Nausea Vs. Morning Sickness

EL332 · 01/04/2018 16:22

I'm between 6 and 7 weeks pregnant and have been getting waves of nausea and was sick once last week...

My nose is ridiculous and I can smell absolutely everything...

When did your morning sickness start?

How long did it last? Did it start as nausea and then turn into morning sickness or did some people escape with just nausea?

Thanks in advance lovely Mumsnetters ❤️

I suffered with horrid nausea until about week 11 and it never developed into actual sickness. I was the same as you - could smell EVERYTHING - everything smelt awful and the nausea was inescapable. I felt miserable but it did pass. I hope you’ve not got too much longer of it!

isthismummy · 01/04/2018 16:52

I started throwing up at 8 weeks and I still am at 14 weeks☹️

Food aversions are getting worse too. As for the pregnancy nose...everything stinks!

BarryTheKestrel · 01/04/2018 16:52

Mine has always just been nausea, with the occasional sickness when a smell has made me gag too much.
I'm awful with the unrelenting nausea, 24/7 it never stops and i can't concentrate on anything properly.

ChilliMum · 01/04/2018 16:56

Also the unrelenting nausea here. It's hard to know if it is just nausea or morning sickness as I can't eat or drink anything as my throat gags and I retch when I put anything in my mouth so my stomach is permanently empty.

usernotfound0000 · 01/04/2018 17:30

Just nausea so far for me, it's horrid. I'm sure I'd feel better if I was sick but never am.

CharminglyGawky · 01/04/2018 18:28

Oh that sucks, I was quite sick and was throwing up multiple times a day for weeks, it started at about your stage, it was a bit better by 12 weeks, much better by 16 weeks and pretty much gone by 20 weeks. The worst smell for me was the fridge or worse still the freezer, they were both clean but there is that slight smell they all have... I think DS was born before I could open the freezer without gagging.

My cousin had a similar timeline but was never sick, just really nauseous. My other cousin felt sick on and off for about 2 weeks and was shocked by the fact that I lost weight in early pregnancy!

Hope you feel better soon.

CharminglyGawky · 01/04/2018 18:29

Oh and I never had 'just' nausea. Straight into vomiting here!

TheMogget · 01/04/2018 18:34

Nausea here, vomited a couple of times but on the whole just unrelenting nausea. Envy

Mine is just beginning to ease off at 9 weeks but I can't stomach anything sweet which just makes me feel sick all over again (regretting some chocolate cake earlier and my Easter Egg is definitely not getting cracked open today Sad)

Squashpocket · 01/04/2018 18:45

I had unrelenting nausea, almost no vomiting, with pg1 from week 6-13 and more 'traditional' morning sickness (wake up, throw up, nausea during the day which was controlled by eating) with pg2 from 8 weeks to 24 weeks. The unrelenting nausea of pg1 was much much worse than the vomiting.

ThorsMistress · 01/04/2018 20:01

I had nausea from week 6. I was only ever sick a handful of times but the nausea was constant. Currently 15 weeks and I’ve been feeling good for the last week now. Certain thinks still make me heave but the general nausea has gone

NicoleSalski · 01/04/2018 20:11

Technically, nausea is a form of morning sickness. I had proper nausea from 6.5 weeks. Slightly queasy before then. Sick about 4/5 times a day. I actually feel like the nausea is worse than the vomiting. At least when you vomit, regardless of how gross it makes you feel, it offers you a little bit of relief (even if just for a short while). Constant nausea is draining.

There have been some very detailed studies however in to morning sickness. There is a very strong correlation between nausea and reduced chance of miscarriage. If you are vomiting, the risk of miscarriage lowers even further!

Congrats and best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy Thanks

I just felt like I’d massively overeaten from week 6-14. I couldn’t face trying to eat anything - I felt absolutely stuffed all day long. I would literally just eat a couple of crackers in a day because I felt too full to have any more. Not particularly nauseated and I never vomited, just really uncomfortable.

Flamingo84 · 02/04/2018 17:21

I had nausea from about week 6. It lasted all day, every day. No vomiting just the constant feeling of motion sickness that was only eased by sitting still. It went on until week 11 then eased a bit to the point it only came on in odd ‘waves’ that went as quickly as they arrived.

By the end I wanted to vomit as I heard people saying they felt better after it and could get on with their day!

I almost cried when my boss said “oh so you just felt sick, you weren’t actually sick”. Hmm

But there is light at the end of the tunnel, for most women it does pass after the first trimester. Try using sea bands you can get them from pharmacies or supermarket, they eased it a bit for me. Also eat little bits through the day. Don’t beat yourself up about not eating enough, just eat what you can, when you can.

SqidgeBum · 02/04/2018 18:28

I am 6+2 and the nausea has hit me this week. Its pretty much constant. I find eating little often helps. I can never let myself get hungry, but I try to keep it simple like plain biscuits and I sip on 7Up to settle my stomach. I havent had any vomiting or thought I would vomit. Its more consistent car sickness like feeling. It is pretty horrible and I dont know how long it will last. I have been a bit worried that I am not eating well enough, I just cant stomach fruit, but I figure the best thing is to eat something rather than nothing. I have been told it will pass so I am crossing my fingers for that time to arrive soon.

RandomMess · 02/04/2018 18:33

Had nausea and no sickness the whole way through...

Bluebelltulip · 02/04/2018 18:57

I had nausea from about 6-9 weeks then sickness until about 16 weeks.

Dimples75 · 02/04/2018 19:10

Hi all

Am currently approx 7 weeks with first child. Nausea has been miserable and have started being sick occasionally. Whilst I wouldn't change being pregnant for anything, this part is a bit pants! Mind you, you'll probably find me on another thread worrying about one morning of NOT feeling sick in case something was wrong! I'm hoping the nausea passes around the normal time but even if it doesn't my little one is worth it.

Xx

HeresMeh · 02/04/2018 19:14

You've literally written my post for me @Dimples75 Smile

Nothisispatrick · 02/04/2018 19:15

Nausea here, no vomiting. Started about week 7 and still here at week 14. It's eased off a bit, but I still can't open the fridge in the morning or I start gagging from all the smells. Also have to eat before I get out of bed in the morning or I start gagging from hunger. Really hope it eases off soon.

Nothisispatrick · 02/04/2018 19:16

Dimples75

Very true, when I have 'good daysI start worrying my symptoms have vanished.

HeresMeh · 02/04/2018 19:18

Nausea has been a massive shock to the system for me!

I'm REALLY hungry but WHATEVER I think of to eat has me couking at the thought of it.

The only thing so far that's worked for me is chocolate covered rice cakes! Even water gives me the heave. And like PP said, opening the fridge, the dishwasher, going into the fresh air, I'm boke city!!

No actual sickness yet just major queeze!

Also, since end of week 5 (now at 7) I've woken up about 4am dreaming of Minced beef and been sooo nauseous! EnvyEnvyEnvy

Dimples75 · 02/04/2018 19:22

I hear ya! When I wake up and don't immediately heave, it's a panic! And after hearing everyone's stories there i had to run upstairs and be sick. No offence ladies lol x

HeresMeh · 02/04/2018 19:23

Haha! Shit @Dimples75 - sorry about that! EnvyWink

Anatidae · 02/04/2018 19:23

Ah, morning sickness. It’s a bastard.

Nausea started very early - both times I was woken up in the middle of the night within a week of conception, vomiting (which I wouldn’t have believed was possible but hey ho.)
By 3 weeks I was being sick multiple times a day and nauseous constantly.
BFPs both times at 3.5weeks (and yes I’m sure of the dates, both conceptions were single shot efforts due to work travel and illness.)
First pregnancy was horrifically sick up to 20 weeks then just about 3 massive sessions of puking a day and constant nausea.
Current pregnancy has been worse. Hospitalised, been through all the drugs. None work for me. Drips, off work for weeks on end. Now 19 weeks and its failing off slightly to ‘just’ constant nausea and 3 or so huge puking sessions a day. It’ll probably stay like that until the end.
Permanent dental and tissue damage from puking. Fun fun fun.

There is a wonderful hyperemesis thread for anyone suffering badly.

polkadotpixie · 02/04/2018 19:50

I've had horrible nausea since 6 weeks (I'm now 16 weeks). I've not actually been sick since about 10 weeks but the nausea is relentless

I found weeks 7-11 the absolute worst but it's still unpleasant. I'm really hoping it doesn't last the full 40 weeks because it's really getting me down
