Beansprout, I can certainly identify more with your diary than soppy Emma's effort. What could we look forward to in our Beansprout Bounty pack?
(Mine would have a sick bag, salt and vinegar crisps and a very long video for the kids.)

MummyToSteven · 16/08/2004 18:43

Mine would have to include gas & air

hmb · 16/08/2004 18:48

A calender to time my labour

A very long book to read once the epidural kicked in.....

lou33 · 16/08/2004 18:53

I think gas and air should come alongside child benefit.

mit · 16/08/2004 18:56

Ooooh - Gas & Air........that can be added to my list of why want to have our next baby in the UK!

MIT - why don't they have it in the US?

motherinferior · 16/08/2004 19:01

Gas and air is so wonderful...sigh...

mit · 16/08/2004 19:08

I don't know! When I went for my pre-birth registration they asked what kind of pain relief I wanted I said "none if possible, just gas & air if I need it please" - to which the nurse replied, laughing "oh, we haven't had that here for years, it was stopped in the 1980's". I then meekly said "oh, well, I won't have any pain relief at all please........". I was totally shocked! It hadn't occured to me to ask during my pregnancy as I'd assumed they would have it.
I'm very cynical about the US health system and the love of suing people so I think they don't have it for the following reasons:

  1. It doesn't provide 100% pain relief, so you could in theory sue your doctor as you were in pain. Same reason you can't have a walking-epidural, it's either 100% pain relief or none.
  2. If there is no gas & air you're more likely to have bigger pain relief - which costs a lot more money. An epidural is in excess of $1000.
  3. If you have gas & air you probably need another nurse (not sure as I've never had it?) - and they are expensive (though they could just add it to the bill?!). Oh - I hate the health system here!! mit x

beansprout - WRITE THAT DIARY!!!!!!!

Sounds very much like my experiences

eidsvold · 16/08/2004 22:28

We get the equivalent of those bags in Aus but they had tonnes of free samples - stretch mark cream, various baby samples - shampoo, bath, lotion, newborn nappies, disposable bibs, wipes, nappy cream, indigestion tablets, milton sterilising tablets ( and more - just can't remember)plus tonnes of advertising things, free parenting magazine and discount vouchers.......

Linnet · 16/08/2004 22:54

I didn't get any bounty packs when I was pregnant. Always meant to ask the midwife about one then would forget. And wasn't given anything after delivery either, so I got no freebies or samples.

Mit I had Gas and air and it was great. didn't use it the first time as it made me feel sick but 2nd time was much better. I didn't need to have the midwife with me at all times or anything she showed me how it worked and left me to it. I always feel sorry for the American mothers on the discovery health channel programmes, no gas and air poor things.

There is supposed to be a toddler bounty pack! Has anyone managed to get hold of it? If so how and where?

blossom2 · 17/08/2004 13:09

I've seen the toddler bounty packs in boots etc and want to know how to get one too !!

frogs · 17/08/2004 13:17

Yes, I've had one of these. There's a card for it in the book you get with the newborn pack, otherwise you can register online here and they send you the claim card in the post.

sweetkitty · 17/08/2004 17:20

my gas and air mouthpiece looked like a ravenous alsatian dog had been at it for hours jaws hurt like hell the next day from biting on it

my bounty pack was terrible as well Frusli bar???large gin and tonic would be nice (purely medicinal of course)

littlerach · 18/08/2004 21:14

Well, I asked mw for Bounty pack last week when I had DD2, and was tolod that the local area do not promote these anymore. Very disappointed so am off to Boots asap to see if they will give me one!!
