I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi Lucinda, hope you don't mind me jumping in, but I've been meaning for months to come on and say thanks again for all the amazing support I got on this thread. DS is now 5 months old- and a delight! Hypermesis is a distant (horrible) memory and whilst I'm fine now I've found trying to come back to this lovely thread brings some of that horror back for me so i thought a quick message on a new thread might work! That said, the help I found here was my saviour and I'll be forever grateful!

Flowers to everyone who can tolerate the smell.

LucindaE · 05/02/2015 17:24

I think I actually got that one to come out, phew...

After a good start to the week, and managing to do two 4 hour shifts at work, I've had a terrible day today. Got sent home within 10 mins of getting work. Hoping that this one bad day doesn't make me too dehydrated. Don't fancy another hospital stay Sad

LucindaE · 05/02/2015 20:06

dilly Sorry to hear that - fingers crossed that you manage to stay out.
Those couple of good days are a very encouraging sign of more to come.
Hugs and congratulations on managing to do some days at work, though naturally Mother Hen thinks you're not ready yet...

Lottiedoubtie What a lovely message and thanks so much for coming back to the hall of rather evil memories! It's so nice to hear from recovered ex sufferers...
dilly as below...

Meerka · 06/02/2015 08:43

lottie how lovely to hear! are you getting any sleep at nights? (if you are, would you consider swapping babies?) .. ahem.

Oh dear dilly I hope you get a better day today. Don't be surprised if it takes a couple days to get over it.

blueberry sadly the nausea does come back pretty vilely sometimes later on :(

LucindaE · 06/02/2015 09:39

Meerka Hello there - sorry to hear baby is slleepless. Even after a long time I'll never forget how mine was, and the health visitor said it was my own fault (rather like the Hyperemesis). I'm glad you've managed to recover well despite that.
Hope BlueberryWafer and dilly are feeling a bit better today, and how is everyone?

OP posts:
dillydollydarling · 06/02/2015 11:12

Feeling a little better today but having another relaxed day. Unfortunately I can't afford to take any more time off really. I'm on a 0 hour contract at work so apparently they don't have to pay you SSP unless they want to. Which of course, they don't.

Hellohellohowareyou · 06/02/2015 12:49

Oooh new thread! I've finished work for the week now, four hours a day is definetly enough for me at the moment.

Still being sick every morning but I'm also starting to get a painful back, just on the right hand lower size. It hurts when I walk!

Hellohellohowareyou · 06/02/2015 12:49

*side not size

LucindaE · 06/02/2015 12:57

Hello and dilly I think anyone who manages to work with this deservesa medal. Zero hours conracts sound very srressful; is it like being a 'temp' where they don't have to guarnatee you certain hours?

OP posts:
dillydollydarling · 06/02/2015 13:39

Yeah it pretty much is. Means they can give as many or as little hours as they like. Some weeks I've had 3 shifts, other weeks I've had 5. They are usually pretty good at giving me 5 shifts a week unless its unusually quiet, in which case, everyone gets less work.

My boss is trying her best to accommodate me and is happy for me to do four half shifts a week rather than 5 full shifts. Its a struggle though. And I can't wait for this to be over and to have my baby here!

dillydollydarling · 06/02/2015 17:05

Ketones slowly starting to make an appearance again Sad luckily only trace so far. Desperately trying to drink enough fluid to get rid of them! So frustrating.

Hellohellohowareyou · 06/02/2015 18:00

Oh dilly I hated battling with the dreaded ketones : (

It's such a cliche but things will get better, I'm now 19 weeks and slowly starting to feel normal again and at least you are monitoring the ketones and you know where to get help if needed xx

BarmeeMarmee · 06/02/2015 18:20

Hi everyone, sorry to see there are still so many suffering and needing this thread. I'm a previous graduate of this thread (not sure whether Lucinda will remember me but I remember her invaluable support). I also use the infamous motto "this too shall pass" on a regular basis, still! Hope you all get some respite soon.

I thought I'd say hello as I'm sure im going to be needing your support again in the hopefully not too distant future-decision has been made to TTC DC3 and having had 2 previous HG pregnancies I'm not holding out much hope! Thankfully my GP has at least in principle agreed preemptive meds this time which is an improvement on before!

Anyway just wanted to (re)introduce myself... Hope you all get respite soon.

BlueberryWafer · 06/02/2015 18:42

Sorry for the delayed response, not been online since I sent my last post. I'm on ondansetron, cyclizine and sometimes metoclporomide (sp?) but nothing seems to be helping at the min. I also take an antacid regularly to prevent acid build up. Went to see the midwife today and she looked at me like I had two heads when I said I was still vomiting at 34 weeks and her response was "surely you can't still be being sick" yes, I am lying and actually I'm eating for 2 and having an amazing time... Silly midwife!

How is everyone else today?

Lottiedoubtie · 06/02/2015 23:21

lottie how lovely to hear! are you getting any sleep at nights? (if you are, would you consider swapping babies?) .. ahem.

Ha Meerka, I very definitely wasn't... But it is picking up now and he's slowly getting better. No swap though I'm afraid Wink

AuntieVenom · 07/02/2015 03:37

Hi everyone

I haven't been on the thread for a while as things seemed to settle.

Unfortunately as I've gone into the 3rd trimester HG has come back with a bang and I'm on 3 ondansetron per day.

The only good news is that I can now keep water down so I'm not getting ketones in my wee and my obstetrician isn't so worried about dehydration.

I've also been warned that it's likely that the HG will continue until I have the baby. Luckily I only have 9 weeks to go as I'm getting an elective c section at 39 weeks but boy does it drag you down.

LucindaE · 07/02/2015 11:25

BarmeeMarmee Of course, I emember you. Welcome back, you'e very brave. It'll be lovely to have you,but I hope you escape this time; it has been known o happen, after all.
dilly How are the ketones now? It's so wearisome, I so agree with hello's nice post.
BlueberryWafer I can't believe a midwife could be that ignorant; you'd think they'd be trained to look out for Hyperemesis as a condition not common but very possible. Angry
AuntieVenom You poor thing, I bet you can't wait; sorry you're one of those who has it make an unwelcome reappearance.
Lottiedoubtie and Meerka Grin.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked.

OP posts:
dillydollydarling · 07/02/2015 13:12

Not sure how ketones are now, forgot to check this morning. Went into work and got sent home after an hour Sad this hyperemesis malarky really wears you down doesn't it?! Just want to enjoy being pregnant but its impossible at the moment!

BlueberryWafer · 07/02/2015 17:25

AuntieVenom sorry to hear your HG has made a return in your 3rd tri, but at least the end is in sight. I know it's hard to think like that but we have to. I'm almost 35 weeks and still vomiting so not feeling hopeful it will disappear anytime soon. I was sick til the moment I gave birth to ds, but it vanished as soon as I'd had him so at least I know the end is in sight. Did you find out if you're having a boy or girl? Is this your first baby? Apologies if you've already said all this further back, I haven't been active on here for a while.

Nice to be back in the arms of support - was struggling again a bit on my own. It's tough to explain HG to someone whose never suffered, and even harder to someone who has been a little but sick and think that's all you've got so obviously think you're just being soft (I get this a lot).

dillydollydarling · 07/02/2015 17:32

Bugger. Ketones rising Sad and I thought I was doing well with drinking. I've also managed to eat a full portion of pasta sauce this afternoon. Clearly not doing as well as I thought.

LucindaE · 07/02/2015 17:38

dilly The best of luck with the ketone struggle. Can you stand ice lollies?
Waves to all. BlueberrySlice and AuntieVenom It's really dismal for those who suffer throughout, and you can do without midwives being incredulous...

OP posts:
Meerka · 07/02/2015 23:01

dilly it really does wear you down :( Please take it as easy as you can. Not only for now but to keep in as good a condition as possible for the long haul.

Hello auntie and blueberry .... sorry to hear it's come back that strongly for you both. Glad that you have at least got good meds. You've been unlucky :( I'm sure the current generation of midwives don't have much idea of HG. Suspect that now Kate's had it twice it'll make rather more of an appearance in the training, maybe along with that awful itching. Good for the future, but frustrating for now ..

AuntieVenom · 08/02/2015 09:34

Thanks Lucinda it came as a huge shock when it came back. I honestly thought it was all going to be over.
BlueberryWafer I'm having a boy and it's my first and definitely only baby! I have so much admiration for all of you who have gone through this more than once. There's no way I could do this again.
Meerka my mum suffered HG in both her pregnancies and was basically told to get on with it. She ended up spending weeks in hospital getting rehydrated and that was in the UK in the 70s. Shame it doesn't seem like much has changed.
I really hope that the profile of HG is raised and more is done to treat women who suffer. I hate reading on this thread how terribly people are being treated. I'm not in the UK and I have to be honest and say the level of care & treatment I've received has been amazing. The obstetrician knew exactly what I was talking about and I got ondansetron from 11 weeks after they tried other meds first and they didn't work.
