Anoushka, so glad it was good news for you. I've had early bleeding in both my pregnancies and each time it was a one-off problem. Hope you are keeping well and many congratulations!

PamT · 05/08/2002 21:20

Anoushka, I've just caught up with this thread and wanted to let you know that I bled on and off between 6 and 18 weeks with both my first 2 pregnancies (both boys, both low placentas). At times I wished that I would miscarry so that I could stop worrying and get on with my life. Everything turned out ok in the end but DS2 had to be delivered early when I started bleeding badly at 31 weeks due to placenta previa. Its always worth getting it checked out when you bleed. I'm glad everything is ok now though, good luck with the next 33+ weeks.

PamT - being nosy I'm afraid - did you have placenta praevia with dd/ds 1, I know you said you had it with ds2 and had him at 31 weeks.

I had dd at 32 weeks 7 years ago due to placenta praevia and then abruptia. I did a lot of research as to whether it'd happen again and was, on the whole, advised that it shouldn't. Guess what - this time a 29 week preemie, now 22 months old. Regards Mabs

PamT · 07/08/2002 12:14

I had low placenta with both boys but it cleared with DS1. I didn't even know about it until I started bleeding at 30ish weeks with DS2 and even then wasn't scanned. I had a major bleed on the morning of DS2's delivery (31 weeks) but they didn't do an emergency CS until tea time when I had gone into shock through blood loss. The whole event left me quite traumatised because there hadn't been greater care before hand. I was told afterwards that I had grade 2 (I think) placenta praevia, but I don't know how bad this is. I also had to sign a consent form for any necessary additional surgery to be carried out if required - ie hysterectomy. DD was born 3 years later with no complications whatsoever and I even managed a very quick VBAC.

qsack · 18/08/2004 17:48

Advice, encouragement needed?! Am 6+ weeks. Found blood when i woke up yesterday morning, after getting over the shock, arranged to see doctor who sent me to the hospital for a scan. did that this morning. they couldn't detect anything scanning my belly, so did an internal. they found a sac and a spec inside the sac etc but said the measurements were for about 5.5 wks and it was too early to see a heartbeat . got to go back in a week. now i wish i'd asked more questions. my worry is that i am 6.5wks and the baby died a week ago, hence smaller size or am i just being paranoid. if that had happened would they not have been able to find anything? every doctor asked how much blood i had, really difficult to say, as far as i'm concerned anything is too much! i haven't bled since. feel like i'm in limbo, going away on saturday too for two weeks (the scan's booked in for where we're going on holiday to), prob. best to keep busy, but maybe i should be resting, just in case. any advice anyone?

pepsi · 18/08/2004 17:51

Just reading the thread and so pleased its good news. The very same happened to me at 6 weeks with my first baby, all was ok but at the time it was awful. Good luck for the rest of your pregnancy.

nannyjayne · 18/08/2004 17:54

I think you should rest and in bed. MY friend had a show like yours and her dr said bed rest for a few days. It was ok and she has a lovely girl now. I hope and pray Monday brings good news.

MummyToSteven · 18/08/2004 17:54

qsak - a very similar thing happened to me last year. I had what seemed like a very light period, then a BFP so went to the doctors. The GP referred me for a scan - I only had an abdominal one, wasn't offered an internal for some unknown reason - I was told that I was measuring 5.5 weeks, I thought that I was 7 weeks (based on LMP), all they could see was the yolk sac, no heartbeat, no fetal pole. They said either I had got my dates wrong or I had m/c, and I would have to come back for a further scan. I went back for the further scan and everything was fine - I was less far along than I had thought. If your cycle is longer than 28 days, the due date according to the LMP can easily be out. Even if your cycle is regular, you may still have ovulated/conceived late on in the cycle, and the due date be out. I just can't say based on what you have said whether or not everything will be fine. Unfortunately only the next scan can tell you that. As for rest - I would avoid anything strenuous, such as heavy lifting, a lot of exercise, but wouldn't avoid normal activity, or advise bed rest. Are you going away in this country or not - if not, then make sure your medical insurance is sorted out, and insurers are aware that your are PG. Take care

x

MummyToSteven · 18/08/2004 17:55

PS I would call the hospital to see what they recommend about rest. AFAIK the current thinking is that bed rest isn't necessary.

qsack · 18/08/2004 20:18

MummyToSteven, thanks for that, we're going away in the UK but nd to sort out insurance anyway, lets hope it's good news on wednesday. x

MummyToSteven · 18/08/2004 20:21

qsack - just thought. When I was in that horrible limbo period, the GP suggested that I don't overdo it, eg. that I stop going to the gym, but otherwise I was fine to go into work etc. Bed rest was never suggested.

qsack · 18/08/2004 21:33

ok. i'm prone to over doing it and like to run and do things at 100 miles an hour so will make big effort not to, till i know what's going on . thankfully my dh is on long holiday as he's back at college for 3yrs so he can help lots with ds.

sigi · 11/10/2004 15:49

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I had slight abdominal pains and tender breasts. Two days ago I had some bleeding with out any pain. Since then aside from slight nausia and fatigue I no longer have abdomnal pains or tenderness of the breasts. Are these symptoms of a m/c?
