I would have dd by the time eastenders was on, I had dd at 8pm just as the theme tune was starting!! So just shows sometimes they dont really know what they are talking about and you know your body best.

Do you have any feelings/ incklings?

asicsgirl · 05/10/2007 12:41

Just found this thread. If it's any consolation I had really irregular contractions that came and went (and sometimes stopped altogether) over 2-3 days before DS arrived.

I recognise the bitch midwife thing. The one thing I would add is that the midwives were very brusque and seemed quite uncaring while I was still 4cm or so (they kept saying I wasn't in enough discomfort and disappearing for hours!) BUT when things really did get going they were absolutely brilliant and I wanted to kiss them all afterwards. Harsh though it is, I really think some of them just come into their own when they are actually dealing with the birth - everything up to that point is just foreplay... maybe that's not the right metaphor

Very best of luck with it all! X

Lulumama · 05/10/2007 13:07

you are not only 3 cm, you are a third of the way there

your body is just taking a little while longer to get going

all those pains are doing something

don;t lost faith

you have come so far and you are 39 + 6, so you have bags of time really.

sex, nipple stim, resting, being nurtured, eat and drink, bath, just be.

or i will come and slap you !

in a nice way of course

Chirpyghoul · 05/10/2007 13:38

waaah, now you are being mean !

Am eating and drinking and going to spend afternoon lying on sofa doing feck all!

OP posts:
Lulumama · 05/10/2007 13:40

i'll join you for a bit of lying down doing feck all !

foxybrown · 05/10/2007 20:55

Do try not to get down about it. I went through the same 15 weeks ago (Lulumama was there for me too). To be honest, I had a couple of weeks of it. Don't want to put a downer on it by telling you she was 13 days late, BUT I was 6 cms before labour actually kicked off, and then it was all over in an hour and a half

Hang on in there, and try to keep positive - something is happening. Good luck again

Lulumama · 07/10/2007 19:51

am wondering if the silence means that baby day has arrived??

Chirpyghoul · 08/10/2007 18:02

It certainly does!

PregnantGrrrl · 08/10/2007 21:28
