just found out I'm having identical girls but....

I'm only almost 19 weeks. I go for fortnightly scans and the lady doing my scan told me not to start buying colours until it's confirmed at my 20 week scan but both bladders were seen and she couldn't in her words "see any boys bits" I'm dying to start buying pink as I've always wanted girls. Would you? Or is it too soon?

Yes I understand what they are saying but I am an impulsive type and would feel exactly the same.

When I was told DS was a boy at 19 weeks I rushed out and bought some dungarees and t shirts, I was a midwife at the time so should absolutely have known better but I couldn't help myself .

Why not go out and buy ONE thing for each of them and keep the receipt so you can change them if you get different results next time x

I should add that DS is 12 now so the scans were less reliable then. I suspect that if they think you've got two girls then you probably have,

Yeah what grateful said! Go out and buy one thing each and keep the receipt just in case.

I went for a gender scan at 16 weeks and was told 80% a boy, but asked to come back the week after to confirm. We went back and were told a girl! Every scan since has been a girl. But we had bought a couple of boy things, first pair of trainers etc but it was easy enough to take them back and return them.

I would not. I know people who have been told their twins were girls. They bought everything in pink, loads of dresses and thought of 2 nice names. You can imagine the shock when they had 2 boys.

No, I wouldn't yet! At my sister's 20-week scan they "couldn't see any boy bits" so we were all prepared for a little girl. My nephew was a bit of a surprise! However, I guess there's more chance if they are identical (and therefore the same sex) that if they didn't see anything boy about either of them then you are probably more likely to be getting pink than my sister? .

I wouldn't buy exclusively pink no. I don't like pink the best. I just bought clothes I liked in whatever colour. I don't buy into this colour coding children business so am not the best person to answer! My son is currently wearing pink trousers btw. It is his favourite colour.

But if you do want everything pink then nobody can guarantee they are girls. Either buy frilly pink things and keep the receipts or buy neutral stuff or dress the babies in pink even if they have a penis.

Congratulations, I would go and buy something slightly pink, you can always take it back or just dress your boys in it anyway .

It's only another week! Why not window shop / browse and make lists of things you like, and then you can go and buy after the scan.
I would try to contain yourself a bit because nothing is certain yet (or indeed till they actually arrive) and it would be a shame to build it all up and then adjust to one or even two boys, which is still possible.

BTW I'll be the person to point it out today - sorry to be pedantic but the scan looks for sex not gender. Gender is the identity they will take on in life so can't be known yet. Sex is purely biological.

Congratulations! I'm not a pink loving person but if you're excited and it's your thing just buy it anyway! Confused by the poster returning trainers as they are for boys though... who knew?!

Heed her words. .. a lady at my nct had a private gender scan before 20 weeks them never double checked.
Baby had hidden their winky and was definitely not a girl!

annoyedofnorwich, shall I go and collect my dd from school immediately do you think? She absolutely will wear trainers today and I would never forgive myself if anything untoward happened to her. They have spiderman on them too. Do I burn them or is that not enough? I know somebody who knows a priest who can offer an exorcism at short notice.

Yeah my poor DS had to wear pink in hospital.. I'd stick to neutral until you are sure.

I've bought pink! I've been out and bought a pink changing mat, a pack of 6 pink baby grows and bibs. I know pink isn't for everybody but until they're at an age where they say or act like don't like it, I definitely do and if they turn out to be boys I'm sure someone I know will end up having a girl and I would definitely not put boys in pink grows.

My cousin was told at the gender scan her baby was a girl. Nope. When he came out her was definitely male.

Worst thing was - someone have her a load of baby stuff but when she "found out" it was a girl she have all the blue bits and bobs away !!

Can I ask why you wouldn't put a boy in a pink babygro? What is the worst that can happen? I don't mean dress a boy in head to toe pink as a point about stereotyping and subverting it, but as part of a spectrum of colours, why would you 'definitely' avoid it? DS left the hospital in a pink and green babygro and coral cardigan iirc. The babygro I'd bought especially for him knowing he was a boy, not even a hand me down from his big sister.

I had a ds after a dd and he just wore whatever his sister wore and some of it was 'girls stuff' I suppose. He's older now and has an opinion and given a choice, he would wear pink, pink and more pink with the odd bit of yellow and orange.

Just buy some neutral stuff? We not found out the sex & I've managed to get lots of cute neutral things mostly from M&S Boots & H&m
