Bleeding after TV ultrasound

First time I am using this forum. I am 7 weeks + 2 days pregnant (calculated from my LMP) and went for a private early scan today because I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks in Nov 2019.

The sonographer could see the yolk sac but she concluded I am 6 weeks preg by measurements and asked me to come back after 2 weeks.

As I got home and used the loo after 2 hours, my pants were soaking wet with the mucus (sorry, for TMI) and when I wiped I saw the blood on the tissue. I lost all hope there but went to bed after that to cope with my grief. When I woke up after 2 hours, I felt a little gush of blood come out and my pad did have more blood on it, I also saw a few clots when I wiped, but there has been no fresh blood after that.

I tried calling the hospital, but they asked me to call 111 which had 45 mins of waiting and then I hung up. It's weekend so no surgeries open.

I am just trying to clutch on to the last hopes here if anyone else had bleeding after a transvaginal scan and went on to have a healthy pregnancy? Or actually, if you think I have miscarried, let me know.

The same thing happened to me several times and the baby was fine.

It also happened after my six week postpartum check and I bled so much I had to go back to the hospital to be checked. It was all coming from the cervix and not the uterus. I wouldn’t have thought so much blood could come from there but it can.

@girlcalledJames oh that's reassuring. Thank you! Sorry to ask but did you pass any clots (dark red) as well along with the blood. That's what really scared me.

Loads. The clots were much bigger than the baby was supposed to be at that point. Old blood then new blood.
You can bleed a lot in a healthy pregnancy.

So I suppose I should go for another check-up in 2 weeks if I don't bleed again? I didn't bleed at all in my first pregnancy and DS is 2 now. The miscarriage a couple of months ago has really scared me. But I am so glad to hear your story. Little hopes for my sad heart. 💕

I went for scans each time (not in the UK) but probably not advisable in these times.
Don’t give up hope yet, 50% of bleeding in early pregnancy doesn’t end in miscarriage.

I had bleeding in this pregnancy after my tv scan at 6+5. Sometimes the probe can dislodge old pools of blood that are sat high up in your vagina (at least that's what was explained to me). Anyway, my dating scan showed a very active healthy baby and I'm now 13 weeks. So don't count yourself out yet. Lots of women bleed in pregnancy, I think the official figure is 1 in 4. It's understandably worrying but it's more common than you might think.

@eventhecathasapenis that’s very reassuring! May I ask did you see a HB at 6+ 5. She couldn’t give me a proper estimate of how far I am but calculated it at just under 6 although as per LMP I’m 7+3, but she couldn’t see a heartbeat. Just a yolk sac.

@moonchips yes I did see a HB; however, at 6 weeks it is pot luck whether or not you see one. I'm unfortunately a veteran of early tv scans as I've had a previous ectopic pregnancy so I'm scanned before 7 weeks every time. I've not seen a HB every scan either. It's horrible I know but the only thing you can do is wait. When they've not seen a HB they've rescanned me 14 days later to check and the HB always appears by then.

@moonchips I had my first scan when I should have been 7+5 according to LMP but baby only measured 6+1.
I'm now 23 weeks.

@sel2223 ah, I have heard these discrepancies are common. Hoping that's the case in mine as well. I'm glad for you. 🤗She couldn't give me a proper estimate even by measurements but said just under 6 weeks and no HB got me a little worried. Did you hear a heartbeat?

I did a clearblue digital test today and it says 'Not Pregnant' I suppose it was miscarriage then? :(

@moonchips I'm really sorry. It does seem a possibility but only another scan will confirm it or not. Is your next scan soon? Will you ask to be seen by your local epu?

@cherrybunx0 right now I don't have any other tests but I am assuming if at week 8 it says not pregnant, then I am not preg anymore :(

@eventhecathasapenis I have been trying to get a scan. I have informed the hospital but they will call me back because in current times they are not doing many scans. Although I'd prefer a scan at least to see what's going on in the body. Have I miscarried completely or not.

I had a little bit of hope left that maybe it was just unharmful bleeding but I feel shattered right now. It's my 2nd miscarriage in a row :(

you poor thing, it's the worst feeling, I had a mmc end of 2018 and it was horrendous. you definitley need to know what's going on so I wouldnt give up asking to be scanned, seems cruel to get you to wait.

there is a possibility the test was faulty, can be caused by the hook effect - makes me feel sad to say this rare though. dont give up hope until you know for sure though x

I really hope they can see you soon for a scan. This is not a scan out of preference, this is a need to know situation so you can be treated accordingly. I know it's awful, I've had several misscarriages too. All I can say is take it day by day x

I called the EPU but they said since my pregnancy test is negative they can't scan me. Shouldn't they check if everything is out of my system now? It was done last time when I miscarried.

I think they're being a bit naughty there because of covid. I was scanned after an MVA for a MMC in October to confirm nothing was left. I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I know it's not ideal but could you possibly go private for a confirmation scan?

yeah that doesnt sound right to me either, I know this isnt ideal either but could you say you've had a positive since on another test and are having a bit of pain? I wouldn't be happy with this situation and I know a lots going on right now but this would wreak havoc on my mental health not knowing x

A doctor from Whittington confirmed that they can't scan me. They basically just asked me to wait for my next period and try again after that. So they are 100% sure I have had a miscarriage without the scan! Although my midwife called me later (from the same hospital) and when I told her about my chat with the doctor she said I should still give her a call and update her after my scan.

I called another hospital's EPU and they managed to book a scan for me tomorrow at 2 pm.

A tiny part of me wants to stay hopeful but most likely it's a miscarriage otherwise a test won't say 'not pregnant' at 8 weeks, will it?

Good luck for tomorrow. I'm so glad you got to have a scan booked - it's a nightmare trying to get scans etc at the minute. I really hope everything's okay :( xxx
