ahhhh!!!!! Moses basket. confused..

We went shopping today and I am confused about Moses baskets. They either seemed too small or not secure enough on the stand or tacky looking. I am after something of a decent size, rocking base, nice looking and not too expensive.
Nearly went with a lovely rocking crib but OH pointed out it would have to stay upstairs whereas a Moses basket can be moved off the stand and around.
If anyone could be so kind as to recommend anything that would be greatly appreciated by this indecisive, clueless first time mum

Hey I'm a first time mum too! I'm not bothering with Moses basket getting a Chicco next to me have you seen them look amazing people have said to me there only in it few weeks and il find something for them to be in in day maybe one of them bean bag that they can be strapped into xx hope this helps xx

Honestly they're in a Moses basket for such a short amount of time I think you're putting too much thought into it

There are also somethings called a snooze pod that rock :-)

We had a chiccco next to me (didn't get it for the purpose of attaching to the bed) but because it's bigger than a Moses basket but smaller than a cot, (therefore lasts longer we got 6 months out of ours before moved to a cot) is easily portable (e.g. Folds away and comes in a carry bag) plus our baby really seemed to like it - no issues with them sleeping in it

Also think about what pushchair/pram you're getting as this can be used for daytime naps!

You don't need a Moses basket.
DS grew out of it in 3 weeks.
DD hated it.
You are not meant to carry them around - too flimsy, handles liable to snap etc.
Your baby can sleep downstairs in the pram carry cot.

I used the crib upstairs and the pram top on a stand downstairs.

We had a crib for upstairs - both DC fitted into it until after 6 months old, so we got our money's worth out of it.

For downstairs, we had a pushchair with a carrycot attachment, so they often went in the carrycot in the daytime when not being held.

To be fair, you might need a Moses basket but it's probably a good idea to borrow one if possible to begin with, to see if you actually get any use out of it. My son napped well in the one we had downstairs and we probably used it for 2-3 months or so (he was arouns 75th centile). But as others have pointed out, your pram carrycot might do the same job (although very few are certified safe for overnight sleeping) and personally I'd recommend a co-sleeping crib such as the Bednest or Snuzpod, or a rocking crib like the one you mention.

Bought a second hand moses basket and a new mattress; it lived in one position downstairs and gave me the luxury of putting the baby down safely to run to the loo! Upstairs, we had a more sturdy cot attached to the bed.

We had a Moses basket which we'd borrowed from a friend. We used it approximately 5 times. DD ended up cosleeping with us, and by the time we decided to stop that, she was much too big for a basket so went on a mattress on the floor next to our (low) bed.

This time around we're accepting that we will be cosleeping from the beginning and have bought a Chicco next2me.

We used the pram carrycot downstairs either on the pram wheels or a Moses basket stand, depending which room it was in. Then just had a normal cot upstairs. I never really understood the whole Moses basket thing, don't think I could have been bothered carrying it up and down stairs every day. Also seemed like a waste of money to get something they would outgrow in a few months and put it next to a perfectly good cot. We didn't have room in our bedroom for both.

We used a schnuggle and dd got on very well with it. It's a bit bigger than a standard moses basket. Also because it is plastic it's easier to clean.

Never had a Moses basket at all.

We did, however, have a pram with a detachable basonette. This was brilliant because if he fell asleep while we were out walking, I just carried him in still sleeping. It doubled up as a portable moses basket untill he outgrew it at 6mo.

We had his cot-bed in our bedroom with a Sleepyhead Deluxe💤. I highly recommend this amazing sleep cozy.

Thank you so much everyone. I had originally looked at a snuz pod or a chicco next to me, but was worried I would be spending over the odds. We purchased a mamas a papas travel system today which comes with a carry cot thing, they said it's only for supervised sleeping. So much to think about

Yeah use your carrycot for naps. When your baby has outgrown it he/she can nap in bed or wherever.

Recommend a crib for upstairs. He's just outgrown it at 5 months and he's on 50th centile. We were lent a Moses basket which we used for naps. He outgrew it by 12 weeks.

I feel your pain. I felt like it was impossible to know what you needed pramwise, cotwise, prep/sterilising machineswise... Spent weeks researching. We didn't bother with a moses basket and rented a bednest which is great, and got a rocker which is in-dis-pen-sable. Baby has basically lived in it. No one told us you had to have somewhere to put the baby down! And we also got a sleepyhead which is amazing and fits in the bednest. If I could only have two things it would be these:

oh meant to say our pram came with a carrycot which LO slept in quite badly for the first few weeks until we got the sleepyhead. Useful but I think she was uncomfortable in it - too cold and hard.

My 5 month old is sleeping next to me in a moses basket. Are you all buying small baskets or do you have massive babies, because there is plenty of room left in mine?

By the time we moved DS out of his he was literally touching all 4 sides of his
He was 8lb 11oz born and at his 12 week check was 13lb so not massive, how big is your baby?

She was 7lb born and is about 14-15lb or so now? I'm guessing though, she hasn't been weighed for a good while
