Why can't I stop eating junk?

I have got a kitchen full of healthy options, yet came home at lunch today and had two packets of crisps and two iced buns! Then I wonder why I've felt like absolute s**t all day! It's not unusual either, I think it's been going on for weeks now. I don't think it's any kind of craving, I think it's me feeling tired and emotional and thinking 'I'll eat what I damn well like'! Then after I've stuffed myself with rubbish I feel lethargic, a bit sick and incredibly guilty that I'm not giving my baby a healthy diet. I'm six and a half months gone and I know that a good diet is essential now but I can't stop eating all the wrong things. I must be so selfish. What the hell is the matter with me?

thats just wrong, is like throwing a egg cup of water on a raging fire, men don't get it.

lazyemma - chips, peas and gravy - my fave!

jojo76 - sent my DH for a bar of chocolate, he came back with bloody cooking chocolate, I nearly cried.

I knew I was pregnant really early on as I was craving fish and chips and pizza like I did with ds1. Today I had eaten 2 packs of crisps by 12 o'clock. I don't even normally like junk food! I have found it is one of the few things that stops me feeling sick! Veggies especially smell so bad.

gegs73 · 13/10/2006 18:31

chips peas and gravy yum

LittleJem · 13/10/2006 18:32

Its the best! I've started ordering it in cafe's!

gegs73 · 13/10/2006 18:40

Haha are you up North though? I'm originally from the North living in London and no-one down here seems to get the chips and gravy thing. I have to make it myself

I am 6 months preg and I have been doing exactly the same. Eating crap and then feeling rubbish.

I have started making sure that I am drinking enough water as it is pretty easy and I can pat myself on the back for that at least. Also trying to have my 5 a day with all the crap and can do more patting on the back! Just make sure that you have a glass of orange juice for breakfast, some fruit or veg with lunch and dinner then you are eating the crap with the good, which should mean less guilt.

Last night I had a large Big Mac meal and a mcflurry, followed by a whole box of choc I was given for my birthday (DH had afew too!!).

I figure that the important thing is for me to be chilled about it all and just not worry as this is better for the baby that religiously sticking to a healthy diet that makes me feel miserable. In my last preg I ate tons of chocolate esp in the evening and someone told me afterwards that it can make the baby more chilled when newborn due to all the feel good hormones that it releases when you eat it!

I would not worry and just make sure that what ever you have, you enjoy it.

BTW I think that stuff about what you eat when preg means that is what your baby eats is total crap IMO. I ate the same pretty rubbish diet last time, but now my DS eats a really healthy diet as even though I am crap with myself, for him I am really good. He eats loads of fruit and veg and no crap so I just ignore that. Just more studies to make us feel guilty!!
