I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.
It has been suggested that I add some practical tooth cleaning advice: a lot of sufferers find using a child's small toothbrush and strawberry toothpaste far less nauseating.
On my image of a pink castle: that is an image I use because when I was little, my family had a Snakes and Ladders board with an image on the last square of a pink castle in the clouds. As Hyperemesis is so like a grotesque version of Snakes and Ladders - eat a meal, go up a ladder, first thing in the morning bile run, down a snake - I have used the image of that pink castle on the last square of that Snakes and Ladders board as a metaphor for the happy end of Hyperemesis.

nailsathome How lovely to hear from you. If you can send any picture of your twins, I'd love to see it. Thank you so much for your encouraging message, which sums it all up.
PseudocideBlonde Welcome. As you took the MAP, with luck , as Reastie and others say, it was that that caused the hormonal imbalance and sickness. I hope all is well with you. I am not surprised your mind forgot the horrors of Hyperemesis...
eallison Good news that baby has decided to delay the appearance.
cattaxi Thinking of you. I know they can often get the measurements wrong, but that's easy for me to say.
DeadDoorPost Congratulations on going without meds for so long. That is really a good sign.
Waves to everyone.

@LucindaE we're going to need a new thread soon

LucindaE · 14/04/2019 21:36

DeadDoorPost Very true. Don't worry; I'm keeping an eye on it. I usually let it go to 985 posts or so, so perhaps in a couple of days time?

Hi everyone

Just wanted to let you all know I gave birth to a healthy girl (6lb) last week at 38 weeks. I suddenly developed pre eclampsia (only caught at a routine appt too!) and was induced 2 days later as my blood pressure was okay but they were concerned it was about to go sky high - which it did. it wasn’t the best induction and I’m still abit sensitive about the birth in general (it was a forceps delivery, they wanted to do a C Section but it was too late) I don’t remember much just certain parts i.e loads of people in the room and my daughter not crying immediately (which apparently is common - not like the movies eh?) the sickness stayed right to the bloody end aswell! I was on a drip shortly after being induced due to projectile vomiting and still being sick during labour itself - I managed to catch the poor student midwife right in the face with splash back as it was that brutal! Blush My kidneys were dry, so had more fluids & spent 6 days in hospital (I’ve had a few other complications). The doctors and midwifes were brilliant tho. Not quite the pregnancy or labour I thought I’d have for my first, but she’s healthy so that’s all what matters.

The one thing I’m thrilled at is no longer feeling sick or having my head down the loo which certainly felt like a second home. It really does just disappear. Thank you so much for all your advice, encouragement & kindness throughout my pregnancy. I hope you all feel better & you too can enjoy feeling human again!! X

P.s forgot how good it was to NOT take movicol / laculose everyday just to poo normally Smile

Reastie · 15/04/2019 07:40

Anya massive congrats, I’m glad you’re now feeling sick free and they found the pre e. Sounds like it was a tricky birth but it’s all over now and you survived! Can I ask if you had ondansetron during labour via iv as one of the drugs? If so did you have to continue with movicol post delivery before things were normal with bms? I’m going to be on ondansetron up to and including my actual csection and am worrying about post csection constipation and continuing movicol after birth and for how long etc.

eallison88 · 15/04/2019 08:18

Congratulations anyat! I had been wondering about how you were, having no heard for a while. Sounds like a dramatic and eventful pregnancy! But, as you say, no more puking or needing help to poop is always a winner. I hope you're now getting time to enjoy bonding with and learning all about your beautiful baby. Enjoy sleepy newborn snuggles!!

ElkieMacjibe · 15/04/2019 10:33

Congrats @Anyat212 so lovely to hear!

Today is my return to work (from home, afternoon only). Got a few hours to get in the right head space. Also have to pop to doctors this afternoon as work insisting dr signs off on me coming back (seems pointless to me but hoping I can get some more medication so it isn't a wasted trip!).

Also I think I spotted one of you today as a babipurian. That might not mean much to anyone else but I am a fellow lover of the wooden rainbow 🌈 😀

eallison88 · 15/04/2019 10:47

That may have been me elkie!!

ElkieMacjibe · 15/04/2019 11:07

@eallison88 well I didn't want to out you but I thought so!! Hope baby is being well behaved and staying put today

Anya212 · 15/04/2019 11:31

Thank you eal and Elkie Smile it has been dramatic feels like this week has flown by. Good luck to you both!

Reastie - I had Cyclizine quite a few times but I’m sure that was making me worse (it did earlier in my pregnancy causing me to more sick when I took them orally) so they did give me ondansetron, I think I was in too much of a state to question what they were giving me initially! I also had one ondansetron orally a day later as I went all hot and cold, shivering and felt really sick, I was nervous taking this as I thought I’d struggle to go. I managed to go 4 days after giving birth without taking movicol/lactulose/suppositories which were packed in my hospital bag just in case! I was hooked up to a Catheter for 2 days so bed ridden just drinking loads and loads of water. I’m not sure if that played a huge part or if I was just lucky. Hope everything goes well with you & you don’t get backed up!

nailsathome · 15/04/2019 13:27

Oh also I forgot to say I have a few urine test sticks left which test for ketones as well as some other stuff. I'm happy to pop them in the post if anyone would like them. Just send me a pm Smile

beanhunter · 15/04/2019 15:10

Congratulations anyat
@reastie - I had iv ondansetron post delivery - was having a synto drip for a big bleed and it can make you nauseated so I asked preemptively.
Have taken lactulose since but guys pretty much back to normal day 4/5

beforeIhit30 · 15/04/2019 17:28

Congratulations anya Flowers hope you’re feeling well and recuperating, and enjoying newborn snuggles!

Hello all, some names new to me Smile I hope everyone is as well as they can be.

Saw midwife today but apparently should have seen them after my scan (20 week scan is later this week) so they’re seeing me again in a couple of weeks, I think it’s mainly so I have the opportunity for a post-scan chat. Blood pressure is low (which would explain why I kept being on the verge of passing out today Confused) but they’re not worried. Midwife also said, “So it looks like you want to opt for induction at 39 weeks?” Grin clearly my enthusiasm has indeed translated through my consultant’s notes. We discussed my reasons (she wasn’t critical, just asking me about my preferences etc) and by the end she said she could absolutely understand why I would prefer it, which is always nice to hear, you don’t want someone trying to dissuade you on something which is well within your realms of decision-making power. Looks like I have another UTI (sigh), I’m not surprised, I don’t have any symptoms but I didn’t last time either, I’m just wary of the neon pee tablets!

LucindaE · 15/04/2019 17:57

Anya212 Happy news. That sounds like a grim birth experience, but I am so happy for you that you were one of the overwhelming majority who find the sickness vanishes like magic. Flowers Smile Brew Cake Star.
beanhunter That sounds bad. Did you have to have a transfusion?
eallison I hope all is uneventful with you.

ElkieMacjibe · 15/04/2019 18:26

Had a genuinely good GP appointment today. I was only going to get a note saying I can work on a limited basis and he offered to listen in to the baby heartbeat to make me feel better about being ill ❤️

cattaxi · 15/04/2019 20:18

Thanks @LucindaE & @eallison88.
The procudure went well. It wasn’t too uncomfortable and the consultant was happy with the sample collected. 2/3 weeks for full results is going to be a killer.

I didn’t take any cyclezine this morning as I wanted to not be drowsy. That, combined with the long car journey has left me feeling pretty sick.

Waves to everyone else. I’m not going a great job of keeping up. Many congratulations on the new arrivals.

How is it going at the hospital @eallison88? I hope you are managing to get some decent food & that ds isn’t finding it too tough. I also love a bit of babi Pur!

eallison88 · 15/04/2019 20:28

beforei I've had a few UTIs in this pregnancy with no symptoms, they're killers . Do keep an eye tho, as they can have an awful impact on the HG (remember my Christmas admission!).

cattaxi I'm glad things went as well as could today. That is a long wait, but I'm sure it won't actually feel as long as it does right now. I hope a good night's sleep settles the nausea again.

Another uneventful day with baby (hurrah!). So another day cooking. Had a couple of good chats with docs today about induction and other things, so feeling a little calmer on that front. Food seems to be getting better, but still a bit hit and miss. It's gonna be tricky next week when hubby is back at work. But not insurmountable! We'll just have to be even more organised, and I'll just have to be slightly less picky with my demands from him! Our son is still doing amazingly well, I'm so proud of him. There's obviously a lot going on in his head that he's not really verbalising (Tho he is certainly talking about stuff and asking questions) as he's more tired than usual despite getting same amount of sleep. But considering the situation he's being brilliant. I really miss him tho. And hubby.

beforeIhit30 · 15/04/2019 23:32

Thanks eallison it all sort of ties together, may contribute to explaining why I feel so rubbish sometimes! They’ve sent off for analysis and I’m seeing consultant in two weeks and midwife in three weeks so will be able to check again then. I am now very aware of my pee! Good to hear baby is still cooking Grin

cattaxi Hugs and Flowers for you, we had an anomaly on a scan with DC2 and had to go for all sorts of tests, I know it can feel like ages. If you can indulge in whatever you enjoy, favourite films, books, whatever you love and can manage.

Reastie · 16/04/2019 07:37

Cattaxi glad it went well, fx for the results.

Eal when I was in hospital for a week having dd the mws took pity on me and let me use their staff fridge and microwave as the hospital weren’t giving me anything I could eat. Might be worth seeing if you can do similar as that might make it easier for your dh next week to drop in a couple of days food for you at a time.

Thank you bean and anyat.

Elkie glad the gp apt was good.

norbert23 · 16/04/2019 20:06

Good news that the test went well @cattaxi it must have been really difficult, let's hope Easter and game of thrones can make the time pass by more quickly so that you're not waiting too long.
I just got back from 3 days away with my dad and brother so it's been lovely and exhausting all at the same time. It's also lessened the guilt of jan - March where my girlie was just watching me puke and lie in bed (nursery tomorrow though and a day to do nothing for me!)
Congratulations to everyone with snuggly new babies xxx

LucindaE · 16/04/2019 21:10

I will have to start a new thread probably either tomorrow or the day afterwards.
ElkieMacjibe I am so glad that thoughtful GP gave you that treat.
cataxi That does seem a dismal waiting time. Perhaps they have given you an outside time? Great advice from beforeiit30 and norbert about some ways to endure it.
norbert I am so pleased you had a nice time with brother and father. Being away can make such a difference, somehow.
eallison Good that all is quiet with baby. I am happy that LO is coping fairly well.
Reastie Good idea for eallison about using the hospital fridge!
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

DeadDoorpost · 16/04/2019 21:14

Still managing without meds for the most part. I've found that as long as I manage to eat something I can battle the nausea, but smells are now starting to cause a problem.

Baby also seems to be kicking a lot more than DS did but that may be because I don't have an anterior placenta this time.

Has anyone had problems with feeling gassy? I feel incredibly bloated all the time and don't seem to be able to let rip as much as I feel I need to. It's very uncomfortable. It may just be my uterus expanding, but I don't remember having this problem 2 years ago with DS...

eallison88 · 16/04/2019 23:02

deaddoorpost so much gas and wind over here! You are not alone!! No suggestions as to how you can elleviate it either (o6her than the obvious, but sometimes it's trapped and impossible Hondo anything with... that hurts!! I honestly thought I was having a heart attack at one point cos it hurt so much!)

Another uneventful day! If I have an uneventful night tonight I get some day release!! Fingers crossed...

cattaxi · 16/04/2019 23:19

Thanks everyone for the good wishes.
@LucindaE we should get the first part back pretty quickly. But with the 2 bank holidays, it will be Tuesday at the earliest. And the rest within 2/3 weeks. I think the bank holidays have added a 2 working day delay. But yes, I’m hoping she was being over conservative & we find out sooner.

@norbert23 dh & I have just started got a few weeks ago. Only on season 2, so plenty to keep us busy. But it’s hard to keep it up as the 13 year old stays up later now we are on school holidays and it’s definitely not suitable for her!

I tried without cyclezine today. I wanted to feel any nausea as I thought it would help reassure me that baby is still ok. Well, boy have I been reassuringly sick! Gave up and took one tonight as I haven’t kept any food or much drink down. I was hoping to go back to work soon, but still feel very drowsy on them, so no Ida how I’ll manage that.

Yes, yes to being extra gassy @DeadDoorpost. It seems to be getting worse every day 💨

Will look out for the new thread @LucindaE.

I hope everyone has a restful night, especially our new mums and those in hospital xx
