38 + 1 and still working :( sooooooo hot. Planning on lying in a freezing cool bath tonight and sitting infront of the fan all night!

Hoping i dont go into labour in this heatwave!

claire7930 · 26/06/2018 15:34

29+6 & WFH today, back to my 3 hour driving commute tomorrow. I've just discovered that the cool mat I bought for our dog years ago which she's never used makes a very good seat cover! It's heaven on my back. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with another 10 weeks of this heat...

Flamingo84 · 26/06/2018 18:15

30+2 and absolutely melting! I have 4 weeks left in work and I’m running out of steam.

I’m trying to drink more water but I’m having to go to the loo every hour! I’m so tired as I couldn’t sleep because it was so hot.

I made sure not to moan about the heat in the office. Then had to bite my tongue all day when the others were complaining like mad! 😂

dingdongdigeridoo · 26/06/2018 18:21

Going into labour in this heat would be awful. Last time I gave birth it was a chilly March day, but the ward was boiling! I remember not being able to sleep because they keep the ward so hot.

Bromeliad · 26/06/2018 19:47

I'm 35 weeks and my feet and ankles have swollen up completely today after running around all day at work. I'm going to have to try and sit down more. Fortunately I've only got 1.5 more weeks!

lollilolli · 26/06/2018 20:06

30 weeks and really can't deal with this! I had to leave work early today to go home and sleep as only managed 1.5 hours last night due to being a sweaty, restless uncomfortable mess! DS was late back from school trip so ended up waiting in the playground an extra 15 mins, and by the time he came out I very nearly fainted for the first time this pregnancy! I've always been the biggest sun worshiper aswell, could sit out in it the entire day, but I can't even stand 10 mins now!

kirinm · 28/06/2018 09:03

My legs and feet were horribly swollen last night. Couldn't fit my shoes on after work. Am reluctantly wearing tights today in the hope it reduces potential for swelling. Work is strictly no flip flops but I've got a feeling that's all that'll fit soon!

Almostthere15 · 28/06/2018 09:42

My feet are awful too. I work in a very smart place but I asked a senior if sandals were ok under the circumstances and she agreed. Keeping them up a bit really does help but I know that's not possible in every job. I also have one of the aerosol water sprays which helps by cooking my feet down.

It was a little cooler last night thankfully here so had a bit more sleep. It's just so draining!

laurG · 28/06/2018 22:51

How does the heat make you all feel ladies? I have been doing ok. I’m in London too but luckily on leave at 38weeks.

Some days I’m fine. But today I’m totally wiped out. Tired, headachey and s bit nauseous. Seems more humid today. Baby is fine. Moving about as usual.

So hard to know how to entertain myself. Normally, I’d be out on the park but need to stay inside. Such a waste!

Bumblealong1 · 29/06/2018 08:13

I am lucky and able to work from home lots.
For those who can’t, will your employers let you shift your hours around?
There is a big difference travelling in rush hour and then traveling outside it (where you can get a seat etc etc).
I am dreading the heat in the hospital.
I have bought a handheld fan which also uses water - fiver from amazon.
And some cooling towels off amazon (yet to be tested).
I have also bought cooling packs from boots for migraine sufferers so my husband can put those across my forehead.

Keep strong everyone!

kirinm · 29/06/2018 09:31

I'm pretty miserable today which the heat doesn't help. I've also checked the weather forecast for next weekend as we are camping at a wedding and it's going to be hot. I feel like I'm becoming massively whiney but can't help it.

Butterflyrosebud · 29/06/2018 10:29

Miserable today too. Getting so restless I don’t know how much longer I can wait. It’s not even my due date yet (39 + 4) but I just need something to happen now. I’m so anxious waiting around, barely leaving the house, don’t even feel like walking the dog. If I go overdue I honestly don’t know how I’ll cope Sad

Everyone says ‘enjoy it’ ‘sleep while you still can’. FFS no. I’m bored and I want to meet my baby.

Rant over.

dingdongdigeridoo · 29/06/2018 10:31

The heat definitely wears you out quicker. I think I was really dehydrated the other day though. I was hardly peeing. I’m chugging down liquids but so bored of fizzy water and don’t fancy anything else.

Oh my gosh Kirin, you are brave to go camping! Do you have a decent camp bed etc? Hope you feel better soon. It’s definitely a bit of a miserable time.

kirinm · 29/06/2018 10:51

@dingdongdigeridoo yes we've bought a big chunky air bed which I'm hoping will help and I'll Take my pregnancy pillow. Also buying a fan and loads of batteries. I was really looking forward to it but since the restless legs and leg cramps have kicked in, not feeling the love so much!!

jubbablub · 29/06/2018 11:42

I’m 27+6 and as well as the heatwave, have caught a stomach bug from work after someone came in knowing that they had been sick three times in the morning. Took yesterday and today off, but I feel so weak and tired that I can barely get downstairs.

I’ve got fans going with bowls of ice in front, but I’m almost so exhausted that I can’t sleep.

coastalchick · 29/06/2018 13:30

If you’re bored of fizzy water try it mixed with Robinson’s lime and mint cordial - a bit like a mojito!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 29/06/2018 17:49

Went into office today after working from home most of the week. Morning tube okay as early. Luckily was able to expense a taxi half way home and overground train not as bad. But having to walk ten minutes down the street in this heat nearly killed me!

Feet and ankles have swollen now. Got away Scot free from swelling until this week. 33 weeks now and hope he comes at 37!

Levithecat · 30/06/2018 11:03

Baby Levi arrived on Thursday afternoon at 35weeks (I blame the full moon!) so I’m no longer suffering quite as much. It was 30 degrees on the delivery suite and the same now in postnatal, which isn’t fun. Think the poor midwives are suffering most.
Hope the last few weeks go well for you all, and the heatwave breaks a bit!

Bibijayne · 30/06/2018 12:37

Keep the electrolytes up ladies - as well as water. Don't be me! Spent 7 hours in MAU on a drip Wednesday. I'd only been outside a total of 30 minutes. Drinking loads, but not enough salta. Felt queasy, went to MAU and had +3 ketones in my urine. Many hours and two saline bags via IV later and I was okay to go home.

Took very little time to dehydrate and overheat.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 30/06/2018 12:38

Oh wow @Levithecat is baby ok?

OP posts:
dingdongdigeridoo · 30/06/2018 12:42

Congratulations Levi! It’s nice that you have a summer baby. They’ll always have a sunny birthday.

Ooh fake mojito is a good idea, thanks. And if I need electrolytes, I’d better eat more salt and vinegar crisps right?

Levithecat · 30/06/2018 13:12

He’s great, thank you. Amazing for 35w. Doing something called transitional care so he can be with me and just obs from Nicu. Hope to be out within a week.

Was dehydrated and needed a drip even though I was drinking heaps so agree to make sure you’re extra extra hydrated and salted! Cold wet flannels and wonderful, and cold showers.

Almostthere15 · 01/07/2018 08:11

Congratulations Levi, that's such lovely news.

I agree that it's really hard to stay hydrated, the weather doesn't look like changing anytime soon!

Stellarbella · 02/07/2018 07:31

Apparently the heatwave is set to last for the next month, so no relief in sight! I thought I was being so clever planning for a September baby - didn’t factor in a summer of being heavily pregnant!
