15 week gender reveal???

Hiya, so I’m looking for a bit of advice as a first time mummy.

So the place I had my early reassurance scan offers gender reveals from 15 weeks. Me being super excited (and also the way my weeks fall) I’m exactly 15 weeks on the 29th Feb so decided to book the gender reveal for then.

I know most gender reveals tend to say from 16 weeks but I’ve seen a few places offering from 15 weeks but has anyone had a 15 week gender scan? Did you have any issues finding out the gender or anything? Did everything go okay?

I shouldn’t feel skeptical because it is only a weeks difference but I’m so worried I’ll be disappointed if they say they can’t tell yet 🙈🙈🙈

And more to the point, I’d be happy no matter what we are having so I don’t know why I’m worried I might have to wait longer.... is it normal to just find things to just stress about? 😂😂

I had my gender scan at 14+6 and had it confirmed at 17 and 20 week scans.

He's a boy, I'm not sure if a girl would be quite as obvious so early though lol 😆

FreakyToes · 20/02/2020 20:06

I found out I was having a boy at 15+4 (confirmed at 20 week scan). Think it's easier to tell if it's a boy x

Dozer · 20/02/2020 20:08

They are scans to check the health of the baby.

ColloMama · 20/02/2020 20:46

Aw that’s amazing! Congratulations on your baby boy! And thank you, hopefully I can find out at 15 weeks then 😁😁😁

@Dozer it’s advertised as gender reveal though 🙈🙈 I mean even if they can’t find out I can always go back for another scan

I had a sex scan at 15+5 and hes male (confirmed at my 20 week NHS scan) although sometimes they cant tell the difference because the genitals are very similar at this stage. See if they offer a free rescan if they are unable to tell you?

lauryloo · 20/02/2020 20:51

I had one at 16+1 and they said it can be hard to tell. Baby was clearly a boy though. Confirmed at 20 week scan :)

ColloMama · 21/02/2020 09:09

@whiskersonkittenss not too bad then, yeah they do red and free of charge which is good 😊 hopefully they can see like

Do you have your 12-13 week scan you can post for us incase you have a nice clear nub showing:)

Dozer · 21/02/2020 10:12

That’s not great advertising practice, given that scans can show anomalies. It’s obviously great to find out the sex, of you want to, but not the main thing at all.

ColloMama · 21/02/2020 10:39

@dozer Well it doesn’t say just gender reveal, it is ‘Gender reveal and Health Scan’ so I wouldn’t go as far to say it’s bad practice... they are lovely, even I had my early reassurance scan they checked everything thoroughly, just as well as any NHS sonographer. They’re great which is why I decided to go with them.

Obviously being able to have a gender reveal is a bonus, it’s more because my partners parents and my parents are both eager to find out. On my side we’ve had all girls where on his side they’ve had all boys, so of course they’re excited to find out and I booked the scan as an opportunity for my mother in law to see her grandchild on the scans as they’ll only let one person into the NHS scans. My partner wanted to be there for my 12 week and 20 week scan and I didn’t want my mother in law to be left out.

@stairgates It’s weird on the scan! The scans are clear but I can’t tell with the little nub at the bottom whether they could be a boy or girl... I’m convinced I’m having a boy to be fair hahah

Can you post it for us, I would love to guess! and now you have me intrigued!

PepsiLola · 21/02/2020 11:42

I had an early gender scan with a girl, I can get the pictures out if you would like to see but it was very clear and obvious. I was around 15weeks

ColloMama · 21/02/2020 12:10

@stairgates I keep trying to upload but the app won't let me 😫😫😫 I'll keep trying, I'm intrigued to know what people think 😁😁😁

I went for my gender scan at exactly 16 weeks was a girl been confirmed at every scan since it's definitely a girl .

ChikiTIKI · 21/02/2020 14:10

I was offered to find out at a scan when 14 weeks plus about 2 days but declined. I ended up finding out by accident a few days later as it was in the report that came with the NIPT results.

TwittleBee · 21/02/2020 14:17

We had ours at 15+1 weeks and was very very clearly all boy!
I'd actually been having weekly scans and the NHS scan at 14+6 revealed we were having a boy, he didnt say for certain but he said he was pretty sure we were expecting a boy and oh my it was obvious to us too haha.

I'm sure they will have some sort of disclaimer saying they may not be able to find out the sex and even if they do it isnt 100% certain. I suppose the later on it gets the more accurate they can be, so they can tell you the sex at 15weeks but there might be a bigger margin of error or a higher chance of not seeing anything that at a 20 week scan or later.

PepsiLola · 21/02/2020 18:44

I think that's a boy, I don't fully know the nub theory (I tried to understand it recently but it went over my head), but it does look like a little boy to me.

PepsiLola · 21/02/2020 18:45

But... I went to my sexing scan with my youngest and went "oh it's another boy", and the scanner said "no it's a girl, her hands are between her legs" 🤦🏼‍♀️

Bobbiepin · 21/02/2020 18:47

@dozer the 20 week anomaly scan is to check the health of the baby, extra private scans are not done with a medical purpose. Whilst I would agree with your comment about a 20 week scan, the OP has booked an extra private scan for this reason.

Dozer · 21/02/2020 18:55

So if the sonographer saw a problem, they’d say nothing? They literally just look at the sex?

Confused
