hey guys, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster...I'll be 6 weeks pregnant tomorrow after trying for 2 years, however I started bleeding on Wednesday, the doctor has referred me for a scan at EPU Monday and has told me its a threatened miscarriage. Needless to say oh and I are both terrified and I've spent the last few days googling everything I can think of...What I really want to know though, if anyone doesn't mind sharing their experience is,

1-How long did your threatened miscarriage last?

2-What was the outcome?

Thanks for reading guys

Hello kitten I'm sorry your going through this I know it's really stressful especially after ttc for so long. Flowers

I had browny red coloured spotting for 2 day had to wait over the weekend and went to epu on the Monday. All turned out to be fine.

Hope it all works out ok. Try to rest and be kind to yourself.

Kittenjones · 11/04/2015 07:43

Thank you so much, that helps a lot Smile

I bled every day for three weeks from six and a half weeks pg. it was terrifying, particularly as I had miscarried before, but the baby made it.

Kittenjones · 11/04/2015 07:48

Thanks so much eurochick! Did they find out what caused anyone's bleeding? It's all so scary and stressful...The waiting is horrendous too :(

I had a threatened mc with my first. I had a quite a big bleed (a gush like starting a heavy period) at 9 weeks I went to the hospital who examined me internally and said that my cervix were closed which was good but there was red blood which was not so good.
It was Friday and they couldn't scan me until Monday so sent me home. I continued to bleed but brown old blood for about 4 days. I didn't dare move all weekend even though they said nothing would prevent a mc happening if it was going to happen it would.
I went for the scan on Monday and couldn't believe it when I saw a little bean with a heartbeat! She's 9 now and sat on the sofa next to me yawning because she stayed up too late last night:)

I have also had three mcs at 6 weeks they started with a bleed then cramping followed a few hours. Everyone experiences mc's a bit differently but for me there was no mistaking what was happening.

Good luck I have everything crossed for a good outcome for you the waiting is just awful Flowers

I had three bleeds in the first trimester with DS2 - it was terrifying, especially as I'd recently had a miscarriage - they never worked out what was causing it. All the nurse said was that pregnancy is 'very vascular' and she was surprised more women didn't have some bleeding.

Anyway, he'll be 1 in May so it turned out fine - I hope yours does too!

Murphy29 · 11/04/2015 08:25

I've had 4 mmc and 1 successful pregnancy. The one where I had quite a lot of red blood through the night at 6+2 was the successful one. I'd had a scan at 5+6 due to history of missed mc and saw a heartbeat and then got scanned again the day after the bleed and still fine Smile they thought there was an area of bleeding but it never happened again and no sign of it in the many future scans.

Good luck, hope it works out well for you.

CorBlimeyTrousers · 11/04/2015 08:25

Hello. I had light bleeding on and off from week 6 to nearly week 12 with my son. I had a scan at 6 weeks that I thought would definitely show I'd lost the pregnancy but they saw a heartbeat. Then at 8 weeks there was a clot and I definitely thought things were over but another scan was fine. No cause for the bleeding was seen. The bleeding stopped just before my 12 week scan. He is now 4 years old and on the sofa next to me :)

I later had two biochemical pregnancies (positive pregnancy test then bleeding and scan showed no pregnancy). We later went for IVF and the consultant thought they and the bleeding in pregnancy might have been due to low progesterone levels.

I hope everything works out for you.

boatrace30 · 11/04/2015 08:26

I also had bleeding. Light at first (I was four weeks and thought it was AF). Then very heavy the following week. Doctor said threatened miscarriage. Went to EPU. First scan was inconclusive (be prepared for that). But this did show a blood clot which was the source of the bleed. Then had blood tests at 48hour intervals to monitor hcg. This doubled so was re scanned a week later and there was a tiny blob with a heartbeat! Now 32 weeks and baby is not so tiny! Bleeding continued lightly for a further 3-4 weeks, bit by 12 week scan the clot was all gone! Good luck. Hope you have a good outcome.

ChatEnOeuf · 11/04/2015 09:21

Each pregnancy I've had threatened miscarriage - two have ended in MC (both times the bleeding got heavier and heavier over a few days), two have clung on. First time there was a haemorrhagic cyst and and an area of bleeding near the embryo, this last time the theory is that it was a twin pregnancy (my third pregnancy, second MC was also twins) and one had miscarried but the other was fine.

willnotbetamed · 11/04/2015 19:53

I had bleeding from 7 weeks with DS1 - was just a tiny bit of spotting to start with, but at 9 weeks suddenly actual red blood. Scan at the hospital showed the pregnancy was still there, and the bleeding stopped after a few days of resting up. DS1 is seven now. Have my fingers crossed for a happy outcome for you.

TakesTwoToTango · 11/04/2015 20:41

In my first pg I started spotting at 7 wks. Within 12 hrs it was heavy red blood, and clearly a mc.

With my 2nd and 3rd pgs I had red/brown spotting on and off from 6wks to about 20 wks. No cause ever found but both babies born healthy at term.

In his pg I've been bleeding/spotting (heavyish and red at first then brown) for three weeks now. Have had two scans at 6 weeks and 9 weeks and all is fine with the bean. A small area of bleeding can apparently be seen outside the sac where part of the placenta implantation has caused a bit of bleeding. I have been told that more than likely this will resolve itself and cause no problems.

Good luck with your pg. spotting does not always mean the worst!

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/04/2015 20:46

Only a day.
The dr told me to rest for a week and do ad little as possible,I had an earky scan, and everything was fine.
Good luck xx.

CommanderShepard · 11/04/2015 20:54

Pregnancy 1: bright red bleed at 12 weeks; DD now 2.11.
2: brown spotting at 5 weeks, progressing to red 2 days later; scan revealed miscarriage.
3: brown spotting from 4 weeks up til 9 weeks - 18 weeks pregnant on Monday.

Threatened miscarriage is a medical term, as I understand it; it's doctor for "there's PV bleeding but we don't know what's happening yet so it might be bad but equally might be OK". Good luck and I'm thinking of you Flowers

eastcoastmum2014 · 11/04/2015 21:06

I had a bleed at 8 weeks, had a scan at EPU, found foetus the right size with heart beat. Then bled again at 10 weeks, didn't go back to hospital as was too scared to find pit what might have happened. The final outcome is the three month old that is currently playing in her bouncer :)

Kittenjones · 12/04/2015 09:11

Thank you so much for all your responses guys and I'm so sorry to hear about some of your losses Flowers

You've all helped me relax a little bit about tomorrow and I'll update after we hopefully have some answers! Smile

Hiya, I've had two, very different. First is a bit of a horror story - I started bleeding at 10.5 weeks, and continued to bleed lightly for nearly a month. During that month I had three inconclusive scans, before they finally agreed with me that this should be considered a miscarriage, and offered me a choice of a) continuing to wait and bleed, b) medical management, and c) surgical management. Having spent a month trying to get on with normal life and work while a bleeding hormonal mess with nappy rash from wearing a sanitary towel for so long, I chose surgical management. I waited a further 5 days for surgery, and was off work for the day of surgery plus three days recovery, and stopped bleeding about 5 days after surgery.

The second story is a happy one. I was woken in the night by extremely painful cramps and heavy bleeding at 6 weeks. I tried to go to work anyway, but had an extremely nasty accident cycling to work and ended up being taken in an ambulance to emergency, where I got sent for an emergency scan... And was UTTERLY SHOCKED to see a heartbeat. I stopped bleeding three days later, and a scan a week later showed a healthy and growing baby. I'm currently about 23 weeks, have had four subsequent scans, and everything seems 100% healthy.

5hell · 12/04/2015 10:16

Hi Kitten,
I'm in a very similar situation, so completely understand your worry. I too started bleeding on wednesday and it has carried on since, no pain, still feeling queasy, thirsty and tired, but the longer it continues the more worried I am. I have an appointment at the EPU on tuesday am - and it cant come quick enough! Fingers crossed for us both.

It is comforting to hear others have had prolonged bleeding and a positive outcome. Pregnancy really is sent to test us - patience, sanity, physically!!

dementedma · 12/04/2015 10:21

Bleeding at 12 weeks, fairly heavy. Kept in hospital overnight and told it was a mc. Scan next day picked up heartbeat. He is now 13!

Partyringer · 12/04/2015 10:43

Id had IVF and two embryos put back. Had horrible brown bleed at 6 weeks then nothing, had one healthy baby.

2nd round of IVF, had red blood running to my knees at 11 weeks, delivered healthy twins.

Harleyjosh · 12/04/2015 12:56

Firstly good luck Kitten and 5hell - I know how frightening it is.
First pregnancy I had some spotting at 5 weeks - went to EPU and they could see 5 week old blob but too early for heartbeat.Spotting continued on and off and I went back again at 8 weeks and there was a heartbeat. Spotting eventually stopped at 10 weeks and she is now 13.
Second pregnancy - same story - spotting at 7 - scanned and a heartbeat found but at 9 weeks I suddenly had a massive bleed and EPU confirmed no heartbeat the next day.
Two months later - third pregnancy - no spotting but I was terrified until 12 week mark - she is now 10 and a half.
I will say a prayer for you both.

Carrierpenguin · 12/04/2015 13:15

At six weeks I had a sudden massive gush of blood/clots, I had no warning and due to the amount of blood and clots I assumed I had miscarried. I went to the early pregnancy unit and they scanned me a few days later, only to find there was still a healthy embryo and heartbeat!

The bleeding gradually went away after the big gushes, it probably lasted a few days. I had a little bit more bleeding at 9/10 weeks but none since then, I'm 25 weeks pregnant now with a baby girl Smile

Praying it works out for you op.

Komnu · 12/04/2015 13:34

Hi Kitten and 5hell, so sorry to hear about your situations. I am in the exact same position, six weeks today and started bleeding on Wednesday. I personally am not feeling too hopeful as it has got heavier and there has also been light cramping for two days, but reading some of these stories has made me feel there may, just may, be a glimmer of hope at our scan on Friday. Fingers crossed for you all x

Becca2967 · 12/04/2015 13:46

I have two little boys and with my oldest Now six I had a small pink bleed at 6weeks the pregnancy carried on. Unfortunately I have had the heartbreak of four miscarriages three of which between my son's and one right now just before I shouldve been 8weeks :-( this one started as a thrreatend miscarriage I had Very light on and off spotting started at 7weeks I booked a private scan but couldnt get in to 7+5 and I was told the pregnancy had failed the day after (9th April) I started to bleed. Remember around half of women that bleed go onto have a healthy baby like I did with my oldest unfortunately sometimes like we're going through now it isn't alwsys good. :-(

schokolade · 12/04/2015 15:56

I had a two day, bright red bleed at 14 weeks. All fine, no cause found, possibly a piece of placenta too close to cervix.

Sorry for your stress, it's so horrible waiting. Best of luck x
