Newborn or 0-3 months?

Almost 25 weeks and haven't bought clothing for baby. Now starting to panic as everything is selling out, I can barely find any newborn. Will I be ok with 0-3 months clothing?

We were told we were having a huge baby so only had 0-3. She arrived and was 6lbs12, but went down to 6lbs2. She was in tiny baby for about 2 weeks, newborn for 3 weeks. Up to a month for 3 weeks and then at 6 weeks old was in 0-3.

I found 0-3 months massive on my newborn, and he was over 8lbs. Legs were really long. I wouldn’t have wanted to go straight into them. That said, by 5-6 weeks, he’s outgrown newborn and was into them.

I’d suggest getting some cheap newborn baby grows for the first few weeks, on the assumption they will likely be outgrown quite quickly. Primark had some lovely soft baby grows which filled the gap quite nicely.

Get some newborn or up to one month stuff as a second hand bundle. You can find them easily on ebay and it can be posted to you. Leave the parcel unopened for a couple of weeks if you are concerned about virus exposure. Much cheaper than anything in the shops, although car boots are better for this I find.

Yup!

I brought two weeks worth of First size and new born.. just kept rewashing and re using .. she then went into up to 1 month clothing .. now 9 weeks and in 0-3 months /up to 3 months. But do whatever you can afford to do there only sick on them anyway haha good luck ! X

Mine was 56cm at birth and never fit into any newborn size clothing & I bought quite a bit because I'm short x

In my experience babies clothes are like adults clothes in the respect that the sizes vary (sometimes greatly) depending on where you get them from. My DS was born on the 98th centile for weight and above the 91st for height, but he fit into some of the newborn clothes for some time.

He's currently 8 months and grew out of his Morrison's outfit at 7.5 months, he's just starting to grow out of his Asda outfits and at 7.5 months only just fit into his Sainsbury's onesie's, but they're all 6-9 months.

I would perhaps get the same item of clothing in two sizes, and the rest I would judge by eye after that. We were lucky that friends & family bought a lot of clothes etc for DS and a lot asked what we needed, I just requested different sizes.

@allinit2gether - its def true for us. Baby due end of the month. We have had to order extra bits as family all due to fly out to us with baby gifts have had flights cancelled. Where we live all shops are closed and deliveries restricted. Everyone is in full lockdown so friends can't visit with baby items. First baby here. They will be unlikely to see family or many friends until 6+ months old let alone receive a babygrow.

allinit2gether · 05/04/2020 10:07

@Caspianberg I'm sorry you are having your first in these circumstances. I hope your friends and family surprise you with deliveries though - they have got plenty of time to choose something online and I wouldn't use corona as an excuse to forget. I didn't receive anything in advance of the baby being born) other than from work) so hopefully you will pleasantly surprised yet. My mum alone bought half of John Lewis. She died last year so I'm feeling her loss acutely with the impending new arrival. We won't get presents this year as it naturally dies off with second and third children (rightly) but I think you will yet.

allinit2gether · 05/04/2020 10:08

Actually I've just realised you may not be in uk so your circumstances may well be different. Sorry if so.

Caspianberg · 05/04/2020 10:12

@allinit2gether - yes not in UK. Deliveries not guarenteed etc.. but we shall see what happens

I think it’s worthwhile having a few items in newborn but if you’re expecting a particularly large baby then forget it. I had two ten lbers who didn’t fit in newborn at all!
