Your midwife can help you with any worries you have, be very honest about how anxious you feel. Have a good sleep x

Cheshire I agree with pp in that you can't prepare for this stuff. I just wanted to say I think its perfectly normal to be anxious though. I was incredibly nervous at both scans.

Be prepared for things to take a while, and possibly to have to return another time if baby is in an odd position. Mine was and a few crucial things couldn't be checked. At the second attempt it took an age for the sonographer to find the kidneys. I lay there feeling utterly helpless and bereft. She did find them though and so far all seems well. (37 + 3 now)

Good luck.

Its an anomoly scan, so as you know they are checking if your baby is developing normally. As i see it there are 5 main possible outcomes:

  1. Baby appears to developing perfectly - this is the most likely outcome
  2. Baby has a relatively minor problem such as a cleft palate or misformed limb - things that can be sorted or lived with
  3. Baby could have a serious health problem such as a hole in the heart but it can be operated on at birth
  4. Baby has an incompatible with life condition and you will have to decide to tfmr or carry to term
  5. Baby has already died

The chances are everything is fine chesire. I understand wanting to know worst case scenario, i read up on the main 12 things they are checking for in advance so i felt more prepared. Not sure it helps though.

Its magical seeing them on the screen at this stage. Do be aware though that they spend a long time looking at things in detail v quietly. I started to worry they had found a heart defect as she was watching the heart chambers for so long and applying different filters to the screen but it was all normal.

Good luck. Try and relax and enjoy.

Just read your second post: Dont worry about reduced movement at this stage. Baby is far too little to start worrying about that. Id felt barely anything around 20 weeks. At 24 weeks i now have a bit more of a pattern and get small wiggles and pushes after i have eaten and in the eve but some days hardly anything. You are not meant to worry about patterns in movement until 3rd tri as i understand it.

In terms of boobs, mine were so sore they hurt if i brushed against something in the first tri. But for a couple of months now they have basically felt normal.

Dont worry, im sure all will be well Flowers

Thank you everyone for your support and comments on this thread. Went to my 20 weeks scan this morning and everything was spot on, in line with measurements apart from beanster was facing downwards so have to go back for them to get clear pictures of the heart though we did see it - they couldn't get clear view of the heart chambers all that worry for nothing but have raised it with my consultant.

One thing though I've got low uterus that they have to monitor and did add a thread a while back that they discovered I have 2 fibroids but those haven't grown since 12 weeks scan.

They are going to keep an eye on me which is great and I'm feeling such a relief going make myself a nice kiwi mock tail and celebrate :-)
