I’m 28 weeks and have just started painting it... DH is working full time still so helps when he can and tells me not to do it but I like to think I’m a strong independent women Grin

I feel like I’ve actually left it a little late as it’s soooo tiring but maybe that’s just me! I plan on having everything in place in there once the decorating is finished.

My question is when did you have the nursery finished? Or plan on having it finished?

Mine is a work in progress... I'm 31 weeks. I know we don't need it finished before the arrival but I like everything in its place. A nice
Chilled space to change baby, feed and read.

I never did finish hemming the curtains as he arrived a bit earlier than expected! My babies always slept in their own room from day one (no recommendation to share room with parents then). The nesting thing never happened for me but I remember getting gender neutral fabric for the curtains before we knew the sex at a Designers Guild warehouse sale so must have started decorating before 20 weeks.

@MonaLisaDoesntSmile that poster said babies should be in with you for 6 months, not that they needed to be in their own room from 6 months. I think you misread.

We’re not doing one. We’re keeping it as a spare room with king size bed in it as it is now for DH to go and sleep in if the baby keeps him up! Plan is for baby to be with us for probably at least a year, and we’re hoping to move before they’re 1, so baby will probably never have their own room in this house. If that changes we’ll just deal with it at the time

My baby is 7 months and we’ve not done it yet, we gave furniture in use but she is never in there.

Turns out we are cosleeping and this is likely to be for ages yet so we are actually going to do it as it a little girls room now and not so much a nursery so it lasts her longer. I can’t see her sleeping in there until she goes straight into a bed!

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 25/04/2020 10:28

@BuffaloCauliflower True! Re-read again, clearly despite it being 10:30 I am still not quite awake! ^^

Willow4987 · 25/04/2020 10:31

First baby it was done from about 35 weeks

Second baby is 10 weeks old and it’s still not done - mainly as it doesn’t really get used until they’re 6 months + and he will be having DS1s cot which is currently occupied so he’s only got his chest of drawers in there and I haven’t finished putting pictures up etc

Thekindyoufindinasecondhand · 25/04/2020 10:32

OP I'm envious, I'm like you I'd be wanting to get it done, even knowing it may not be used for 6 months. I'm just 25 weeks but our house move has been delayed now, I'm itching to get in there and make it nice for baby, pintrest boards it is for now Grin

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/04/2020 10:43

@MonaLisaDoesntSmile I think we can all relate!

I'm 24 weeks. The baby's room is currently set up as a spare room, but we don't need to repaint as it's already a nice yellow colour. DH has moved the double bed out and up into the loft room (previously a dumping ground), but we still need to figure out where we're going to put the desk and bookcase that are left in the room. We already have 2 chests of drawers to use in there, and we'll be picking up a third-hand cot from a friend when lockdown is over. We've already got a good chair for nursing in that can be moved in there if needed. So we're not actually buying any "nursery" furniture, just repurposing!

A neighbour sold us a cute set of hanging alphabet letters to put up on the wall, and I might keep an eye out for some wall transfers. But that's about it!

fedupandlookingforchange · 25/04/2020 10:56

Mines 2.5 and I'm 24 weeks with number 2 and I haven't bothered with a nursery.
A double bed is really useful as you can lay down with them and they go to sleep and then you sneak out.

Pineapplebaby · 25/04/2020 11:02

Whilst I know our baby won’t be in there for the first 6 months at least, our nursery was finished by 30 weeks ish. Most of our living space (including the bedrooms is on one level so we’ll be regularly using the nursery for changing etc. so wanted to make sure it was done. I was also bored and wanted to do it whilst I still had the energy - something I was sure I probably wouldn’t have with a newborn!
He’s not here yet though so the room does still have washing drying in it on a regular basis! 😂

twinkledag · 25/04/2020 11:04

I had mine done before baby was born - no time once they're here!!

Cherryrainbow · 25/04/2020 12:58

We are going to start sorting it out sometime after the 20 week scan. My man has cleared out the man cave for it haha. I know there's no rush as baby will be with us for a while, but

  1. It's something to do during lockdown/next few months
  2. We can store up baby stuff in there in the meantime
  3. It's something for me to get excited about. Been struggling with feeling blah the past few weeks
