I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Firethorn · 28/03/2015 20:58

What happens when you turn up at A&E unable to stop vomiting?

I've been vomiting all day and most of yesterday, apart from a brief period this morning when I fell asleep. I can't keep much fluid down, starting to feel dehydrated and urine is now positive for ketones. Regardless of what I try and force down, it comes back up within minutes and then I vomit bile instead or dry-retch.

I'm tempted to go to A&E and see if they'll prescribe Ordansetron as no other meds have worked. Do you think I should wait a bit longer and see if it improves? I've had this before and it improved naturally after 24-hours.

How long did you have to wait in A&E? The thought of retching into bowl in public waiting room for hours is horrendous especially as its Sat eve and will be busy.

elizabethsmum · 28/03/2015 21:57

firethorn poor you- the times i've been admitted via a&e i have been referred there by emergency Dr and also advised to go there one time by what used to be nhs direct. might be worth ringing the nhs number first (sorry can't remember offhand what it is), as they can refer you to out-of-hrs go first- to at least save some of the wait in a&e. how many + of ketones are showing??- i've been admitted on 3+ and 4+ but robbed off when it was 2+. (just trying to gauge whether it is best for you to go tonight or if k eytones are lower to sit tight as such at home until early morning and try and get a bit of rest - which you will not get in hospital ) with a view to going first thing in the morning- always fairly quiet first thing on a Sunday morning especially as clocks going forward so one he less to wait xx

elizabethsmum · 28/03/2015 21:57

out of hrs gp*

elizabethsmum · 28/03/2015 21:58

fobbed off* bloody new phone!!

MeerkaRIPSirTerry · 28/03/2015 22:07

fire agree with eliz'smum about ringing up. If you do leave it til tomorrow keep a close eye on the ketones

blueberry ... very best of luck for tomrrow!

muddylettuce · 28/03/2015 22:21

I'm 32 weeks now or am I 33? Sigh. Around that anyway! Feeling much better this evening thanks ladies just tired. Firethorn I hope you're ok and managing to keep something down. If less than 3+ perhaps try and keep some fluids down at home and see where you are in the morning. I agree that A&E on a Saturday night would probably be horrendous. If 3+ or more it's a difficult decision. Try calling non emergency line 111. X

LucindaE · 29/03/2015 13:12

Goodness, what a horrible drama, Muddy. As you say, thank goodness you tested ketones and were taken seriously. What a shock, and how awful that things took such a sinister turn so quickly. So glad things have calmed down.
Firethorn How are things? Great advice from everyone. Unforunately, it sounds as if you will have been admitted this morning unless things got a lot better.
Hello Oh,no, you poor thing, I do so hope this is a temporary glitch.
Hope everyone isn't too bad.
Waves to lovely Meerka and elizabethsmum and everyone.

Thanks for advice and support everyone Flowers

I decided to stay home and see what happened, eventually fell asleep, woke up feeling much better. Keeping small amounts of liquid down now, plus Callipo ice-lollies.
I think my urinalysis strips must be less sensitive than yours, they only show positive for ketones if +5 or above. Was positive yesterday but negative today. Where do you get more sensitive ones?

Hellohellohowareyou · 29/03/2015 16:06

Vomiting in A&E is a sure fire way of clearing the people around you Smile. I was referred up to A&E by my GP and fast tracked in straight through triage and up to the gynae wars but that was on a quiet wed evening. Hope you got on ok Fire. I was so glad when they said they were going to admit me I cried, from past experience I just knew I needed to be on a drip x

elizabethsmum · 29/03/2015 16:45

was just checking on you firethorn glad you are a little better today. sorry not sure about sticks- just going on what hospital used- dh had some as he is a community nurse but they only showed presence of k eytones from memory?? Sorry no help there!!
impatiently awaits news from blueberry and waves to muddy, hello, trixy, eallison, meerka, lucinda and everyone xx

LucindaE · 29/03/2015 17:06

Firethorn You can get the famous kesostix from any chemists. Glad you are a tiny bit better.
Hello What amazes me is that when Tirxy had a private scan, they left her puking in bowls in the waiting room, but feeling so bad she didn't care any more. How are things today- I hope better than yesterday?
Waves to all.

Much better today thanks Lucinda so hopefully it was just a one off bad day. Vomiting in the morning is bad enough let alone it being all day again like before!
