Maternity jeans - how to keep them up?

Just spent £40 on a pair of topshop jeans but they need hoiking up every 30 secs...anyone any suggestions? Will they get better the further I go on - am 19 weeks - or shall I try to take them back (worn them) and complain?

Tutter, I never met someone with so many maternity jeans!!
Thought Earls were the mother of all maternity jeans. I tried them on and they felt a different league. But sadly, couldn't justify buying it.
I recommend Paige Premium which I swear by for normal jeans. The maternity ones are just ok for me, nothing I'd swoon over but I think its because I got it one size too large, hence the whole problem of hoiking it up often.

ah, greenday, i have a secret weapon

a friend with a maternity wear boutique who gives me discounts

Kelly1978 · 30/03/2007 12:51

get braces. I only found taht over the bump ones stayed up, and I had to do them up really tight witht he elastic adjsuter things. That's why I lived in dungarees - much more comfortable.

PregnantGrrrl · 30/03/2007 13:53

i'm giving up on them this time round. got sick of them always falling down first time round. leggings under a shortish dress was sooooooo much easier and comfier.

Went to London on Monday specifically to buy maternity jeans, nearly forked out £200 (!!!) for the Citizens jeans but couldnt bring myself to so got the £40 Topshop ones - am now regretting it .....I think! I object to wearing a belt with mat jeans - uncomfy and defeats the object..hmmm

Tutter · 30/03/2007 14:06

what size are you baysmum

jem1969 · 30/03/2007 14:16

My top shop jeans are really itchy and not v comfortable at all. Gap maternity jeans are really comfortable- lots of different panels. I bought mine in the states but quite a lot sold on US ebay with shipping to U- still work out cheapish

Piffle · 30/03/2007 14:19

yeah get to 32 wks they fit perfectly
Get to 36 and they are too tight

kiteflying · 30/03/2007 14:19

I would recommend Noppies over the bump - mine were fine in Spain so not too thick and they give you a nice look from behind if you are small there (some mat jeans I tried on assumed that this area was blooming as well!!) But have no pockets or zips so deffo look like maternity wear. Never slip down. Fab.

I also have a pair of Blooming Marvellous under the bump which originally slid down but I managed to get them tight enough with the elastic and buttons and these are a really good fit as well now plus they look like normal jeans so you can wear them with shorter tops.

I am eighteen weeks.

geordiemacminx · 30/03/2007 14:25

I bought some Next under the bump ones, they came with an elastic type belt thing which has helped to keep them up - they arent perfect but I have worn them for the past 5 months so they cant be too bad - especially as I got the brand new on ebay for about £12.. best place to look for maternity stuff if you ask me.. also dotty p has some good t shirts for under a tenner - I thought I could get away with buying a bigger size but after 6 months they just looked like tents that didnt even cover my bump!!

Baysmum · 30/03/2007 14:25

Ah Tutter, I will tell you but I am bit ashamed to admit that I am the biggest size they do - a 32" waist - and most of the pairs in Selfridges were 25" skinny things - but I brazened it out!

Annie75 · 30/03/2007 14:57

I've got one pair of really nice maternity jeans so far from TopShop, which are always too low, so I wear them with a long tunic-top/dress to cover the embarrassing gap! Other than that, I'm an expert with a long safety pin and my usual trousers, as long as the tunic top covers the pin and knicker-gap

Reckon I'd prefer to look forward to buying a few clothes after the baby's born, so trying hard not to get much now. Oh, have found maternity tights (from H&M, though they're not great quality and have already got holes in the feet) mean that I can get away with wearing usual dresses for longer as there's plenty of room for expansion still!

snipersmum · 30/03/2007 17:13

hey baysmum- how are you?

Tutter · 30/03/2007 17:19

will check baysmum but think mine might be 30 or 31

if they're the right size you're welcome to em

will check in later

Baysmum · 30/03/2007 17:38

OOh Tutter, a 31" pair might do it - if I stop eating everything in sight - may be a good incentive! Let me know and maybe we can do a deal?x ps Hi Snipersmum - am fine ta, how are you?x

chirpygirl · 30/03/2007 17:48

I am soooo tempted to bid on these for the same reason!

peanuthead · 30/03/2007 18:59

Oh well will go into toppers next week and let my pregnancy hormones have full flow! Not sure they'll take them back just because they're crap as I have worn them for a day - but they're unwearable. I also got a pair from Dot Ps wiuth buttons and elastic and they're pretty good - just not that stylish but am already so blimpy think I may have to forget style

HelloMama · 30/03/2007 19:46

ooooh! Tutters! What length jeans do you wear? if you are willing to sell any of them I would be very interested if they are around a 32-34" length. [as long as Baysmum doesn't want them that is!]

Baysmum · 30/03/2007 19:48

I DO want them - the Citizens ones anyway - am quite excited!

Ali5 · 30/03/2007 19:54

Buy Noppies instead - they're fab, mine were quite light material and did me through that hot spell last summer.
Had some under the bump styles ones from Mamas and Papas and they never did fit, only got more uncomfortable.

Tutter · 30/03/2007 21:13

baysmum they are 31s and you're welcome to them - there's no way i'll be back into them again now

wouldn't take anything for them as they are def "used" condition - denim fine but the band is pretty knackered - i yanked the elastic ages ago. would be absolutely fine worn with a bump band over the top to keep them snug though

do you want to CAT me and i'll get your address?

Baysmum · 30/03/2007 22:01

You are a total darling! Am a bit rubbish and can do CAT - do you want to mail me on [email protected] and we can swap details - I must at least send u postage. If you would prefer I CAT u then let me know and I will work it out!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Nath · 31/03/2007 14:26

Tutter - can you let me know where your friends boutique is? Am looking for something different to the high street for a wedding......I live in Essex?

badharry · 01/04/2007 12:04

TS jeans are rubbish!! I'm 25 weeks and they fall down the whole time, but still can't bring myself to wear the humpty dumpty/simon cowell nightmare combo of over the bump jeans!
If you have a New Look near you, their maternity stuff is fab and v cheap, and they usually have a big rail of reduced stuff too, hurrah!
They have totally saved me from feeling like a frumpy blimp!

jabuti · 01/04/2007 14:03

can i just add that i hate my TS jeans too!

i have to wear a belt to keep them up and as someone else said here, it totatlly defeats the purpose, so unconfortable! the other day i went to work wearing my sweat pants, not very glamorous if you ask me but i just couldnt be bothered putting those damn jeans. i cant wait until spring really arrives and i can wear skirts and dresses.

will look into new look ones....
