No gos in pregnancy, is this overly cautious?

Hello! Can anyone tell me if I am being OTT by not doing any of these things? I am worried I'm being overly cautious but don't want to risk anything. Am in first trimester, v early, hardly any symptoms so super paranoid.

No baths - I know that hot baths are not good but think warm baths are okay. Is this right? Thinking of just sticking my legs in and not my tummy. Lol.

One decaf coffee - I think this stems from over googling while ttc. I know you can have a regular coffee but switched to decaf anyway, then read something that suggested too much decaf coffee can make you hostile somehow to embedding eggs... is this rubbish? Or is it fine now I am pg?

Most controversial one - no alcohol free beer. I love this stuff and was gulping it while ttc but have read so much conflicting advice since most has 0.05% in it. Heineken website says, in its FAQ about pregnancy, this is essentially alcohol free as it's 0.05%. Doesn't really answer the question imho. Ok or skip?

Please tell me I'm being silly (except for maybe the beer) as I miss these things! Which I thought were all very reasonable and restrained til recently.

Feel free to add your own OTT pregnancy no goes.Grin

Warm bath is fine, get a bath thermometer if you're worried - you can use it for baby's bath after they arrive.

Decaf coffee is fine. The thing about stopping the egg embedding sounds like nonsense and wouldnt be applicable once you're pregnant, only when TTC. A small amount of caffeine is OK, but personal preference if you'd rather cut it out altogether.

Alcohol free beer has such a small percentage alcohol its really not going to do any harm. You'd have to drink about 27 litres of that to have the equivalent alcohol of one small glass of wine.

YouBoggleMyMind · 05/06/2020 18:07

All of the above is fine. Congratulations on your pregnancy 🤰🏼

MashedPotatoBrainz · 05/06/2020 18:12

The biggest risk from having a bath while pregnant is getting stuck in it at during the later stages. But that may have just been me.

I drank the same regular coffee through out.

I can't imagine alcohol free beer being an issue at all.

2007Millie · 05/06/2020 18:14

You're being very OTT.

Bol87 · 05/06/2020 20:27

Why is this on the coronavirus thread?!

Ps. All those things are fine. Not boiling hot baths but pretty warm is fine. Some people even go in hot tubs. Caffeine in moderation. There is some evidence of miscarriage risk from excessive caffeine. But a couple cups a day is fine. Alcohol free beer is fine. 0.05% is basically zero.

Baseline2815 · 05/06/2020 20:34

All of the things you mentioned are completely fine. Don't be concerned. Have a nice, warm bath, drink your decaf coffee and your non alcoholic beer.

Now, what others have been worrying you?

SamSeabornforPresident · 05/06/2020 20:36

All fine. Pregnancy is a bloody minefield, isn't it? Thanks

Dollywilde · 05/06/2020 20:43

I’m 30 weeks and currently drinking an alcohol free beer in the bath Grin Haven’t had any really hot baths or showers (mostly as I don’t want to faint) and have skipped hot tubs, but warm baths have been such a help for my lower back. I don’t drink coffee but have had one regular tea and at least one cup of decaf tea most days, and I’ve had plenty of AF beer - as PP says you’d need so much to even get near the equivalent of one alcoholic drink.

Do what makes you happy but honestly if you want to do one or all of the above, just crack on.

RoseGoldEagle · 06/06/2020 04:12

I read somewhere that orange juice is around 0.5% alcohol. If your beer is 0.05% then you’d need to drink a hundred of them to be equivalent to the alcohol content of one normal 5% beer (and that would still be fine!).

NiteWotcha · 06/06/2020 04:16

I've asked HQ to move this to the pregnancy board Smile

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 06/06/2020 04:23

@oliveroses slightly ott but I get it. Get a bath thermometer and have it at 37. That’s what your baby will be cooking in anyway as it’s roughly body temp. No harm in switching to caffeine free and you can gave more than 1 cup and unless you’re Drinking a crate of Heineken blue every night I reckon you’re fine! Congratulations

YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree · 06/06/2020 04:25

All fine, though I've recently given birth and the only one I stuck to whilst pg was no baths. I like baths way hot so wasn't really interested in a warm one.
The rest are unnecessarily strict imo but completely up you OP.

Rebelwithallthecause · 06/06/2020 04:38

I just gave birth to healthy baby

I had baths throughout at a decent temperature

I drank one coffee a day and plenty of normal tea

I had non alcoholic beers (and the occasional small glass of wine)

What I didn’t do - ate Pate

grey12 · 06/06/2020 05:36

I would say no beer, decaf is fine! The bath, well, my husband likes to set to scalding hot so he spends more time in. I don't think that would be good for a pregnancy.... but warm nice should be fine. Just don't spend too long there. The problem is that your blood pressure could go down a bit

LouMumsnet · 06/06/2020 13:23

Just wanted to let you know that we've moved your thread over to the Pregnancy topic, @oliveroses - congratulations on your pregnancy. Flowers

oliveroses · 06/06/2020 13:36

Thanks so much everyone! And so sorry, feel really daft for originally posting in the wrong area, thanks @NiteWotcha and @LouMumsnet. I actually hid the post because I didn't know what to do but obviously everyone else could see it ... phew

@2007Millie I know! 😂

@Baseline2815 believe it or not that's it. Honestly! Apart from wondering at this stage whether it's all a dream as I seem to have zero symptoms and nothing is really happening.

Okay, I am v much reassured and really looking forward to getting these bits of my lockdown 'life' back!xx

It's okay to be OTT.
Personally I wouldn't touch any alcohol alcohol free when pregnant.
Warm baths are okay but not really hot ones and I think there are some bubble baths you have to miss.
Don't worry about lack of pregnancy symptoms I had none. Now have a lovely 11 month old
DS Grin

oliveroses · 06/06/2020 13:57

@SpillTheTeaa @grey12 what are your favourite soft drinks? I am really not keen on sweet stuff and water is getting a bit dull!

OP posts:
heroineinahalfshell · 06/06/2020 14:10

I didn't have baths in first trimester and also avoided AF beer during that time (except for having a couple on NYE).... the no baths thing was because I wasn't sure what temp was OK, and the AF beer was because I went off it during first trimester sickness.

I'm now 30w and since 2nd trimester I've been drinking 2-3 AF beers a week, and having baths - DH gets in first and then I get in when it's a bit cooler but still warm. If it doesn't make me sweat but is still comfortable, it's OK.

One thing I never stopped was caffeine - can't function without my morning cuppa! But I try to stick to 2 cups of tea a day, and I don't drink much fizzy drinks but if I do, they replace my 2nd cup.

LASandOtto · 06/06/2020 14:18

There is a beer that claims to be completely alcohol free OP

www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/285864376

Maybe try that, in case your are worried about other brands

But I really wouldn't be concerned!

TeddyBeans · 06/06/2020 14:22

I had a bath pretty much every day when I was pregnant, it was glorious! Definitely don't need to avoid those. Coffee I can't advise on as I don't drink it and alcohol free stuff - go for it! I had alcohol free cider at Christmas 4 months before DS was born and didn't regret it for a single moment

dobbyssoc · 06/06/2020 14:43

I never heard of the bath thing till after DS was born. I had my normal hot baths throughout.

Cazzy198 · 06/06/2020 14:46

OP I had a very symptom free pregnancy with no sore boobs, no sickness, no real tiredness and not much of anything really other than a healthy appetite and growing bump (eventually).

I dont have a bath but I did drink lots of decaff coffee and lots of alcohol free beers and I now have a healthy 1 day old baby.

Relax and congrats

grey12 · 06/06/2020 15:11

what are your favourite soft drinks?

I like to drink schloer! Fancy fizzy grape or elderberry juice.

You said you don't like sweet, there are a couple of arabic squashes that I like. They make me drink more water than I would normally. They're a bit sweey but I make them reeeeeeally light. One is called jallab (with dates and rose water) and there's an apricot one

Oh and I substitute coffee for hot chocolate. I do get to sniff DH's coffee in the morning Blush

Superscientist · 06/06/2020 15:57

I drink fancy fruit cordial I like the Sainsbury's taste the difference elderflower, the belvoir raspberry and lemon or lime and mint one which tastes like moijito (I think Sainsbury's taste the difference again). I sometimes add fizzy water /tonic. I also quite like the flavoured fevertree tonics especially the aromatic one and occasionally fentamens curiosity cola if it's on offer.

I occasionally have to give up alcohol for health reasons it took a bit of trial and error to find what works for me. I started with lemonade and things but I found I drank them quickly and didn't really enjoy them so switched to things like shloer but found them a bit too sweet which was when I switched to cordial. I like having the option of having them flat or fizzy too.
