Maternity jeans - how to keep them up?

Just spent £40 on a pair of topshop jeans but they need hoiking up every 30 secs...anyone any suggestions? Will they get better the further I go on - am 19 weeks - or shall I try to take them back (worn them) and complain?

My top shop ones are the same. Recommend the over the bump ones from H&M. Much comfier.

Under the bump pg trousers suck.

(Pls excuse the shameless plug!!!)
I am selling a nice pair of over bump Dotty P jeans on ebay at the mo (user name annaw70, still not worked out how to link...).
No longer fit me (am 35 weeks) but might be perfect for someone on here and saves having to fork out full price...

Tutter · 01/04/2007 21:57

nath - friend's shop is pushmaternity (pushmaternity.com)

should warn you the prices are not for the faint of heart

baysmum - shall try to get to the PO tomorrow

Well I've found a sort of solution which is to use a scarf (headscarf not woolly scarf!) instead of a belt - more comfortable. With a bump band. And by the time I get too big to wear jeans it'll be summer anyway. But all trousers I get from now on will be over the bump that's for sure!

Take them back!! I had a pair like this and they were utterly useless! Who designed them, you ask? I'm thinking either a man, or a very young, very thin pre-baby woman who thinks that pregnant women are the shape that Rachel in Friends was when she was supposedly pregnant (I saw a "pregnant" episode of Friends last night - when viewed from behind, Rachel still had a waist - very realistic, har har!)

I have a pair of next three quarter length jeans.. with over the bump jersey bit that keep falling down all the time..
A pair of next jeans over the bump that fall down..
a pair of next under bump combats that fall down..
and a pair of next jeans under bump that are too tight!!!!!!
All in the same size!! ( i am 25weeks)
my best jeans are a pair that I bought from mother care when pg with ds (2004) they are over the bumb but all denim with extendable tabs at the side.. fantastic.. they fit lovely.. still lots of room to make them bigger..

it is driving me mad.. picking my jeans up all the time.. my dh laughs when we are out walking the dog.. as I am constantly pulling my trousers up before they really end up at my ankles.. (which they do sometimes as I walk up stairs if my hands are full..!) End up with just my niks on sometimesby the time I get to the top or bottom!!

Have to chip in about my fab New Look jeans. I am fussy at the best of times, but these are really comfy, under bump with jersey pocket patches and those elastic button thingys inside. They're branded House of Denim, have straight/wide leg and have nice carpenter style pockets on the bum. I wear them with a belt. I got a size smaller than normal but reckon will soon be upgrading. At £25 they're a bargain I think.

God I miss my old jeans!

jenmac · 02/04/2007 17:01

Have any of you tried Rock and Republic cords/jeans? I got some which are under the bump which I love and wear most of the time since I only bought a few casual bits (most is work wear). I am 32 weeks and they is some hoisting up after I get up from a seat but I find the band at the front helps support the bump. Also, got them on ebay for about £30.

toadstool · 02/04/2007 21:37

I have Next PG jeans. Whole lot fell down in the school playground. Not a great look.

BUT - my H and M 'combats' with jersey bump belt are staying up . Sadly it's because they're a bit tight, but I'm hoping they'll stay at least part of the course. (Last H and M maternity wear I bought ripped at first wash).

KathyMCMLXXII · 02/04/2007 21:39

Haven't read thread, but my answer is one word:

dungarees.

EnormousChangesAtTheLastMinute · 02/04/2007 21:47

i only wear my top shop jeans to go out and take them off as soon as i get home cos they drive me insane. but i can't wear dungarees. i'd rather be confined. what is a bump belt?! is that the answer? my old top shop jeans are better but not as up to date... i do like the way new ones look if only they'd stay up. still, glad everyone has the same problem and even expensive ones creep down! at least i'm in good company!

talulla · 03/04/2007 13:39

I haven't got time to read all the thread....but my essential item was 'Crave Maternity' jeans....expensive but worth every single penny....wore them thro all pregnancy.....and they are reving up for number two fairly soon I hope!

typhoonsmum · 03/04/2007 16:38

Oh thank heavens for this thread. I thought maternity jeans staying up was just a problem for me. I only have a little bump but old jeans got too tight a few weeks ago so have gone into maternity ones. Have a pair from the catalogue with the elastic that are a nightmare. I give up on them after just coming downstairs. Dorothy Perkins ones seems ok. They are under bump with a soft waistband. They tend to fall down but not as much as the others (Bargain at £16 too)

Nath · 03/04/2007 18:25

Thanks Tutter, I have seen their webpage - gorgeous shop and not too far from me either, cheers!

bananabump · 03/04/2007 19:01

Hi,

I'm having similar problems with the jeans I bought from Simply Be (size 16+) here

They just don't stay up. The front panel is so huge and soft there's no way these will fit even if I shove a spacehopper down there! They're about 6 inches too long in the leg, plus they have this horrible horizontal seam across the lower portion of the bum which constantly makes it feel as though your knickers have fallen down. I'm considering modifying them somehow, or adding some elastic....

Their black trousers are thankfully adjustable, but I'm mostly living in comfy drawstring pants at home. May as well be comfy, eh?

LUCIA22 · 04/04/2007 16:11

I have some lovely jeans from H&M, over the bump. They have been so comfortable although they did slip down a bit at first, I fill them out nicely now though, definately a good buy. Dont know if I would have wanted to wear them through a hot summer though. I also bought some under bump trousers for work from H&M which were fine at first but I do find they fall down now as I have had to let them out otherwise they dig into the sensitive bit at the bottom of my stomach when i sit down but there nothing to hold them up when i stand up!!!.

pookey · 04/04/2007 21:50

I did a similar thread a few months back I was so excited about getting my top shop jeans cos last pg around they were fab (too fab I wore them out), obv got a new designer. bring them back if you have only worn them a couple of times ... its too late for me worn them loads (with belts, tummy band things, even a pair of tights through the belt loops all to little effect sigh!). I tried ringing a couple of times to complain but couldnt get through so gave up .

BakuJen · 08/04/2007 16:26

So glad it's not just me.... my trousers are all so bad that as I turned to write something on the whiteboard at work the other day there was a giggle fromn the front row of smiling teenagers, on of whom politely asked my what my tattoo was of. The bump band had ridden up, trousers down.... is there no dignity to be had anymore? Roll on summer and those great smock dresses!
Talking of whihc, Sainsbury's own rane have some great smik tops in at the moment which actually fit my bump and boobs. Amazing!

poppy34 · 08/04/2007 21:01

blooming marvellous ones also give the really attractive builders bum look - I'm finding the whole pie eating/builders bum look (I'm 16+ 3) a very good look as my intro to maternity wear.

Out of interest - has anyone tried Gap maternity jeans? I really like their non maternity jeans (love the fit) so was wondering if worth getting a friend to invest in some for me when they go to the US....

colditz · 08/04/2007 21:02

The answer is to give up on jeans and buy some jogging bottoms from peacocks with a tie waist.

BibiThree · 25/05/2007 14:50

Had to resurrect this thread because I have just found these

mad4girls · 25/05/2007 17:36

they look good bibithree

just thought id add that peacocks maternity 3/4 combats arent too bad for hoiking up

but not sure if thats because i have a fat bum and round belly already

probably just you skinnies having trouble keeping em up

beckmo · 25/05/2007 18:08

Not sure about those Bibi Three....would I be trying to stop my bra coming down as well as my jeans!Let us know if they work....

Perservered with my TS jeans and at 38 weeks preggars am finally admitting that they will NEVER stay up. Have had to wear a belt all through....didn't get too small though and made my bum look nice. Just damn uncomfortable. Best buy for me have been those stretch black jersey under/over the bump trousers from Blooming Marvellous/ Jo Jo AND M&S doing a great version of these right now for £15!

juliewoolie · 27/05/2007 21:27

basically I think every pair of mat jeans I have had have fallen down and from what I know it does'nt matter whether they are below bump half panel full or whatever other variation you can find.

maisym · 27/05/2007 21:38

only go for over the bump styles - like h&m. Got some fab alover stretch trousers in black from mothercare - reallly comfy.
