Okay...am 39+3, going for a VBAC so saw consultant for sweep this morning.
He said I was 60-70% effaced and 3cm dilated and did sweep which was very favourable.

Have been having strong niggly pains very low down on front of bump since then, not enough to time or anythign but definately soemthing along with constant low down backache.

here's my dilemma - DD is asleep on sofa, she is 20 months.
Her carer while I am in labour is MIL, who lives 3 hours drive away. I have no-one else nearby apart frpom friends /neighbours who could take her for a few hours in an emergency, but would cause untold hassle if I have to use them rather than letting DD stay at home.

Do I ring MIL now? Or do I wait?

Can't ask DH just for opinion as he is in very important meeting and if I do call everyone will freak out and send him home!

Says you! They are still every 10-15 minutes, still don't really hurt but are just 'there' IYSWIM.
I'm starting to get really fed up with this!
I wish I could go see someone just to se if I am any more dilated, just so I'd know, but I know if I go to hospital they will keep me there cos I am after a VBAC and the midwife doesn't do housecalls at this stage, she just says to go in.
[grrrr]

when the contractions take more of your attention, and you cannot contemplate typing on here, you are getting ready to go in..

you are getting going, try not to focus to much on what is not happening, and just go with it

Chirpyghoul · 03/10/2007 15:37

Thanks!

It doesn't help that IL's are here with their dog, which means I have nowhere to sit properly (I can't put my feet up) and MIL is following me everywhere talking at me and generally getting in my way. I have already had to ask her once to leave me alone for 5 minutes so I could have some quiet time (while I cooked everyone lunch ffs), and I spent an hour in my room just now reading while DD napped so I could get some peace. I don't think the stress of having them here is helping but I can't tell them to piss off (long story, I just can't)

Am hoping they go back to boat in a few hours...

give them your DD and go to bed or for a bath or something ! you are allowed to be petulant and demanding, you are heavily pregnant and very hormonal !

Chirpyghoul · 03/10/2007 15:56

God, don't mention the hormones! I am so weepy and stroppy.
My friend rang me earlier for a chat and I burst into tears down the phone because I hadn't spoken to her in ages!

Tell me about it.

With my DS the hospital room was like piccadilly circus in the end I just hid under the blankets and cried and they still sat there looking at me.

This time I have told hubby....no visitors except him and DS.

Lulumama · 03/10/2007 17:21

hang on in there lovely !

Chirpyghoul · 03/10/2007 20:09

They've stopped again!

I am getting pissed off with this! IL's have gone back to where they are staying and I am going to have a pizza with DH and a sulk.
I am so looking forward to meeting this baby and it feels like my body is teasing me.

Humph!

you know what i;m going to suggest, don;t you

milliways · 03/10/2007 20:35

I had a sweep at 41 weeks(also nearly 3cm), went in to hosp next day but it all stopped.

The next week DS shot out in less than 1 hour!. At 9lb 6oz it was worth the wait for such an easy time

Good luck.

meemar · 03/10/2007 20:36

chirpy - can you find some footage of a birth online (if you can bear it)? There is evidence it can get things going, and I can testify to it - my waters broke 2 hours after watching a birth video with DS2

Either that or lulumamas suggestion

Lulumama · 03/10/2007 20:37

watch a comedy , the laughing will help, certainly to take your mind off things!

Chirpyghoul · 03/10/2007 20:49

Yes lulumama, I know

[mutter, mutter]

and DH has just pointed out that he did pay for the pizza on his credit card and we won't be able to for a few weeks as I will be BFing.....and he's so neglected...etc...etc

If it works I am banning him from telling anyone though! However, I will be straight on here to thank you!

if not ,rest up and chill out

read some ina may and get relaaaaxed

Chirpyghoul · 03/10/2007 21:05

I am wanting it too much I think so every twinge is being noted. DH and I have purposely stopped paying attention now until I have to.

I think I am having teh reverse of what normally happens, I can't focus on the birth and labour as I am too focussed on getting my beautiful new daughter in my arms....and I have no frame of reference having not laboured with DD

Right, am buggering off now to watch The Unit....mmmm..Scott Foley should put me in teh mood

Well, I'm still here!
Followed suggestions last night and all that I achieved was another bloody show (how much more of that crap is there!) last night and this morning and the BEST night's sleep I have had in weeks, I mean I feel GREAT today!
So some good done!
Am still getting niggles fairly regularly but am not timing (honest) and DH and I are taking DD to the nice park on the other side of town this morning to feed the ducks as I have mild cabin fever.

I;m going to keep posting on here as no-one in RL is listening anymore

Lulumama · 04/10/2007 08:57

sounds good

honestly , things are happening

your body is gearing up and all these practice contractions are helping , your cervix is thinning, dilating, and your baby is being nudged into a good position for birth

RGPargy · 04/10/2007 10:24

Ooo how exciting!!!

Chirpyghoul · 04/10/2007 12:47

Holy crap! More show?! Seriously, how much mucus can one woman produce! It's just there every time, ick.

I have just managed to freak out a shop full of bikers by telling them I was
'actually in labour now, oh yes, and ooh, I think that's another contraction'
while DH bought a new windshield for his bike after our walk in the park.

Honestly, big hard bikers and they all freaked out Well at least I have to get some amusement out of it!

OP posts:
Lulumama · 04/10/2007 12:48

i had a show for a week

any regularity yet?

Chirpyghoul · 04/10/2007 13:00

More or less every 15-20 mins ish, not paying too much attention though. They got worse when I was walking around but I am tired now

OP posts:
Lulumama · 04/10/2007 13:37

then go for a rest !

getting worse when walking ,eh??

sleep, drink RLT with honey, and wee regularly

Chirpyghoul · 04/10/2007 20:43

latest update.

Got to 5pm and realised I hadn't felt movement in a few hours, timed contractions and realised (to my shock) that they were 5 minutes apart, but still not painful.

I went into delivery suite to be checked and I am still 3cm. But she gave me an exam while I was having a contraction and said I was openeing to 4cm. Gave me another sweep and then I had to beg and plead to be allowed home as the doc (who never even saw me) wanted me to go and wait on labour ward until they get more regular.
Which is NOT going to happen

So I am home now, repacked my bags, am having some pasta and overwhelming MIL with info about DD. IL's are going to stay in our spare room tonight and hopefully by tomorrow something will be happeneing. MW said she expected to see me later tonight which is all good!

think lots of lovely strong opening dilating thoughts

a good strong visualisation is good

excellent you came home, labour ward not necc. the right place to get you in labour right now, as you under starters orders .. being at home and going with the flow is better for your state of mind

you are doing so well, stay positive, stay strong and go with it

foxybrown · 04/10/2007 21:36

Can I just drop by to wish you good luck?!

Hope you get to relax and rest until kick off!
