The bleeding itself is not necessarily a sign of m/c, no - lots of women bleed slightly in the first trimester, around six to eight weeks.

As MiF says, bleeding is suprisingly common. I had it myself for quite a few weeks - brown spotting and one day with a lot of red blood. I'm now 22 weeks and getting more vast every day. If you get more bleeding or are concerned go to your nearest hospital early pregancy unit for a scan which should be able to tell you if all is OK. At six weeks I got to see a bean (a human bean!) with a beating heart, which was wonderful.

Hi all
Have heard so many encouraging stories but fear the worst for myself. I have been bleeding bright red blood for 6 days now. The first 4 days were spots of blood the last 2 slightly more. I am 6 weeks pregnant and the doctor has booked me in for an early scan next tuesday. It has been a horrible horrible week - always checking my underwear, praying etc.
Has anyone out there bled for this length of time?
Not sure whether I am going to miscarry. I am not so worried of miscarrying now as I am of a pregnancy where I will be worrying everyday if I am going to miscarry. I want a healthy baby, like everyone else. I did not know I was preg initially and still went to the gym and did situps. Last fri when the bleeding started I had been expecting guests and had cleaned the house top to bottom, vacuuming etc.
I hope I have not brought this on myself!

I had this with DS2 at a similar time. I would bleed bright red for 3 days and then not for 4 days, then blood for 3 days, none for 4 and it stopped. There was no cramping or clots with this. Never knew what it was but DS2 was a healthy baby.

Aanyasmum, please don't think you have done this to yourself for even a second. Going to the gym or doing the hoovering are normal activities and should not ever endanger a pregnancy that was not already in trouble in any case.
Hope Soupdragon's experience has reassured you a little. I did have some red bleeding with my pregnancies but not for six days tbh. EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT though and I have my fingers crossed for you for next week. Take care....

I too bled with my first at about the same stage at 6, 8 and 10 weeks. On each occasion I bled bright red for about two days which then diminished to brown crud (sorry . I worried terribly, but made it through to the end to see DD who was perfectly OK. Incidentally, my second pregnancy was nothing like my first and I didn't bleed at all (Just had terrible sickness that time ).
I really hope that you have some good news

Thank you all for your kind words. I am keeping my fingers crossed for next tuesday.
I will let you know what happens next week. Will probably need some support and cyber hugs.

Bye A

Aanyasmum,I had 2 episodes of bright red bleeding with dd,one at 8.5 wks & 1 at 10 wks.I can still recall the heartstopping horror of seeing blood. Each time it was as heavy as AF & lasted a week.I feared the worst, but she was fine.We never did find out what caused it.

Good luck for Tuesday,I'll keep everything crossed for you.
