Feel like I've jinxed it

Hello, it's me again.

Miss Anxiety!
My scan is on Wednesday and I'm so scared there won't be a heartbeat or I've made it all up.

I'm scared I've jinxed myself because I've bought baby stuff already. I couldn't help myself. Just some baby grows, a comfort blanket, a pair of booties and I got a cow soft toy free when I signed up to SMA club.
I've also told too many people - my parents, my partner's parents, my brother, two of my work colleagues, my boss, my best friends, he's told his best mate. If no heartbeat is found or there's nothing in there, I'll have to tell everyone! Sad

You haven't jinxed it! I know exactly what you mean though! I noticed that my anxiety about the pregnancy would peak every time we told someone. Even though I'm second trimester now I still feel like this sometimes especially when DH told a bunch of people I'd never met before in our local pub. If something does go wrong (more likely it won't) then you have people to support you!

Hi! I don't really believe in jinxes - what will happen will happen and there really isn't anything you can do to control it.
MMC with no symptoms (spotting, bleeding, cramping) are rare. It's not likely to have happened.
That said I did actually have one, and I do suffer from anxiety so I do understand where you're coming from. I had told people, and I sent out a blanket text when I found out I had a MMC saying "there was no heartbeat, I really don't want to speak about it x".
I was glad my parents knew, they were a big support.
Also, friends knowing I'd gone through that never asked any insensitive questions about when were going to have kids so that was good.
I hope everything goes well. I think the main thing that helped my anxiety was accepting that the worst case scenario might happen, no matter how many well wishes I got. Once I'd figured out what I'd do if the worst did happen, it was easier to control my anxiety.

Good luck op x

Thank you both, the thing is I did have spotting early on and I've had cramping since the start when I found out which I assumed was everything stretching and growing in there.

You haven’t jinxed anything, there’s no such thing. I made the mistake of buying lots of baby things before my first missed miscarriage because I already had three DC so took it for granted that all would be ok. It was incredibly painful returning home from hospital to see the baby grows and such I had stashed away Sad. I had a second missed miscarriage and when I got home I was so incensed with anger I threw my prenatal vitamins across the room.

Missed miscarriages are extremely rare, I was just so unlucky to have two. In all likelihood everything will be absolutely fine. I understand the anxiety though, I am filled with it this time around and absolutely dreading the 12 week scan. Good luck for Wednesday Flowers.

Oh and I had told a few people the first time around. I just sent them all a message to explain what had happened. Didn’t make the same mistake the second time, only told my mum and best friend. This time I haven’t told a soul except DP.

You're nearly there! You have done so well so far, just another day and you will be updating us about the scan. Remember think positive, deep breaths, distract yourself and remember that there is no way you can jinx it! Look at Kate Middleton! The whole world knew she was pregnant before 12 weeks! Deep breaths @CathyandHeathcliff YOU'VE GOT THIS!

AaronPurrSir · 11/04/2018 08:55

@cathyandheathcliff please let us know how you get in today x

AaronPurrSir · 11/04/2018 08:55

Great news! 😊

strawberrysparkle · 11/04/2018 10:55

Yay amazing news!!! Maybe try and hold off on the buying front for now though. 40 weeks is a long time and if you start too early it makes your pregnancy even longer!!!

AaronPurrSir · 11/04/2018 10:58

Fantastic news!!

twobambinos · 11/04/2018 11:02

Fantastic news op absolutely delighted for you

LastOneDancing · 11/04/2018 15:19

Great news CathyandHeathcliff - I have stalked you down from another thread as I wanted to see how your scan went!
I hope the waiting etc. wasn't too stressful?

I'm very happy for you! Flowers

SophieLMumsnet · 11/04/2018 15:21

Many congratulations OP! Flowers

We hope you don't mind - but the photo of the scan had your name and DOB on it, so we've taken it out to be on the safe side. If you're fine with that, though, and want to put it back up again, please do feel free to do so.
