Anyone had a pulmonary embolism??

Babybee88 · 17/06/2019 20:48

I'm 27 weeks pregnant and for the last few days I've been feeling a bit breathless. When I sit down I feel quite winded, like something is pushing on my chest and I have to catch my breath. I had just been thinking it's "one of these pregnancy things" (which it probably is!) but I've just remembered that a couple of weeks ago I had a really bad pain in my calf that stayed for 3 or 4 days after a long car journey. I was a bit worried at the time about a pulmonary embolism but when the pain went away I didn't think any more of it until now and wondering if the breathlessness could be linked to that? Does anyone know how long it takes for a blood clot to travel from the leg to lungs? I'm probably just being very paranoid Blush but wondering if I should see a GP tomorrow. Any advice much appreciated!

You need to ring 111 now please don't mess about with this I don't mean to scare you but my friend had a heart attack aged 27 a few months ago due to this. He survived but was touch and go please ring them because you don't mess about with them x

piperk · 17/06/2019 20:53

@anitagreen i mirror what you say. Don't waste time posting on here PEs are not to be messed with. Get checked out xx

NCBabyBoy · 17/06/2019 20:56

Please call your labour ward or 111 right now. It cannot wait until tomorrow. Make sure you tell them exactly what you wrote here and mention you are concerned about a PE. They can and do kill!

notapizzaeater · 17/06/2019 20:56

Absolutely you really need medical advice quickly.

Mamabear12 · 17/06/2019 20:57

I agree, esp if you have had pain your chest as well. Call 111 or your midwife.

Runkle · 17/06/2019 21:02

Please get seen, no one will mind checking you over with those symptoms.

PoppadomPeach · 17/06/2019 21:06

PE killed my mother. Get checked, do not delay.
Please.

anitagreen · 17/06/2019 21:06

@PoppadomPeach Really sorry to hear that Thanks

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 17/06/2019 21:07

Almost died just over a year ago from a huge PE caused by a blood clot in my leg - surgery induced, but as you probably already know pregnancy can also be a provoking factor. Please please get yourself checked out.

NCBabyBoy · 17/06/2019 21:11

@BabyBee88 please update us if you can Flowers

Babybee88 · 17/06/2019 21:44

Thanks everyone, I phoned 111 and going into hospital now to get checked out. I'm probably just being paranoid but better to be safe than sorry.

CuppaTeaAndAJammieDodger · 17/06/2019 22:05

PoppadomPeach · 17/06/2019 22:29

@anitagreen Thanks

PoppadomPeach · 17/06/2019 22:31

And Op, you're doing the right thing.
Much better to get checked out and it be nothing - which it most likely is!

I'm sorry for being a bit sharp before - hearing those symptoms sends my blood cold.

Good Luck and come back to update us when you can x

Babybee88 · 17/06/2019 23:43

I've had some blood tests and I've to get an ECG and a couple of x-rays. Thanks everyone for being so lovely Flowers

How are you doing today OP? Hope you're ok.

piperk · 18/06/2019 09:57

Glad you went straight there. Keep us update hope all is ok x

Isitfridayalready · 18/06/2019 10:01

Glad you went in and hope all is well. Was just coming on here to say that one of my grandparents died of a PE because the silly bugger didn't want to bother with a doctor. It's not something to mess with.

Babybee88 · 18/06/2019 10:16

Just a wee update, still in hospital waiting on a leg scan but all looks okay so far, ECG and chest x-ray were fine so hopefully it's nothing!

Hope you're ok OP?

Babybee88 · 18/06/2019 21:47

@Dec2019mumtobe I'm ok thanks, still in hospital, they're doing a VQ scan tomorrow which will be able to see any clots in the lungs so fingers crossed that'll be okay. Just want to get home but it's good they're being thorough.

Fingers crossed for you xxx

1984isHappeningNow · 18/06/2019 21:54

Glad to hear they are being thorough! I had a VQ which identified my PE. Mine was after an emergency C section. They can't be too careful.

Good luck! I hope it's all clear for you x
