Coping with being overdue

I am 40+3 today. Just been to midwife for a sweep but it turns out the baby isn't engaged at all and my cervix was too high. Looks like it's not going to happen anytime soon. I could moan all day about how rubbish I feel (but I won't!). The only really unbearable thing is lack of sleep. As soon as I lie down my hips hurt so much I could actually cry. Anyone have any tips?

Turns out it wasn't my waters @olicat ,next step for me is an induction unless I go in to labour before tomorrow.

@bettydraper31 I have had 3 unscucessful sweeps now and agree they are very uncomfy but bearable and it's over fairly quickly.

Loosemoose28 · 30/04/2018 18:52

Going to have another sweep tomorrow if scan all ok. Sweep Thursday. Induction Friday 42+2. I cannot go beyond that. I have tried everything to get this baby out naturally.

bettydraper31 · 30/04/2018 19:01

Oh wow ladies both of you have done so well to get this far, it certainly tests your patience and I’m only 40+2!

UrgentExitRequired · 30/04/2018 20:17

@Loosemoose28 all the best! It looks like I have made slight progress in terms of how my cervix looks but I think I'm over the whole thing now, but I would have also considered stretching to 42+2 (or waiting to see what happens) if I wasn't so fed up. Friday is still some time away so hopefully you can go through labour naturally.

Loosemoose28 · 30/04/2018 20:28

My mum naturally laboured at 42 weeks with me.

37-42weeks is normal term pregnancy.

And this is what I am telling myself ALL THE TIME.

UrgentExitRequired · 30/04/2018 20:31

@Loosemoose28 I agree with you. It is completely normal, I think it's just that the date is drummed in to your head from the very beginning, so waiting past that date becomes a steep slope in to a state of mild depression/frustration/impatience/crazy emotions. Do keep us posted, I am still hopeful for you (and me!).

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 30/04/2018 20:35

No tips, I did everything and DS2 (DC4) still came out after a sweep at 41+6. I was actually in for an induction but the sweep kickstarted labour.

FHNick · 30/04/2018 20:55

@Loosemoose28 @UrgentExitRequired i think we find out so much earlier than our parents generation too so it makes it seem so much longer!! @MyNameIsTotoro lucky, I wish I could have had one at 38 weeks, although the one I had at 40+2 didn't actually work because she couldn't get to it. Another one Thursday so hopefully that will be more successful x

At 0030 this morning my little lady arrived in the pool. Weighing in 8lb 11oz bang on 42 weeks.

Cramped all day. In denial until 7ish thinking something happening.

Decided I was overwhelmed and just about coping so went in at 1030 no break with contractions really.

Was in the pool by 1120pm.

Friend looking after me said stop holding it in grin just give a good push will you... oh look hair. hmm she was born half hour later. Small tear not needing sutures- on cloud 9 flowers

fia101 · 02/05/2018 05:36

Congratulations!!!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 02/05/2018 06:05

Congratulations! I'm jealous that you got the whole water birth experience, I had to come out with DS2, because he got his shoulders stuck.

Ninjamilo · 02/05/2018 22:06

Congratulations ladies!

41 weeks tomorrow so considering a sweep to see if it kick starts things 😊

olicat · 02/05/2018 22:08

@urgent congratulations! I'm going in for induction tomorrow 😮

Smurfybubbles · 02/05/2018 22:10

@Ninjamilo I'm 41 weeks tomorrow too, definitely taking the sweep anything to help this baby along!
Spent all day with increasing back pain that has now eased off. Every time I think it's the start it fizzles out Hmm

Ninjamilo · 02/05/2018 22:43

@Smurfybubbles I'm the same, had backache all day. However not sure if it's the start of something or the fact I've just been doing too much!

Good luck for tomorrow!

FHNick · 03/05/2018 01:08

@Ninjamilo @Smurfybubbles good luck with your sweeps tomorrow, I'm 41+2 tomorrow and going in for second sweep. Let's hope they can actually do it and it kick starts things. @olicat good luck with your induction tomorrow, I hope it goes smoothly. Let us know x

Booked in for my sweep tomorrow really hope it helps to get things moving. Good luck everyone else having them.
@Loosemoose28 congratulations x

Smurfybubbles · 03/05/2018 10:11

@FHNick sorry it was bad news but remember that things can change so quickly! I'm getting the bad hip pain now too the only thing helping is sleeping with a pillow between my legs, it helps to stabilize my hips. I still end up tossing and turning to switch sides but at least it helps me fall asleep!

I'm off out for a walk to see if I can get things moving before I head for my sweep later this evening Grin
