What is the worst that could happen on 20 weeks scan ?

I know a lot have asked about what goes on on 20 weeks scan and that they are anxious some scarred- well so am I and mine is on wed.

What is the worst news that you could receive on 12 weeks scan ?

I meant 20 week scan ...

I understand it's an anxious time but asking this kind of question really wont help calm your nerves!

Perhaps it'd be more helpful to think that usually everything is fine on the 20 week scan? That it's unlikely that there will be any problems?

Is that really a question you want a range if answers to?

Our 20 week scan showed dt1 merrily kicking dt2 in the head..... A lot

Deep breath. Your growing a person its hard work so be kind to yourself what ifs are not good to dwell on.

I seriously want to know so that I can prepare myself for good and hopefully not but bad news too

You can be told your child has a condition that is incompatible with life. Two days later you could be delivering them on a maternity ward.

You can't prepare yourself for anything, but olives is right.

Try and remember that something wrong is rare.

I'm sure if you think about it for under a minute you can guess what is the worst news you could get at a scan. Also you might want to remember that there are women on here who have had those experiences and its a little crass to ask the question in that manner.

Do you REALLY want answers to this? Glaringly and heartbreakingly obvious - it probably won't be you but go prepared.

Please do not do this to yourself. Most women have a straightforward 20 week scan, some do not.

In your maternity notes you will find a pink sheet with a list of body parts and measurements that they are looking for and they will record what they find on the sheet .

If they find any anomalies they will tell you and support you .

Cheshire, you could be told words you've never heard before, you could learn thing you didn't know you needed to know. And then 3 years later you can look at your child and think, "Well, thank goodness we got to wake up out of that nightmare."

You made a big mistake posting this op. Now go away and think happy thoughts. Sorry to be so blunt, but there may well be women reading this who have had to face the worst and my sympathy goes to them.

I understand it's a nervous time but don't think like this. Honestly just don't.

mayaknew - yes I remember a checklist thing. One of the things on it was something like 'No brain' - or basically, missing one of the vital organs. So that must be up there with 'the worst' but as others have said, you would be very unlucky to see anything like that.

I'm just anxious . My partner has brain hemorage history in his family and he had arrhythmia. I've felt some movement around 16-18 weeks and now all the wriggles and flutters have faded. My boobs don't hurt as much neither and I shouldn't be doing this to myself but been feeling poorly and not eating well put 1and 1 together I feel like I'm not going to get the best of news :-(

My 7 and 12 weeks scan were all ok but I'm still quite nervous and quite scarred that I'm making myself ill .

P.s sorry I don't mean to bring back bad memories to anyone or cause any pain - just need to know for my own sanity as do far I feel like I'm losing the plot

Is this your first pregnancy? I honestly think you should go in to your scan full of joy and hope.

Nothing can ever prepare you for bad news so don't even try.

Oh Cheshire I'm so sorry that was an unfortunate cross post.
