Oh my god, another month?! Urgh. Maternity leave starts on 2nd August for me. So close yet feels so so far!

dingdongdigeridoo · 02/07/2018 15:41

It did cross my mind that I’d be pregnant in summer. But I thought I’d be pregnant during a British summer, so a couple of nice sunny afternoons then mostly cloudy drizzly days. I’m pretty sure the heat is why I’ve had to go to hospital for reduced movements and why my blood pressure is up! I’ve never been able to cope with hot weather unless it’s nice and dry too.

Of course, the heatwave is ending just in time for the school holidays to begin!

zozozoo · 02/07/2018 16:18

Averaging five hour broken sleeps here at 30 weeks. Bad hayfever and a cough too. Bedroom's 27 degrees. Not coping!

LostMyBaubles · 02/07/2018 16:32

Kirin!!
How are you???
Not seen you on for a while (Sept bus)
Hope you are coping in this heat!!

Lots of short, cold showers and ice lollies are helping me atm

DevonRosie · 03/07/2018 13:23

I feel your pain ladies, I'm 31 weeks and sooo hot. School holidays start on 20th July for me so not long till I finish! At the moment OH is finding ingenious ways of easing the heat for me... my fav is a 'hot' water bottle and a sheet in the freezer for a few hours before bed. Helps me get to sleep. :)

GreyCloudsToday · 03/07/2018 13:32

Urgh, I'm suffering too. 38 weeks +2 so just finished work, now I'm rushing around the hot house trying to do all the DIY and chores remaining! I haven't been able to wear proper shoes for 4 or 5 weeks Confused.

I splurged £80 on a swanky fan but it didn't touch the sides. I'm sleeping downstairs its so hot. At least it's windy here today (London).

lifechangesforever · 03/07/2018 13:42

38 weeks tomorrow! It's pretty annoying because I love the hot weather and feel so silly sat inside when I'm on maternity leave, when I could be outside topping up my tan!

I'm also getting pretty fed up of the 'oooo I bet you're struggling aren't you love' comments wherever I go. Lol.

lifechangesforever · 03/07/2018 13:45

My feet are also at breaking point now - they're just huge, tight and purple, I have 2 pairs of flip flops that fit and that's it. I have sores where my ankles should be. Hmm

SiolGhoraidh · 03/07/2018 13:51

@dingdongdigeridoo

Me too. this is not the average summer I was expecting!

Last night I took a wet towel to bed so I could sponge off whenever I felt too hot and sweaty. Dog thought this was amazing and kept coming up to cuddle it - not what I had in mind at all!

SlimGin · 03/07/2018 21:48

God. Just looked at 14 day forecast for my area (Somerset) and doesn't look like the heat's easing up at all until the 16th where it's 22 degrees, and the forecast ends there.

DP and I now sleeping separately as he's like a hot water bottle. Soo grumpy and miserable at work and I normally love the hot weather! I think I'm a bit gutted I can't go and join everyone in the pub garden watching the football etc.

It seems like everyone's over the weather now, pregnant or not. It's a bit exhausting. I hang up one batch of washing and I need a lie down.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 04/07/2018 10:06

Anyone else having massive issues with hay fever? I don't normally get it

I'm off this week but back at work Monday and no signs of it getting any cooler 😭 I might just have to live at the office

The only thing worse than being heavily pregnant and having to take the tube in this weather is the tube just not running. Second day in a row that I’ve got to the station to find there’s been a signal failure or something. I’m going to have to take a second mortgage to afford my cab fares!

GreyCloudsToday · 04/07/2018 11:00

Definitely a bit sniffly GrumpySquirrel. Are you allowed meds for it? I'm normally too lazy to read the labels so abstain!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 04/07/2018 11:13

Not officially sure but then I heard some units do give hay fever meds to pregnant women ? All the labels say do not take if pregnant

@slimgin I'm camping in Chew Magna at the weekend and am now officially dreading it. 29-30 degrees :(

SlimGin · 06/07/2018 21:12

@kirinm oh goodness yes looks especially hot tomorrow! It will be beautiful but sticky! Please invest in a personal fan.

Hope everyone's coping ok. I've given up on cooking tonight and will get a microwave meal for DP - is that mean?
Currently lying on the spare bed in the baby's room as it's cooler. Is anyone struggling with sleep mainly because sleeping on your side is 1000x hotter than back? I can still lie comfortably on my back but know I shouldn't, so keep rolling myself over but just makes me hotter

kirinm · 08/07/2018 14:17

Well, camping hasn't been too bad at all. Primarily because the field we camped in was totally shaded until about 12pm so I could sleep. The actual wedding was uncomfortably hot at times and I felt a bit odd a couple of times but overall, okay. Wouldn't ever recommend camping in this sort of heat but camping is fine.

My feet are horrible swollen.

surreygirl1987 · 08/07/2018 16:16

35 degrees and counting out here on the Greek islands! 😂 mind you, they are geared up for it much better London. Lots of time swimming on the sea... the tube musy be horrendous at the mo!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/07/2018 22:16

Really struggling today as got no sleep last night due to the heat and hip pain from lying on side. It feels even hotter tonight. I'm getting ill from lack of sleep. Sore throat and no choice but to get tube to central London for work for the next 2 days. Have to leave really early to make it bearable but I'm just dreading it. Sad 4 weeks and 2 days of work left.

Yep very grumpy today!
Has anyone got any tips for feet that feel like they're on fire??
I've not been on my feet much today however have been sitting upright at work. When I got home I soaked them in cold water and also put some horse balm on to cool my legs down. Lying in bed now and can just feel the blood swilling round them, feel like they're going to pop!

MuddlingThroughMidwifeMum · 09/07/2018 09:05

Keeping a bottle if talc in the freezer and sprinkling it onto your feet might give you some relief. Or you could try freezing a bottle of water and using it as a foot rest for a while.

SlimGin · 09/07/2018 12:05

Thank you @muddling! Will try these tonight Smile

TheGrumpySquirrel · 09/07/2018 22:32

Lovely cool breeze tonight!!
