wurlywurly · 24/04/2007 16:28

ooooh Archie definatly

bobsmum · 24/04/2007 16:28

Archie

Piffle · 24/04/2007 16:29

Archie is also the name of that weird castle guy in Balamory
I have a Max, pretty common in 3-4 yr olds names my Max is 13 and not many around his age, it has got more popular last few yrs..

DeviousDaffodil · 24/04/2007 16:29

Love maximus,
Archie is nice.

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 16:30

Maximus has much more gravity than Archie and still shortens well.
When (all together now) he is called to the Bar, knighted, graduates etc I think it's good to have the option of a non-abbreviated name.

pussycatmomma · 24/04/2007 16:31

Max, deffo not Maximus imho
Archie is the nicer of the two. Probably a bit less popular too, so wouldnt have about 6 in one class.
And not that Im biased but it is also the name of my dog

tigerschick · 24/04/2007 16:32

Instinct said Archie but it can't be shortened and we know a Max who is known as Maxie too, which is sweet... so I guess it depends if she wants to be able to shorten it or not.

MerryMarigold · 24/04/2007 16:33

ummmm....neither? Max is ok but not in the full form.

WelshBoris · 24/04/2007 16:34

Max Max Max Max Max

Love Maximus

hertsnessex · 24/04/2007 16:34

archie or max, not maximus.

cx

krabbiepatty · 24/04/2007 16:34

Archie is a diminutive, no.
Maximus - isn't that the name of the Russell Crowe character in gladiator? what about Maxwell or Maximilian or just Max?

bakedpotato · 24/04/2007 16:35

Maxim, surely (shades of de Winter). Or even at a pinch Maximilian or however you spell it.
Maximus is too Gladiator for words.
Archie is nice-ish though.

scorpio1 · 24/04/2007 16:35

Max definitely

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 16:36

oh, now Maxwell is pretty good...

I thought it was an either/or thread theough - no wandering off!

deuxcheekymonkeys · 24/04/2007 16:36

Archie reminds me of Balamory too!! She loves Maximus but thinks Max sounds like a dogs name!!! THe middle name is probably James.....

krabbiepatty · 24/04/2007 16:36

Or Maxicosi after the carseat?

pinkchampagne · 24/04/2007 16:38

I prefer Archie myself (so long as I scrub the image of that guy from Balamory out of my head!), but Max is cute too. Max is a very popular name at the school I work. We only have one Archie.

deuxcheekymonkeys · 24/04/2007 16:38

She is sitting next to me right now and hadn't thought of Maximillian....shes loving that as thought Maximus was a bit too Russell Crowe.....she still loves Archie though!

geekgrrl · 24/04/2007 16:40

ds is a Maximus so I love it naturally - it's timeless, cool and unusual without being weird; we shorten it to Max most of the time.

Don't like Archie much - Archibald isn't exactly easy on the ears.

Kelly1978 · 24/04/2007 16:42

I like maxwell better too, or max. I don't liek the full version, I think it is terribly poncey.

Archie is nice, but I had a rabit called archie, and next door's little brat is called archie, so couldn't go there.

belgo · 24/04/2007 16:43

both are fine.

geekgrrl · 24/04/2007 16:44

'tis ok, I can take it
have to admit I was thrilled when we registered ds's birth and were told they'd not had a Maximus in N. Yorks. for 6 years.
I think Maximillian is really poncey.

MrsBadger · 24/04/2007 16:44

one man's poncey is another man's mainstream, as I thought when I met a Florian at the weekend...

MarsLady · 24/04/2007 16:45

I love Max. Maximus is what I call DT2. In the hospital I called him Maximum Aurelium and the mw thought it was his real name. PMSL!!!!! But he's Max... fullstop! I just call him Maximus

deuxcheekymonkeys · 24/04/2007 16:45

geekgrrl - have you met any other boys called Maximus???? How do people react to that.......
