Where are your stretch marks?

Hi all :)

I'm currently 15+4 and I've just found my first stretch marks. No one told me I'd get them on the inside of my thighs lol! I have a few on my breasts (I think) on they're not as prominent as my thigh ones.

I'm just curious to know where yours might be and whether you have any in any strange or unexpected places?

Yeah - it's all chance. Despite not doing anything to try and prevent them I'm also lucky enough not have one after 3 births.

But.... Teenage DS 3 has quite bad ones around his hips - I suppose he must have had a growth spurt or something.

EmGee · 25/02/2017 14:50

I have not a single one from two pregnancies (I used tons of oil/cream and didn't put on much extra weight). However I did get them aged 14 on my bum. Bizarrely I was tiny and had no growth spurts so no idea why I got them.

mumofthemonsters808 · 25/02/2017 14:58

I've not got any either and my sister hasn't, I wonder if it is a genetic thing or just pot luck.

skerrywind · 25/02/2017 15:29

I have none yet my sister and mother are covered in them.

I heard it was to do with maternal age on first pregnancy? The older the mother the less likely the stretch marks- that rings true in my family, but not sure if it holds out for others.

DialUpMyNumber · 25/02/2017 15:31

Mine didn't appear until the last week of my pregnancy. Oh, how smug I had been before that Grin.

I got them in my lower belly, inner thighs (even some on my fanjo Shock) and breasts.

EweAreHere · 25/02/2017 15:32

Cocoa butter, be very generous.

3 children, no marks. I feel very lucky.

cookielove · 25/02/2017 15:35

I had none 😀

But I think that is because I had a bit of tum already and had some previous stretch marks from that and also I gave birth 6 weeks early so didn't get big big!

bigbuttons · 25/02/2017 15:50

I though it was something to do with collagen levels in skin, whether it stretches rather than tears. I am tiny and was huge with my 5th, twin size, but no stretch marks.

BalloonSlayer · 25/02/2017 17:21

I got stretch marks on my thighs when I was a teenager. I was only about 6½ stone at the time so it wasn't as if my thighs were doing a huge amount of stretching!

None at all with three pregnancies. I have always wondered if this was because I was over 35 with all pregnancies, whether you get them when you are younger? Skin certainly doesn't twang back into shape when you are older . . .

SpaceDuck · 25/02/2017 17:28

Everywhere Sad

MrsChopper · 25/02/2017 17:35

Cocoa butter did nothing to prevent mine. For ages I only had 3 on each side of my belly but towards the end of my pregnancy they got worse. I have a few on my hips. Most of them are on my belly and I have a few that go through my belly button. I also have a couple that go from my belly towards the lady garden area.
They were very red during pregnancy but 6 months later have faded loads.

My little DS was worth every one of them ❤

FurryLittleTwerp · 25/02/2017 18:29

I didn't get any. My mum got just one, right next to her appendix scar - it must have interfered with the stretching Grin

user1468957349 · 25/02/2017 18:35

I used garnier extra dry skin moisturising body cream twice a day from 20 weeks and didn't get any stretch marks. Thought I'd be covered as my mum had loads from her 2 pregnancies and my sister got quite a few too. The cream is really good and so much cheaper than so called specialised stretch mark creams! X

PastysPrincess · 25/02/2017 18:42

I have them everywhere. I even have some that look like little tick marks. My LO was a very big birthweight and my stomach was so stretched that when he dropped down it made the stretchmarks change direction.

bigbuttons · 25/02/2017 19:26

Creams and oils effect the epidermis not the dermis . It is the dermis that tears.

sailorcherries · 25/02/2017 22:38

My eldest is 6.5, my stretchmarks are still vividly red and I've had multiple health professionals say they will never fade to the silvery colour but should hopefully become faded pink (when this should happen I've no clue, I figured they'd be there by now).

They go literally from the bottom of my ribs to public bone, hip-to-hip across my stomach; sides of both my boobs; back of my arms; inside my thighs and on the front and back of my knees.

They're bad, but thankfully it means that even if I did get any more I wouldn't notice .... desperately trying to find the positives in such a shite dealing.

sailorcherries · 25/02/2017 22:40

I also use creams every single day over my entire body and have done since I was a teenager, they made no difference.

Ferrisday · 25/02/2017 22:47

I didn't get any and I was huge.
My mum had 3 big babies and didn't get any.
Pure luck - sorry

DontCallMeBaby · 25/02/2017 22:56

Silvery ones from adolescence on boobs and bum which I don't remember ever being red. Weird. Pregnancy ones which were red - left side of lower quadrant of belly. Not the other side. I do remember DD used to kick mainly to that side.

AudreyBradshaw · 26/02/2017 09:26

Meh, I'm covered in them from puberty 😅 got a few on my hips after 35 weeks, the ones on my stomach appeared post partum on the big deflate! My skin doesn't have enough elastane, no amount of bio oil is going to make any difference to that as the skin tears deep down nowhere near the surface.

(Although alway moisturise because dry itchy skin when you're any ready super pregnant and uncomfortable is no joke!)

squizita · 26/02/2017 10:07

Mine appeared in the last 2 weeks. Still there.

Some people talk twaddle about it being to do with weight/size. I am 5"2, 26 inch waist. Fit into my pre-baby stuff 6 months after birth.

It's genetic and there isn't that much you can do. If you didn't get them you're just lucky!

1frenchfoodie · 26/02/2017 10:31

Couple above hips and a couple either side below my belly button. Didn't get any until 39wks but gave birth at 40+15 so that gave time for a few more to appear Smile. Pretty faded even though DD is not yet a year old.

PacificDogwod · 26/02/2017 10:34

Outside of my breasts and upper thighs - all acquired in my teens when I developed and gained some weight.

None in 4 pregnancies Grin

It's all down to gene. A genetic predisposition to more or less flexible/stretchy connective tissue.
Creams/oils, massaging etc etc have nothing to do with it, but keep a huge market going.... Hmm

lucyanne2308 · 26/02/2017 11:12

Didn't get any during pregnancy. Not a single one on my tummy, which is a miricle as I got lots during a growth spurt in my teenage years. I have them on my knees, upper thighs & breasts.

kel1234 · 26/02/2017 11:21

I didn't get any until very late on, and they were at the bottom of my stomach, and a couple on each hip. That was it
