When did you/when do you plan to have the nursery finished?

I’m 28 weeks and have just started painting it... DH is working full time still so helps when he can and tells me not to do it but I like to think I’m a strong independent women

I feel like I’ve actually left it a little late as it’s soooo tiring but maybe that’s just me! I plan on having everything in place in there once the decorating is finished.

My question is when did you have the nursery finished? Or plan on having it finished?

We did ours when first baby was 4 months old. He was in our room until he was 7 months. We had a chest of drawers in the nursery for his clothes before he was born but didn’t buy a cot or do any decorating. Other than to get clothes I didn’t go in the nursery at all for months. There’s really no rush!

The baby should be sleeping in the room with you for about 6 months so there is no rush.

OP, there is no rush! I had my baby in a cot beside my bed until she was a year old. It’s so much more convenient for night feeds and reassuring for your baby to be able to smell and hear you at night, rather than being abandoned alone in another room.
Don’t tire yourself out decorating when pregnant, there’s absolutely no need.

DS is 8 months. His 'nursery' is still a dumping ground for all our crap.

We don't actually have a nursery as our house is tiny and our planned building work had to be cancelled - baby will be in a cot next to my bed for at least the first 6 months so we'll just have to figure something out nearer the time!

I think you're starting in plenty of time, don't worry! I always said I wanted the nursery ready for when baby was born just so everything was sorted and I didn't have to worry about it when they were actually here...
You'll have it ready in no time but like PPs have said , no worries if not , the baby won't be using it for a while.

We've just about finished ours, got the full cot up, dresser and changing mat etc and made it cute. But under no illusions our baby (33&4) won't be in there for months and months. But it made me feel better to do it and I like to have a place for everything, very much not a clutter person!

In her room is literally a dresser, in built wardrobes (though still mostly filled with my stuff), a rug and some shelves with pictures and a teddy on. Not painted the room any differently as was already a nice pale grey.

I finished mine by 32 weeks as I like to ch age the babies nappy in there when upstairs and also before and after bath time and also I like to use the cot of a day time for a day nap if am.upstairs or for a kick about or play in the cot so they get used to the cot so when they do go into there own room it isn't as much of a big trans9for them xx

I'm due in November and not planning on to April next year and move my boy to the big bedroom , baby's with my for 6 months so really no rush to do it x

I don’t think that’s a fair or helpful comment to make! We moved DD to her own room at 6mo like a lot of people do. She is now 6yo and knows completely that she has never been abandoned ever. If she needs us, we go to her or she can come to us.

OP, to actually answer your question, we had DD’s nursery ready a few weeks before she was due. I used her nursery to change her and store her clothes and toys. Expecting DD2 in September and plan to use the summer holidays (I’m a teacher) to sort out the nursery. I don’t think you’ve left it too late at all.

We had all the furniture in ready by the time I was about 8 months pregnant. But DD didn't go into the room itself until she was gone 6 months.

It's still not properly decorated though.

We didn't do ours until ds moved from sleeping in our room, which for us was when he was 9 months. I dont really understand the need to have it done before or start any kind of baby proofing before at least 6 months. It's just not necessary whilst they're so small

We’ve done our little girls and I’m 22 weeks, but it was already painted a neutral colour and had basic furniture (dressing table , chest door drawers , build in wardrobe and bedside table) as it was our main spare room, so all we had to do was get her cot bed and add some cute woodland wall stickers! So it’s been easier than if we were starting from scratch!

About 36 weeks - baby arrived at 38. I really liked having some where for all his clothes & nappies and by about 3 months he was having his early nap in there.

We haven't and ds is almost 10 months 🙈
We pretty much moved the spare room around a bit to accommodate a cot. It's still got 2 book cases and all of dh guitars and amps.

His cot is lengthways across the room acting as a sort of divider between ds space and mine and dh stuff.

He'll have his own room in the next house.

Our nursery didn’t get done until our son was about 7 months. Our house was a building site for a lot of his first year. It’s nice to have it done before but not always possible and not a necessity.

I did ours when he was a year old - he was in our room until then. I wanted to wait until I’d got to know him before decorating it, and also didn’t want to be around paint smells etc when I was pregnant.

DS1 we moved house at 36 weeks so started decorating at 38 weeks while DH was working. DS2 we had new carpets at 35 weeks so painted the week before (all bedrooms and landing, again while DH was working!). Hard work but I liked having them done before they arrived, they are both nice rooms to chill out in, feed in etc - plus I don't know when we'd have found the time in the first 6 months to get them done then!

We had our babies room finished when I was around six/seven months pregnant, whilst she wasn't sleeping in it for months, as a pp said it was a nice place to read, play, feed etc. I liked having all of her clothes organised and books and toys so I knew where everything was. I also knew we wouldn't find the time after she was born! Would definitely do the same again if I had another baby, it made me feel so much more prepared for her arrival.

I’m 36 weeks and still only halfway done getting the nursery ready. It’s playing on my mind a bit as for me it’s as much a ritual that helps me feel prepared (baby won’t move in there until 6 months but like PPs I will use it for nappy changes etc) as anything else. We made the decision to do it later this time so our older DD can have an extra room for homeschool. So right now it’s full of poster paint, glitter and junk modelling. But I will make a start next weekend, by which time I will be on mat leave...

I should say we had a room set aside for him and we kept his clothes in there with his chest of drawers, but we didn’t actually decorate it for him until he was 1.

Our nursery when baby was a newborn vs 6 months old. We didn’t even have the walls painted or furniture 😝

We didn’t finish our nursery fully until baby was 6 months , just in time for him to move in !

I’m a major procrastinator though and I was super busy with work while pregnant, as was my husband!

@Waiting1987 The baby does not need to sleep in their own room from 6 months. Dont know where this recommendation comes from- it's considered safe for the baby to move to their own room but this stage, but there is no need to/should involved. In some countries babies stay in parents room foer much, much longer as a matter of fact.

OP- our rooms was not finished until DD was 1 year old as we were redecorating the whole house. The move was swift and we had no issues, so whenever you finish and are ready will be fine.

I was painting our nursery at 39 weeks, I knew I didn't need to but I wanted to ready to be the 'dumping ground' at least. Glad I did as I would have found it hard to paint with a baby around!
