Expected vs Actual Birth Weights

Hi all, just a curious post really.
Wondering what your babies expected birth weights were supposed to be and what they actually weighed when they arrived?

I am currently 39+1 and baby is currently measuring 8lb - will have to let you know if baby is under/spot on or over when s/he arrives - hoping it isn't the latter!

They said ds2 was going to be a healthy 8lber.
He was 10lb

That's the only one i remember

Branleuse · 04/10/2019 17:32

Ive actually never heard of these estimates being correct ever

FilthyPout · 04/10/2019 17:51

I was told ds would be around 9lb. He was 6lb7oz born day before due date

riotlady · 04/10/2019 17:57

DD expected to be over 10lbs, she was 7lbs 2

Frizzy1986 · 04/10/2019 18:00

Ds born this week was measuring on 50th percentile. Born on 79th percentile at 9lb 2oz

17caterpillars1mouse · 04/10/2019 18:03

Didn't know an expected weight for dd1

Dd2 expected to be 9.5lbs at term, was born at 38+3 at 6lb 9oz

She didn't actually get to 9.5lb until 12 weeks old

FriedasCarLoad · 04/10/2019 18:05

Expected: 7lbs 4
Actual: 7lbs 10

I was five days overdue, which would presumably have added weight.

fabbydabbydick · 04/10/2019 18:06

DS1 estimated as between 7lb and 8lb. Born 7lb 8 at 40+1.

DS2 estimated at 5lb (induced due to growth concerns). Born 6lb 2 at 37+3.

MrJellyBean · 04/10/2019 18:07

1.Expected 8lb
Actual 8lb 3

  1. Expected 9lb +
Actual 10lb 5
Bucatini · 04/10/2019 18:08

My friend was told her baby was very big - around 12lb - so she decided to have a c-section. He ended up around 9lb so she could probably have had a natural birth.

ChillyB · 04/10/2019 18:09

Expected 8lbs baby
He was 5lbs 9oz at 36 weeks

reginafelangee · 04/10/2019 18:11

First expected to be about 8 and a half pounds - was 10lbs 8oz

Second was spot on accurate

elliejjtiny · 04/10/2019 18:11

Dc3 was meant to be between 9 and 10lb. I said I thought he would be between 8lb 10 and 8lb 13. He was 8lb 12.

homley · 04/10/2019 18:43

@Branleuse, I have always heard they were often very inaccurate, was curious to see just how different the weights could sometimes be.

@riotlady, @ChillyB wow that is a big difference!

@elliejjtiny did you feel a little bit smug?

I was told at 36 weeks that baby was 6lb 6 so I felt quite pleased thinking she'll be over the weight mark as I had a slightly early ELCS planned at 38 weeks. Turns out she was only 5lb 9 at birth...a tiny little thing but perfectly healthy otherwise!

Countrygirl38 · 04/10/2019 19:10

My first was delivered 10 days early as they thought from the scan he was growth restricted and was 4lb. He was actually 5 lb 8

Billballbaggins · 04/10/2019 19:11

Mine were both low weights and the weight was only out by a couple of ounces compared to scan estimates both times

Thegirlhasnoname · 04/10/2019 19:13

DD was expected to be 10 - 11lbs. Born 7lb1oz (and required us to order some newborn clothes as we only had 1 set of them and lots of bigger ones but was in hospital for a week!)

Cantrip · 04/10/2019 19:16

Was induced at 37 weeks with my 1st, because they were convinced that she was “at least 10lbs”.

She was 7lb11oz 🙄

RanchoRelaxo · 04/10/2019 19:16

Growth scan at 37 weeks said baby was 6lb 14oz, she was born at 38 weeks 6lb 7oz, so not too far off

vroc81 · 04/10/2019 19:16

The rudest consultant informed me she’d be huge “at least 9lb” (due to the cornflakes I hadn’t eaten during pregnancy 😂) she was 6lb13 at 40+12... not convinced she was 40+12 she wasn’t overbaked either.

jamesbluntssupermodels · 04/10/2019 19:18

Expected: 6lb
Actual: 9lb 10oz..

It was..interesting Grin

AshOutside · 04/10/2019 19:18

Expected: 8lb
Actual: 9lb11 and 6 days overdue

ruralcat · 04/10/2019 19:20

DD1 predicted at 8lbs5 (ish), arrived hours later at 8lb12.

DD2 can't remember predictions but I'm pretty sure she was under.

GracefulHare · 04/10/2019 19:31

I was warned dd1 was going to be big, around 10lb. I had weekly scans from 36 weeks & started to worry as I'm quite petite. When I asked about labour I was told that "small women could do amazing things!" Hardly reassuring! Anyway, had a normal birth & dd weighed 7lb 15oz, not huge at all!
