whooping cough vaccine

I had the vaccine this morning on the advice of the mw - and then stupidly googled it. now I am a little bit worried about some of the stuff I've read, even though I've always been pro-vaxxing; I think pregnancy has taken away all my rationality!

did most people here have it/plan to have it, or has anyone had it before?

I had it, everything was fine.
Googles not the best place to look when pregnant- I was a worried ft pregnant mum and Google almost gave me a heart attack on more than one occasion!

I think most people have it? I've never been one to question modern medicine and if it's advised I'll take it (had mine done 2 days ago). Whether I'm wrong to just accept what I'm told is another matter but I couldn't risk baby getting whooping cough.

I had it when I was pg with DS (I had it at 38 weeks as my MW forgot to give me it at 28 weeks, but that's a different story!) and didn't question it. 1st timer, just went with what I was told, didn't occur to me to Google it.

I'm booked in to have it done on Tuesday for this pregnancy. Still haven't Googled it, but now I'm wondering whether there's something I should know about? Anyone care to enlighten me?

i absolutely do not recommend googling it - i wish i hadn't, I'm an idiot! i think we have to trust the advice we are given by professionals.

I would defo have it when the time comes, dh had whopping cough as a baby (at a few weeks old) and almost didnt make it.

I had mine with my boy he is fine and I was fine. And I will be having it worh this one too I don't have the flu jab though

I had vaccine and DS is perfectly healthy. More risk for babies health I feel not having it..

Two babies in my area died of wc, but none have died from the vaccine.

Even if my baby were to never catch it, I'd hate to have passed it onto someone else's child.

One of the reasons child mortality is so very low in 1st world countries in modern times is our access to and uptake of vaccines.

Considering the amount of crap we're happy to subject our children to (car fumes due to driving our children every damn place - my neighbours are terrors for it) flame retardant chemicals in fabrics, chemicals in cleaning products, etc etc etc, worrying about something as life-saving as vaccines seems ludicrous.

It's not even been mentioned to me yet and I'm 33 weeks. Mind you, I've never seen the same midwife twice.

I had it done, had to book with the nurse instead of the midwife though. I felt there was no 'excuse' for not having it done to be honest. Anything was better than risking my baby getting whooping cough. My arm was sore for days after though, reminded me of been given a 'dead arm' as a kid . Other than that, no it's not one to worry about in my opinion.

I had it last pregnancy, and had it this pregnancy. Both times I had a slightly sore arm for a couple of days and that's it, aside from the obvious my baby being protected from whooping cough for the first few weeks.

Step away from google!

I had it at 28 weeks, after doing a load of research on it. Ultimately I feel the benefits massively outweigh the chance of any negative side effects occurring. In fact I couldn't find any plausible evidence for the latter. I did feel a bit shit the next day, but all good after that :-)

Benefits outweigh any negatives. Whooping cough is really bad for babies and has made something of a come back.

When are you meant to have it? I vaguely recall MW mentioning it at booking appointment and was happy to go ahead, not least as I've not had it not been vaccinated against it before. But now 33 weeks and no mention since.

I had it at 30wks. No side effects or problems at all.

I was vaccinated when I had ds in 2003 with no adverse effects.

I caught whooping cough when I was 2 years old and even now if I get a really chesty cough I still whoop a little..

Hi op I was worried too but read up on it as much as possible and felt benefits outweighed the risk. I hate the horror stories that can be found online too! X

I didn't have it withDS1 as it wasn't routinely offered then. Did haven't with DS2 as incidences had increased - there's no difference between the pair of them. Had it today (at 33wks) with DC3. Arm a little dull it otherwise no adverse reaction at all. Delighted to protect not just my child, but other vulnerable children and adults

Anti vaxxers use arguments based on nothing. They are completely illogical and scientifically illiterate.

They tend to claim that breast milk, organic food, playing out in the dirt and not being overly hygienic, yogurt drinks etc protect babies. This is quite simply a dangerous lie...if that's the case why are the diseases we vaccinate against prevalent in 3rd world countries?

The other day my mum in law told me not to push myself too hard and when I got indignant about it she said your actions and activities are affecting two people now, that's my grandchild in there! And it dawned on me this isn't just my baby who's a little hitchhiker in my body, this is an independent separate life to me (weird that it only dawned on me then haha!!).

I have to make decisions and actions that are taking into consideration the child, not my own 'beliefs'...this is what anti vaxxers don't get. A couple I know are anti vax and their child hasn't been vaccinated for anything. but as babies they were vaccinated so if there's an outbreak they'll be fine and their child will die or be severely disabled.

On a second note, I am disabled and have to be immunosuppressed. Reading through my maternity notes it says after the birth families and children are allowed to visit. I won't have any children visiting me, but my biggest, biggest fear is if disease riddle unsafe children who have not been vaccinated are allowed on the ward where my baby is. I am absolutely, utterly terrified that these diagusting disease carriers will kill my baby. When my baby grows up and goes to school if they have friends at school who are unvaccinated there's no way I'll have that child round at my house for play dates or dinner...I'm a high risk ill individual and I won't allow potentially dangerous children in my house.

my friend has whooping cough at the moment. Her partner got it at 38 and passed it onto her. It's been horrific. I'd advise anyone to get it.

I've been told to book in for mine before my 28 week check.

A hcp friend of mine told me that there have been outbreaks locally and she wouldn't hesitate to get it I'm my position. Whooping cough is nasty and there's little you can do about it other than let it ride it's course. I think it's one of those that unless you get a firm diagnosis very quickly (which is hard to do timing wise) treatments are limited.

I vaugely recall that it includes a tetanus boost as well so probably a good idea for that as well.
