Older mum to be !!!!

Hey I have just found out I’m 5 weeks pregnant , i have 2 children already , I’m a older mum too 43 😱 although I feel 23 sometimes lol just wondered if anyone else is out there who might be a slightly older mum to be and we can chat and compare etc ! X

I am soon to be 41, first baby due in June. I too don't feel 41, but my body disagrees at times :-)

I had my number 4 just before I was 45! He is 4 now

I had ds at 43!! Previous ds at 37.

J43mum all I can say is the hospital was great. The only real issue is that you will be immediately high risk due to age alone. All my tests put me at a 4:1 risk of having a baby with a chromosoamal abnormality. Ended up getting an invasive test and he is perfect.

Soon to be 41 and 11 weeks here with my first! Certainly didn't plan to do this so late but that's the way life goes. I've been told I have to be seen by a consultant but it's not booked in til 20 weeks, is that normal?

Perfectly normal cookiewaffle but you probably won't actually be seen by the consultant unless you have a specific problem. I am 42 and found that at my first "consultant" appointments, I was actually just seen by a registrar in the consultant's team. However later on, when I developed some.complicatioms, I was then seen by the consultant.

Just turned 41 here and currently 17+4 pregnant for the first time with twins. My age hasn't even been mentioned by any midwife as being a factor, with the exception of it being a tick box on the pre-eclampsia rush checklist (I was high risk category anyway due to it being my first pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy so age literally hasn't been a factor so far).

@Cookiewaffle - I've also been referred to consultant led care due to the twin pregnancy, and my first appointment is also at 20 weeks - that's normal.

I was 45 when I had last baby after a 21 year gap. I opted for an amniocentesis. All was fine. Only problem was high blood pressure towards the end . Baby was induced but refused to come out so I had a c section.
My baby is now a strapping teenager! I was more tired possibly than with my older children but of an age where I did not miss my social life as much. My only problem was I had no friends of a similar age with young children but older mothers are much more common now. He has certainly kept me young!

Thanks ladies :) I was told by my midwife that because of my age I needed to be seen more regularly and under a consultant. Though they didn't seem that worried by my age. The EPU even told me 40 is the new 30!

@gambaspilpil what is a invasive test ? I have been told because I have high blood pressure that I might be seen more often , I have booked a private early scan just to get dates etc if they can because I am a little confused as I have had a period ! But this week I feel fine !

I had the CVS. Not the most pleasant test but got the results within two days. I had extra checks throughout my pregnancy as I had a big bleed at 11 weeks which ended up being one of the arteries to the placenta rupturing. Saw consultants throughout and had placental scans every 4 weeks

Should add that there is the harmony test now which is just a bloody test. However results take around 2 weeks. I just wanted to know quicker as I was already 12 weeks

I’m not sure what these tests are , I’m out of the loop my children are 14 and 10 so I guess a lot has changed

I opted for no extra testing. Not even nuchal - though they did tell me it was fine anyway!
I had a consultant as have had multiple dc and a rare blood group.

@ crittertamer hi congrats on your pregnancy ! do you know if you can have the harmony test when you are pregnant with twins ?

22 weeks with my first and age 40 here. Everything has been straightforward so far, have consultant appointment in a few weeks but told it's likely they'll just check me over and discharge me back to midwife led care as no other complications.
Only issue has been anxiety (of it all going wrong).
40 is not unusual anymore and didn't phase the midwives at all.

I am 40 and currently 28w pregnant. There were a few oldermums on the due in April thread so i set up a FB group for over 40's. Just two of us in it so far (and great fun comparing consultants!) but if anyone else wants to join, DM me x
