I'm only almost 19 weeks. I go for fortnightly scans and the lady doing my scan told me not to start buying colours until it's confirmed at my 20 week scan but both bladders were seen and she couldn't in her words "see any boys bits" I'm dying to start buying pink as I've always wanted girls. Would you? Or is it too soon?

Nothing bad would happen if a baby boy wears pink. It's just my preference not to put a boy in pink babygrows different strokes for different folks a lot of people have commented saying they don't particularly like pink but I haven't asked what's wrong with it. Everyone is different. I'm sure a few people don't like Barbie but if my kids want one they will have one. I'm quite convinced it's girls and most things I've bought for the BABIES are neutral but I've bought a pink changing mat and pink bibs so I've not exactly gone ott on pinkness until I know for sure I'm not gonna buy too many colourful things but I don't see the big deal on one or two things.

Oh no big deal at all. Smile I was just genuinely interested. I think I'm old and fed up with washing. So whatever was cleanest and nearest quickly became the motto. Particularly with dc2.

My very good friend has never, ever dressed her dd in trousers. The girl is 9 now and she wears dresses or skirts. And not just any old dresses and skirts, exceedingly fancy, frilly, pretty dresses and skirts.

You're absolutely right, different strokes for different folks. I don't think any parent can say they didn't consciously or unconsciously affect their dc's clothing choices as they got bigger. My dd has just schlepped off to the school disco (she is 7) and she is wearing Doc Marten's, a tie dye dress and a rainbow cardigan. I probably have the same outfit in adult sizes.

I was just interested as to why you were categorically decided against any pink for a ds should you ever have one. Interestingly, during Victorian times pink was never worn by girls and only by boys. My fabulous Great Grandma was born in 1889 and she used to tell me how very strange she found it girls dressing in pink. Funny how times change, eh?

Best of luck for your next scan and for a continued healthy pregnancy.

White and cream aren't so practical, as stains don't always come out of them. Poo stains show up particularly nicely, ask me how I know this.

Rebecca1608 · 04/02/2015 19:17

Thankyou, can't wait to have them here now.

I've thought about the poo situations lol and although most grows are cream/white. I have a few yellows in there, if it's too bad to be washed, I'll throw them.

Of course, the stuff you like the best is the stuff that will get the poo stains that won't come out. Later on, it will be food stains, then markers, paint, and the like.

Are you planning to dress them in matching outfits? I wouldn't do that every day, but if I had identical twin girls I'd be so tempted to do it at least for some pictures.

Rebecca1608 · 05/02/2015 05:50

I'm definitely going to dress them the same, like you said probably not every day and definitely not as they get older but they will have some outfits the same.

When I found out I was having my son, now 6, I went mad and bought loads of boys clothes, Same when I found out I was having my little girl, pink crazy, because I wanted too, not because I thought it might affect her if she wore blue or green. I personally wouldn't dress a boy in pink either, just not my thing.
Go enjoy it op. Keep the receipt x
Baby number 3 is baking, surprise this time x

Rebecca1608 · 05/02/2015 16:20

I have bought a couple of other pink things today too "daddy's little princess" haha. They will definitely have to go back if things change. I just can't help myself. I have kept my receipts too. You'll have a nice surprise aswell and you've got one of each lovely. X

I didn't buy a lot of baby clothes in advance, even though I found out the sex at my CVS fairly early in the pregnancy. There are a couple of reasons:

  1. You don't know what size the baby will be. Even a doctor or midwife's estimate late in pregnancy can be way off. Not all babies start out in newborn-sized clothes. You generally do *not want to stock up on anything for your baby until you've tried it out and found it works for you and your baby. This is true of diapers, clothes, and all sorts of stuff for babies. That said, twins are not likely to be huge at birth.
  1. I'm a procrastinator. I had an excuse to put off shopping for baby clothes, so I did.
Rebecca1608 · 05/02/2015 17:53

It's hard not to buy when you've got two to buy for. I won't have time to get a rush on last minute buying everything and find buying as I go along helps me a great deal. I have nappies, some clothes- VARIOUS SIZES, bottles, wipes etc. Myself and my partner work full time and are also currently trying to decorate our new house. So every little helps in our case.

I have had it comfirmed by three different sonographers that I am having a girl. All said "Definitely no boy bits" and showed me the 'three lines'.
Still people doubt it and keep telling me stories of people 'they know' who were told they were having a girl and it was a boy and saying that being told it is a girl, gives a bigger chance of being wrong than being told it is a boy.
Funnily enough, I have never come across these people who was told they were having a girl and it was a boy?!?!?

Rebecca1608 · 06/02/2015 11:15

A lot of people have said the same thing to me. I've got a couple of pink things kept receipts so I can take them back but if it's confirmed at my actual 20week scan I'm just going to take it as I'm definitely having girls.
