Hello everyone :)
So I got my scan date which is 26th February. Not only OH Birthday but, I'll be 8 weeks, will that still be a viable time for a scan?

I'm 21 & it is all overwhelming to me... My first midwife last year was amazing, knew what was going on etc etc this midwife when i went for my booking in appointment did say i was higher risk and that she wanted to see me earlier then 6 weeks because of my mmc... I'm not lying....
I have no idea how they measure it all, hence I came here for help asking what is going on to be bombarded by everyone asking how have i managed this etc etc. It's not my fault, I don't understand this stuff I needed help I came here to feel a bit pushed by people comments if intended or not. I'm just a petrified 21 year old who has a lot of stuff going on, these hormones really aren't helping either & i just want some help :'(

Lmp of 28 Dec would be 5+4, and you say you've known for about 4 weeks? When did you get your bfp?

Any chance you're further ahead than you think and that "period" was implantation bleeding?

BlueMermaid96 · 05/02/2018 17:39

I also told the midwife im fine to do all the tests, I'm also happy to do the extra tests that im having because of my bmi being 1.5 over... I had my bloods done friday just gone too

I do know i count from my period, im not an idiot. The test paperwork says, that if the test says 1-2 the doctor will say 3-4 weeks hence i called them right away and got an appointment for when i was 6 weeks but they saw me earlier

Oh you poor thing! Don't feel disbelieved. Everywhere is different as all areas have different commissioners. Some areas might have the capacity to provide reassurance scans for Mac. You can check viability from around 6 weeks. I'm sure screening will be discussed and you might get this scan later. That said, I think you should use an online pregnancy calculator to help you work out your dates. It's worked out from the first day of your last period so before you even conceived! I had no idea about this either and I'm 34 and a nurse. So don't worry about it! :)

bathandpjs · 05/02/2018 17:44

Based on your last period you will be just over 8 weeks at the date of your scan.

My scan was booked for when I was 13 weeks. I was actually 11 weeks at the scan and the baby wasn't seen as clearly as it could have been.

I did have a private scan at 8 weeks and the baby was not big enough to have done the tests required at 12 weeks.

My booking in was done at 9 weeks.

I am under a different NHS trust so I can only tell you what happened in my situation.

Personally I would call your midwife to check. Could they have booked you in for Feb instead of March when you would be around 12 weeks?

BlueMermaid96 · 05/02/2018 17:44

21st Jan - Faint positive
23rd Jan - Bold positive & Digital test confirms at 1-2 weeks (leaflet says 1-2 weeks on test means 3-4 weeks)

Maybe try and calm down. You've come across really angry and I'm not sure it's wholly necessary. Try and not worry, take the advice for what it is. No one is accusing you of lying or being stupid Flowers

BlueMermaid96 · 05/02/2018 17:48

I'm not angry just really emotional, im at the 'cry at everything' stage... I cried at bird taking another birds food yesterday. All i wanted was some help to understand, but it seems to me that its a load of questions i dont understand and its confusing me

So I think what people are saying is that yes it does seem early for a scan at either 8 or 10 weeks so would be worth having a word with a midwife or GP perhaps?

BlueMermaid96 · 05/02/2018 17:50

And I felt like someome thought I was stupid, when they said about counting from my period, then put what it seemed, a sarcastic 'right?' Well they ask that at the booking appointment and this is the second time ive been pregnant so

I've left a voicemail message for my midwife team but wont get an answer till tomorrow when im at uni

Given that you have a lot of questions and are understandably very highly strung and emotional about all this, you might be better off speaking to your own midwife or.hospital about it as they'll know your history. I don't think anyone is accusing you of anything but the dates don't quite make sense so I think people were just curious.

Justturned50 · 05/02/2018 17:55

Saying that I had a very early scan with my first DS - at 6 weeks or so because I had so much groin pain. Heartbeat detected. All good. That was 17 years ago now.

bumble908 · 05/02/2018 18:00

I had an early reassurance scan at 8 weeks after having an ovary removed and a miscarriage, they said they offer this between 8-10 weeks, to make sure everything is all okay,
then I still had the regular apt at 12 weeks as well

Buxbaum · 05/02/2018 18:02

OP, I've reported your earlier posts for you. You have posted photos which include your full name, your address, DOB and your NHS number. This is very foolish and you need to be careful not to do it again.

You really do need to calm down. There has clearly been a mistake; 8 weeks is too early for a nuchal translucency measurement to be taken.

zaalitje · 05/02/2018 18:04

You're coming across as angry saying you do know how to count from LMP, but OP the questions are because the dates didn't add up. You were 3-4 weeks when you found out, by normal medical measurement. 1-2 week by clearblues whacky dating system. But you were saying 1-2 weeks, which isn't possible as you don't ovulate till 2 weeks, so no egg to fertilise, so no pregnancy to be detected.

The scan around 8 weeks is fine, they can date from that but they can't do the tests for Downs etc as the measurements need to be done between 11&14 weeks. If those tests are important ask for them to change your scan date.

Extra tests etc for things like BMI kick off second and third trimester, your first 13 weeks are pretty uneventful.

user1471468296 · 05/02/2018 18:05

Hi OP

I had my booking in appointment at what later turned out to be 5 weeks but because I had really irregular periods they thought I would be 8. As such I was only measuring 9 weeks at my dating scan ('12 week scan') which matched what I thought from my pregnancy test. It was no big deal at all, they just gave me another appt for 3 weeks time and did the tests then. It was a nice opportunity to see the baby twice actually! I'm not sure I would bother trying to rearrange, I didn't want to risk being outside the testing window just in case there was a mistake with my dates, even though I was pretty certain I was earlier than the date given by my last period. Like I say, it was really simple - they just booked an extra scan, no fuss. Hope it all goes well for you.

EggYolkPie · 05/02/2018 18:13

OP, your letter says that the point of the scan is to check the baby’s heart is beating, to confirm the number of babies and to date the pregnancy. This doesn’t sound like a nuchel test which can only be done at around 12 weeks. It seems you are being offered this scan for your reassurance because of your previous miscarriage.

Just to clarify though, a MMC doesn’t make you high risk. Sadly miscarriage is very common and is usually just one of those things. After this scan it’s unlikely to have any bearing on how you’re treated throughout the rest of the pregnancy.

Addy2 · 05/02/2018 18:18

Do you have maternity notes? You can check in there and see if the midwife has put you down for the NT screening or not. She might have recorded the wrong thing by mistake?

mollifly · 05/02/2018 18:21

You add 2 weeks to clear blue don't you? So you were actually 4 weeks pregnant at the time?

ProfessionalPirate · 05/02/2018 18:22

What's with the attitude? Everyone here is just trying to help. The questions are so we can understand better what's going on. Pretty understandable that people ask about dates when you talk about being 1-2 weeks pregnant, it's confusing and we just want to be clear so we can try and give you an explanation.

Better off talking to your midwife op.

KTD27 · 05/02/2018 18:27

Hi OP. Try not to worry firstly. I know it’s scary and you’ve had an awful time with a miscarriage so I can imagine your anxiety is a little high and you want to know it’s going to be ok.
Essentially that’s what your scan is for. You’re too early to do a dating / NT scan where they measure baby’s fluid behind the neck and do combined bloods for downs etc If you choose the tests. This scan at 8 weeks will be a viability scan. It will probably be done vaginally and they’ll check baby has a heartbeat and there’s just one of them in the right spot in your uterus.
You’ll then get another date in around a months time to have your 12 week scan done.

BlueMermaid96 · 05/02/2018 18:34

I don't have an attitude towards anyone... I've said I'm emotional and tbh I've been none stop crying for the last 3 hours... I'm worried and concerned like ive said before... I'm just trying to figure it all out... I dont think people have read my comments properly... I'm not angry at anyone im just up in the air with confusion...
