Suggestions please.

Old fashioned, but not silly. Preferably something isn't easily shortened.

We already have a George (almost a year old)...Tom is on the cards for this one, but not a cert.

Help please!

Adam
James
Owen

Peachy · 02/06/2007 23:24

DS1's middle name is Godfrey

thats ahrd to shorten

was my maiden name, but I do like it.

TwoIfBySea · 02/06/2007 23:24

Dts2 is an Adam and gets called Addy by his Primary 1 schoolmates!

I found boys names particularly hard, we knew the twins were going to be boys about 2 weeks before they were born (at 36 weeks.) We had page upon page of girls names but finding a boys name we liked, let alone 2 was quite difficult.

Nemo2007 · 02/06/2007 23:33

I thought Adam couldnt get shortened but he has had Addy or Ad

Otter · 02/06/2007 23:36

we nipped to pizza express at 8.30 back home 9.30 = bliss

Clary · 02/06/2007 23:46

George I love
Also I agree re not shortening names (tho failed totally with DS2 but it is a pain, people always say is he XXXXX or is XX ok?)

How about:
Angus
Fraser
Arnold
Albert
Alfred
Stanley
Sidney
Oscar
Finlay
Gabriel I love
(sorry, most of those are a bit shorten-ish)

Nemo, that's bonkers (not you of course) to shorten Adam!

I too have an Adam that is shortened to Ads.

Fimbo · 04/06/2007 13:14

There is a James who works in our local shop and is known to all as Jimbo.

scorpio1 · 04/06/2007 13:19

Toby is nice... but is it getting more common? i have heard of a few round my way lately. my dc to be may be called Toby William...

alicet · 04/06/2007 13:29

We have a Sam which I absolutely love and suits him to a t!! We also prefer names you can't shorten so registered him as Sam not Samuel.

Other boys names I really like that have been vetoed by dh are Jake, Max and Lucas. Tom and Toby too but with our surname starting with T sounds too much like a clown! Boys are so much harder than girls!!! ds1 doesn't have a middle name as it took long enough to agree on the first name and we didn't want to use another we liked in case we had a second boy!

Now expecting ds 2 and really struggling. My fave is probably Paddy (shortened from Patrick though in case he applies for a high powered job and Paddy is too much of a joke name - still unsure!!!!!).

Others on the short list is Adam, Matt and Ben (although our surname begins with T so very reluctant on Ben even though I love it - he will become BenT!!!!)

Have just started separate thread asking for help on deciding so any help will be very much appreciated!!!!!

PetitFilou1 · 04/06/2007 13:40

mozhe · 04/06/2007 14:08

We have DS4 on the way....it's hard isn't it ! We have exhausted all our boys names as our older 3 each have 3 names each....PrincessPeaHead sugested Tristan, and taht is what we are ging with ! Don't mind if you pinch it too....I think it's lovely and so does DH

choosyfloosy · 04/06/2007 14:10

What about John?

I like shortenings on the whole but ds's name (Joel) can only be lengthened, usually revoltingly by me to Joelypoely etc.

Nbg · 04/06/2007 14:15

Just trying to remember our or should I say my list from when we had ds.

Lars
Reuben
Dexter
Bo/Beau

He got Ellis in the end.

We're in serious trouble if this next ones a boy!

Rosetip · 04/06/2007 14:23

Nicholas? (No one ever seems to mention this- why?)

Luke? (Sorry, but do you think the child would ever be called Puke?)

Adam
Matthew
Christopher

alicet · 04/06/2007 14:28

I have a mates whose husband is Luke - will ask her if thats ever happened!

Princesspowersparkle · 04/06/2007 14:37

Hello, Haven't read the rest of the thread, but we;ve decided if we have a son we will call him Oliver. My DH and I have argued for months over boys names and finally settled on this. It will probably be shortened to Ollie eventually.
