I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

Teddy I don’t have the bottle eal has but I love my chilly bottles. Honestly, last summer in that huge heatwave I’d put chilled watear in the bottle, have the bottle in a baking hot car all day and the water would still be from the fridge cool at the end I forgot the day. They currently have a half price sale (which is very rare) of some of their pretty pattern bottles if you go on the link and give them your email for a code. I bought about 5 bottles yesterday for us and for gifts yesterday as they were down to £12.50. I’m definitely taking mine into hospital when I have dd so I can have decent chilled water not the warm hospital water.

Trying to decide if I can brave Asda today to get some bits.... didn’t sleep well last night which is usually followed by a bad day but wondering if I feel ok this morning to give it a go. Might see how I am as I get up.

Reastie · 06/03/2019 07:34

Meant to add eal poor you wit more bleeding.

Lucinda a friend of mine recently told me that she had read some people find theirs migraines reduce when they go on a diet to put their body in ketosis. I’m a bit dubious but it made me instantly think of ketosticks Wink

cattaxi · 06/03/2019 07:47

Hope you are ok this morning @eallison88. It must be so worrying when the bleeds come.
I am also a big klean kanteen fan.

Rubbish night here. I think I’m getting some pregnancy insomnia. If something wakes me up, I just can’t get back to sleep. Ds is going through a phase of waking lots. Only for a few minutes, but it’s enough to throw me off. And last night it was dh’s snoring. I think I only got about 2.5 hours before ds was up for the day again. Gah! My brain just goes into overdrive & the nausea ramps up too.

Hope everyone has a good day - I’m planning on being comatose on the sofa!

Reastie · 06/03/2019 10:46

Cattaxi I hate pregnancy insomnia! I was up at 4 am this morning for nearly 2 hours. Just managed to get back to sleep then it was time to wake up!

Well, I managed to get to Asda! Big thing for me as haven’t been out in a couple of weeks. Unfortunately I didn’t realise it was market day next to Asda and the assault on the senses was tough going. Had to walk past the burger ban frying onions, the fish stall, people smoking, the chemical smell of new clothes. Honestly, I don’t even notice this stuff usually but it made it quite a challenge! Got dd her costume for the school play and also treated her to a brushed cotton bed set (as she loves the softness of mine so much and it really helps me sleep so I thought she’d like it) and found a baby names book in a charity shop for 30p! So it was successful I’m just crossing fingers the recovery from it isn’t bad.

Currently have dds new bedding on a quick wash before it goes on the bed and hoping I can get it dry (we don’t have tumble drier) and on her bed as a surprise before she gets home from school.

ElkieMacjibe · 06/03/2019 15:36

@TeddyReddy thanks for the ondansetron info, really interesting! I am taking it now and seeing improvements although did get a migraine today which was terrible. Probably caused by my son being awake from 2 til 5 last night 😫

1potato · 06/03/2019 16:19

@reastie. Thank you for the call suggestion. It worked a treat for the migraine and I was back to my usual nauseous self by the evening!

1potato · 06/03/2019 16:21

@lucinda I messaged a chiropractor today so thank you for the tip.

avacadooo · 06/03/2019 18:25

@eallison88 you are a genius, I've got the doctor next week so I'll mention it to her cause I can't even sleep without waking up screeching. I would wait for my midwife but she's as useful as a chocolate teapot and would ignore it like everything else.

LucindaE · 06/03/2019 18:26

1Potato I do hope the chiropractice really helps.
cattaxi Oh no: OH snoring, and LO sleepwalking. I hope you get a better night tonight, when rest and sleep is so important.
ElkieMacjibe I am sorry about the migraine. That is awful. As below, I did find chiropractic wonderful for migraine - but horribly expensive. It is interesting that a fair number of sufferers can only stomach icy drinks.
Reastie That is so weird; maybe it applies to some? I know that a starvation is a migraine trigger for many. I am glad you braved ASDA.
Oh dear to frying onions; they smell wonderful when one is in full health, but...
TeddyReddy Good reassurance for ElkieMacjibe.
avocadoo I believe I forgot to sympathise about coffee horrors and bleeding nose.

I hope everyone is coping today.

eallison Goodness, I missed that about that alarming bleed. This really is horrible for you, even if they are offering reassurance.

eallison88 · 06/03/2019 18:38

I'm feeling very sorry for myself this evening. The nausea is ramping back up, which is worrying. There were signs of a UTI when I was in hospital, but no symptoms so they were reluctant to prescribe antibiotics (which I was happy with). However, on reflection, I didn't have symptoms last time I had a UTI, and the UTI was the main reason behind me endingup dehydrated and needing overnight admission and fluids the last time I was admitted. So I'm going to try and get an appointment with a decent GP tomorrow/Friday to talk about that again.

I've also decided that I'm gonna complete a couple of projects at work (should get them done by the end of my 2 hours on Monday, so 2 hours tomorrow and 2 on Monday) then I'm going to take a week off and do nothing. See if that settles everything back down again.

reastie well done on Asda! It amazes me how many smelly stimulants there are around that we simply don't notice the majority of the time.

Reastie · 06/03/2019 19:04

Eal maybe a uti is causing the nausea return?

Lucinda it’s weird about migraine triggers isn’t it. I guess it’s a case of finding what works for you.

Had a rubbish afternoon with nausea, felt very down, but think it was related to needing a bm —again—

ElkieMacjibe · 06/03/2019 20:57

eallison hope you get some uti answers, I didn't know it could add to nausea, good to know. Hope you can have a restful evening.

So I have joined the ondansetron constipated club 🙈 I think it's been 3 or 4 days despite me starting the lactulose. It's so weird, I have absolutely no desire to 'go', is that normal?! See what happens tomorrow but might go get some movicol. I really haven't eaten much so hoping there isn't too much to worry about iyswim!

Redskyandrainbows67 · 06/03/2019 22:08

Eal - utis are linked to premature labour so I would go back to the dr tomorrow and ask them for antibiotics or a reassurance you def don’t need them. They should have sent off the sample when you gave one not just dipped it so they might have this result back by tomorrow.

Was it white blood cells or protein in your urine? Did they check your blood pressure to also screen for pre eclampsia?

eallison88 · 06/03/2019 22:22

Blood pressure done every time I've been in - it's alwaysbon the low end as that's what my blood pressure always is. Not sure exactly what she found in my urine "some blood" was mentioned. Will push with GP tomorrow. Thanks ladies. Sleep well all

Redskyandrainbows67 · 06/03/2019 22:36

The blood could just be traces left from when you were bleeding?
Def go to dr tomorrow and push for reassurance.
Sending you Flowers and wishing you feel a bit better tomorrow.

eallison88 · 06/03/2019 22:57

Unfortunately there's more very slight bleeding again tonight. I think perhaps I just need to resign myself to the fact that I bleed now as well.

Redskyandrainbows67 · 06/03/2019 23:10

Hope you can rest eal - it sounds like you are having a bloody awful pregnancy. If you can get through it I promise you that crap pregnancies make the best babies. You are due a super star baby/toddler.
Maybe plan to rest a bit and then go to dr first thing?

beanhunter · 07/03/2019 08:41

@eal - they should have sent your urine off if there was anything in it. I would phone them and ask - might save a gp trip?

LucindaE · 07/03/2019 18:05

Like others, I am sorry that eallison has more bleeding and a possble uti. eallison That idea about taking a rest sounds like a fine idea.
Redskyand rainbows That is a very nice prediction about angelic babies from the worst of pregnancies. ElkieMacjibe I hope the lactulose works soon. How are you managing with liquids? Some find that tinned peaches are a good laxative.
Waves to Reastie and everyone.

Thinking of you @eallison88 and hope you get some good news and feel better soon x

beanhunter · 07/03/2019 19:06

I’m so fed up. I just don’t know how long I can do this for. Vomiting as badly today as at the beginning. And bile. I feel so broken.

Blii · 07/03/2019 20:41

Ah beanhunter Sad you’re due next month arnt you? Not long to go! You’ve come this far, you’ve got this Smile

I had my midwife appointment today, I’m 17 weeks and she found protein in my urine. She didn’t seem too concerned just asked me if I have any uti symptoms, which I don’t. I’m not sure if I should be worried about protein or not Confused.
I have to have yet another blood test, the hospital keep losing my results, they’ve lost them twice now. The results that did come back from January say my iron is very very low and circled in a big red circle is platelets which are also very low.
So I’ve come away from my midwife appointment a bit confused. She never mentioned the platelets though.

Hope everyone is ok.

eallison88 · 07/03/2019 21:20

The GP sent my sample off today, but also gave me a prescription for antibiotics which she recommended taking without waiting for the results of the urine test. I also found out, from a call from the antenatal clinic at the hospital that a swab from 28th (when I was in for a bleed) that ibjave thrush. They had asked my GP surgery to a sort a prescription for me but they'd refused as they hadn't done the swab. So I have to go to the antenatal clinic tomorrow to pick up a prescription for that. So thats a fun little trip for tomorrow.

beanhunter I'm so sorry you're being so sick again. That sucks.

blii a confusing midwife apt is the last thing you need, you poor thing. Sorry you've been left with more questions than answers. And that they keep losing your blood test results!!

Reastie · 08/03/2019 07:37

Oh bean, poor you. Is it the viruses making it worse? Have you got all the medication you need?

Blii I just googled protein in urine and it came back a small bit is usually fine but more can indicate an infection eg uti or later in pg preeclampsia (but I’m pretty sure that needs extra markers too like high bp). Maybe it was just a tiny amount?

Yesterday afternoon was a bad afternoon but very generally last couple of weeks have generally been a bit better. I think this is as good as I’m going to get Confused although it coukd just be related to doing less...
