Anybody still pregnant after heavy bleeding?

Hi everyone.
So I was just wondering if there are any of you who had been in a similar position to me. I found out I was pregnant last week after 16 months of TTC. Then almost immediately after finding out, I started to spot. The spotting got heavier and there were clots the next day and period like cramping. This lasted 3 days. It's now stopped. I did go to the doctors on the first day of bleeding and he said to prepare for the worst and come back in 2 weeks if things don't get dramatically worse. I am too early to scan only being 4 weeks pregnant. So 5 days after my first test (which was a faint positive followed up by a digital to confirm) I did another test. This time the line is much darker. I'm holding on to hope that this means I'm still pregnant. I know it's a long shot but I just can't help it. I'm currently on holiday. We arrived 4 days after bleeding started. I can't quite relax with not knowing plus I swear I have morning sickness as everything is making me feel sick.
Anyway. If there's anyone that's experienced similar and was still pregnant please let me know.

Me! Can't reply now but will come back!

I don't want to give false hope as i've been through a mc as well but with my current pg (37+5) this happened to me, almost exactly the same.
As i'd lost one previously I didn't go the drs immediately and just left it, very heavy bleeding including passing what i'm fairly sure was a sac and everything related to loss.
2 weeks later I went to my GP's as things weren't quite right - so they sent me to the epu in case it was an incomplete mc and I needed surgery.
One of the very few 'whaaaaaat.,' moments when they scanned me and then showed me my baby still there, healthy hb and 7+ weeks!
Turns out if it is fraternal twins you can lose one and the other can survive!
It was precarious until we were past the 12 week mark as there was a huge hole in the womb lining and there was a possibility it could come away and drag the other baby with it but judging from the kicking i'm getting at the moment, this one is a fighter and didn't want to go.
So there is hope still, you will find lots of us have had very heavy bleeding throughout and still have babies/viable pg's at the end of it all.
Apparently it is very common to sometimes just have clots that pass for no discernable reason as well.
I would say just try not to test, and try to relax until you get a scan and i've got my fingers and toes crossed for you Flowers

Hi OP,

I was on holiday in France in May (on top of a mountain of all places) when I experienced a very heavy bleed at what would have been sometime between 6-8 weeks. Bright red blood and loads of it. It came out in a gush and went everywhere. It stopped the same day. With a history of 3 concurrent mcs I assumed the worst and began living my life as a non-pregnant woman. I even started taking the pill as I was fed up and not wanting to go through it all again.

Fast forward to 4 weeks ago when I started to notice my tummy getting big. Did a pregnancy test and it came back with a very dark positive which baffled me as I had been taking Cerezette and very carefully. Rushed to the hospital for a scan and was told I was 16 weeks. I'd been pregnant all along and despite a bleed that I would never have thought a pregnancy could survive I had not lost my baby.

I had my 20 week scan yesterday and everything is fine despite me drinking wine, taking the pill, eating all the banned foods and God knows what else.

I hope the outcome is the same for you with this bleed. I have found out at my 20 week scan that my placenta is low lying over my cervix - I am wondering if that was the cause of my early problem. It has also been suggested to me by the consultant that I could have lost a twin.

My bleed was huge but short lived. I am not sure in the panic if there were clots. Also, there was no pain or cramping. I have had pain-free mcs before though so this didn't make me suspicious.

Good luck Flowers

Hi OP

So I have had three very heavy bleeds at 5/6, 9 and 10 weeks (similar to what the PP described). I was diagnosed with subchorionic haematoma at 6 weeks, which is still there (albeit a bit smaller), but the baby has been fine after each weekly scan.

I thought I was losing the pregnancy every time and it is very scary. I don't want to get your hopes up tho, as my big bleeds always only lasted a few hours (then lots of brown spotting in between, but that's expected with an SCH). I haven't had cramping, or if I have its been very mild. How much do you think you bled over the few days?

I wouldn't rely on a pregnancy test as hormones can stay in your system for a while even where it's a mc. I would try and get an appt with your local EPU so they can have a look at what is going on. Mine scanned me at 5 weeks.

Fingers crossed for you OP - there's hope yet.

Barefootcontessa84 · 31/08/2016 08:54

Also I haven't passed any clots, but I hear that it is normal to do so with SCH.

smellsofelderberries · 01/09/2016 01:44

I lost a huge clot at about 6.5 weeks with this pregnancy. Had been bleeding for a few days then started having contractions and it came out, followed by a few smaller ones. After a MMC 2 months prior, I expected the worst but at a scan 5 days later all was well. Was diagnosed with a subchorionic haematoma and bleed on and off until 11.5 weeks. Am now 29+5 and haven't had a problem since!

cooltobeginger · 01/09/2016 12:30

Thank you so much ladies.

I didn't bleed as a normal period but it was definitely more than spotting. I called my doctor from my holiday and he said to do another pregnancy test when I'm home. If it's still positive he will book me in for a scan.

Xxx

Me - massive bleed at 6 weeks full of clots and with back ache which lasted 3/4 days. Went on holiday so didn't bother going to the hospital for a scan knowing it must have been a miscarriage.

6 weeks later still showing up as positive on tests (knew it could take weeks to not show up as positive) and a clearblue test said I was plus 5 weeks which was odd. Then thought it must be retained products. Dr referred me for a scan and found out I was nearly 12 weeks with identical twins.

daisygirlmac · 01/09/2016 12:49

I had a massive bleed about 6 weeks, mc last year so you can imagine the panic. Definitely try and get referred to the EPU they have been fab with me and have no problem with early scans, emergency scans or just being reassuring over the phone. I'm 18 weeks now!

cooltobeginger · 05/09/2016 14:43

Hi, just wanted to put a bit of an ending to my original post. So I returned home from my holiday and did a pregnancy test which was negative so it was definitely a miscarriage. I'm just glad I have a definite answer because the not knowing has been driving me mad. Thanks to everyone who replied to me xx

Don't rely on a pregnancy test as my pregnancy tests came back positive for 3 weeks after I miscarried. If you ask for a blood test at the doctors they can monitor your HCG levels which should be doubling every day if you are pregnant. The first blood test will be a good indication considering the time period but they will repeat to confirm.

cathy1412 · 27/09/2018 16:40

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are trying to conceive but am going through something relatively confusing at the moment.
My last period began on 28th August 2018. I bled for 6 days and my husband and I tried to conceive straight after AF as that is usually when I ovulate. I have been feeling nauseous and vomiting every morning since Friday 7th September 2018 and the nausea and vomting usually starts around 8am and goes at around 1pm. This happens every day so much so I could set an alarm! I have also has tender breasts/nipples, slight tugging in my lower absomen (not painful just feels like my stomach is being stretched).
Aunto Flo was due 21st September but I was late. I began spotting a little on the Saturday (nothing much at all, only when I wiped). Then on the evening of Tuesday 25th September I began bleeding very heavily and had very bad cramps. I thought the worst but went to bed hoping that it would be gone by the morning. The next morning the cramps had gone but the bleeding was still very heavy, so much so that I was going through a pad every 2 hours. The bleeding had no visible clots, just very red and runny, nothing like my normal period. I usually bleed heavily but nothing like this. On Wednesday morning I decided to take a pregnancy test as I had not taken one yet and the first one came back with a faint positive line. I thought I was seeing things so took another and to my amazement there was another faint second line. I went to my GP who has sent me for a blood test to check my hCG but I am confused as I have still continued to feel nauseous and vomit and had all the other pregnancy symptoms over the past few days. My GP said that I was possibly having a miscarriage or that I may be experiencing “normal bleeding” as she put it! Has anyone else gone through anything like this? If so any success stories?
Thanks in advance,
Cathy

@cathy1412 not sure if you'll see this, but what was the outcome? X

Tiniestsky · 24/11/2018 14:52

Or is anyone still here that can report back?

Hi Marie how did you get on?
I’m 5 weeks now and had pinking brown blood on Sunday and now I have a lot of fresh red blood and had one big clot this morning. Nothing on a pan only when I wipe. Sore lower back. Any advice would be great!

EBJ19 · 06/02/2020 12:20

Hi Jemstar1820
I’m just wondering how you got on
From my last period I’m suppose to be around 4-5 weeks With 3 positive home pregnancy tests earlier this week . I hadn’t gone to the doctors until today and thankfully I had an appointment but I woke up this morning with medium light pink bleeding I got my bloods done my HCG levels were around 15 mark , I have had heavy bleeding later on today but only when I go to the toilet nothing in my pad. Hoping all went well for you xx

Emileebee · 14/04/2020 13:50

@cathy1412

I doubt you will see this but I have had an almost identical experience to yours and wondered how things turned out for you ? 😬 please help !

cathy1412 · 14/04/2020 14:29

Hi all,

Wow, September 2018 seems like an age ago!
The experience I originally posted about turned sadly to be a miscarriage. However, at that point I had only just had surgery 8 weeks prior to conceiving so I put it down to my body just not being ready.
Following this my husband and I decided that we would wait a few months and began trying again in January 2019. I used the Ovaview ovulation strips and so knew when I was ovulating. Needless to say I conceived in January 2020 and now have a beautiful 6 month old baby girl. 6 weeks into the pregnancy I did experience some bleeding and rang the Early Pregnancy Unit at my local hospital and they booked me in for a scan that morning. Turns out that the bleeding was just implantation bleeding and nothing to worry about. I gave birth to a beautiful and health baby girl in October, so there is light at the end of the tunnel everyone! One thing to note that helped during conception was that the month I conceived I had decided not to stress about getting pregnant anymore and that it would happen when it happened. Funny how life works eh!
I wish you all the best of luck and am available if anyone has any questions :) x

cathy1412 · 14/04/2020 14:31

I also forgot to mention that I took a pregnancy test the day that my period was due and I had the faintest positive line. It took about a week to 10 days for it to come out in bold.

Catm123 · 25/04/2020 23:19

Hi, I’m 6 weeks pregnant and I’ve bleeding over the last few days, been a range of pink brown and red blood it’s not as heavy as my usual period but it’s not light either, sometimes there are tiny clots you can barely even see them, I’ve been to the hospital and still testing positive and got a scan booked, been getting pain too, I’m worried anyone know what could be happening?

Goldenmother · 26/04/2020 15:35

I had a heavy bleed at 7 weeks although to me it was just once wipe of blood when I went to hospital the early pregnancy unit they said I had a big bleed I was told to come back a week later in that time I didn't see any blood when I went back for a check up and scan I was still bleeding but the blood was being absorbed in my body so that explained why I wasn't aware I was still bleeding this continued for 3 weeks then it stopped I'm currently 32 weeks so please have hope

Wisi1982 · 28/04/2020 05:27

Dr are running lot of blood tests yesterday he said I will have another blood tested today as the previous one it does not look good. I am praying for good news finger crossed.

newmumtobejo · 29/04/2020 17:13

Hi all,
I took 2 tests 3 days ago that confirmed I was pregnant including a digital clear blue, fast forward 2 days I woke up to bleeding and am on the 3rd day of bleeding. It contains clots now and again, and I just took another test (afternoon so don’t know how accurate) and it says negative. Of course can’t help but worry and there are just so many answers out there and I’m new to all this. I was on the contraceptive injection for many years and decided to come off 2 years ago due to trying to conceive, but it took just over year to get a somewhat period back, and until only recently normal. Can’t help but think of the worst but please if there is anyone out there that had similar bleeding but still went on to have healthy babies?
Sorry also forgot to add I did call the EPU, and she has confirmed I’m 5 weeks pregnant

Pretty26 · 24/08/2020 07:21

Hi all,
I had sex and my partner release in me. I thought I was pregnant but 16 days later my period started which is very disappointing because I already thought I was pregnant. What is happening now is that I'm through with the period, it lasted the normal days my period last but 4 days later I started bleeding although it's very light just some spotting and I'm having sore breast with painful cramps. The bleeding have lasted 4 days now and still counting. I don't know what's really happening, any idea or suggestion pls.
